Here's what Jonah should have done: just laugh it off. By engaging with her and trying to throw another comback at her, it just validates her actions and behavior. She's on her home turf and quite frankly has nothing to lose, and no matter what Jonah says he cannot win. So, he shouldn't say anything at all. He should just laugh at her. In doing so it disarms her by showing he's not threaten by her nor that he's taking it seriously; he knows she's just joking and that he has a sense of humor about himself, but more importantly it shows that whatever she can say or do is so far below him that there's no way he can let it get to him, as he's bigger than to fall into some schoolyard name-calling war. If she won't let up and continues to throw insults at him, he just continues to laugh. In that situation she looks like she's desperately trying to claw away at his ego without leaving a scratch.

That's the dullest joke in the history of french insults. Seriously each one of the insults directed to me has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from being food- centric, your insults' only consistency has been their lack of originality and focus on food, all to make it seem like being fat is bad, to make french humor seem unfunny.
Perhaps the die was cast when this channel vetoed the idea of someone talented being in charge of this interview; They made sure it would never be mistaken for something actually worthwile to anyone, just ridiculously profitable self promotion for their weather show. This interview might be anti-American (or not), but it is certainly anti- humor in its refusal of good. well thought out jokes and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

As I listened, I noticed that every time Ornella wanted to insult me with something related to food, she would say instead that I would go to Subway.
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Fleury's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of insulting. Later I read a lavish, loving review of the interview by the same Christopher Nolan. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are watching these french interviews at the age of 18-20, then when they get older they will go on to browse Sup Forums." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you watch french interviews you are, in fact, trained to browse Sup Forums.
