Osgiliath was nothing but filler and could have been removed completely from RotK without negatively impacting the film

I suppose, but it gave something for Gondor to do in the first half, and a reason to delay siege of Minas Tirith. Also the scenes in that place were very well done, in a different way than Minas Tirith. Without it, the impending doom/despair of gondorians before the battle of Pelenor would be lessened. Osgiliath is an important city, its the old capital and economic hub by its place on the Anduin. This make the resistance at Minas Tirith even more hopeless, because this isn't their first defeat, and even if they win, they are still in shit.
That's true for the movies as for the books.
It developed contrast for Faramir and Boromir. I mean, if you argue like that then most of the movie could've been cut. Many scenes are only for building character
dude....no
Your life is nothing but filler and could have been completely removed from reality without negatively impacting the earth.
It explains why Mordor didn't just siege Mina's Tirith years ago. It was where Gondor had been holding off the orcs for years. Also made for an extremely tense scene when the orcs were trying to be stealthy on their boats.
>FASTER
Haven't watched theatrical in years, but I thought it was removed, wasn't it?
Yeah, the scene where Faramir realizes the city is lost and calls the retreat was pretty tense too.
Isn't it only in the extended edition?
and thats a good thing
You dick. Good men died at Osgiliath.
I figured he was talking about the entire Osgiliath story line.
>Faramir's aid, whose name I can't remember for the life of me but still liked, died
That bummed me out. Haldir's death also bummed me out. Pretty cool how they can give characters so little screen time and still make you feel bad when they die.
>show gondor's dire situation to set up pelennor
>expose faramir's and stuart's characters
>provide a dozen memorable scenes
>removing wouldn't be detrimental
why is this retard allowed to speak
>Talks about RotK
>Shows screenshot from T2T extended edition
While it's never that directly important to our main characters in the film or book, it is very important in the world of Middle Earth.
At one time, it was the capitol city of Gondor, and had a palantir that was so large it took several men to move it, and it was eventually lost in the depths of the river Anduin.
We're not discussing the books and lore mate but I agree it's an important part of the movie for character development and plot.
Also, off by one
Well someone had to say it
Without it there is not a single thing in the entire franchise to suggest the orcs are an actual danger to men. Almost every other combat is done between the Fellowship who loses only due to their small numbers, or an overall victory. This is the first actual battle where we see the men losing.
good point. there's also the raiding uruk-hai in rohan tho
Roastie logic: the post
>Pretty cool how they can give characters so little screen time and still make you feel bad when they die
That's what great filmmaking is.
