checked and kekd
There is still hope.
underrated
because buildings created in America are designed for efficiency, it's easier to prop up four concrete slabs than it is to carve out intricate marble statues for each window ledge.
Architects aren't going to build beauties they have in Venice unless they have a significant financial reason to do so.
>the way the sun hits the houses
such a beautiful picture. I wonder what it would be like to live in Vienna?
Doesn't that city smell like shit?
tl;dr shit urban planning because no regulations
These magnificent structures were erected back when architects worked for the good of humanity and culture rather than businesses. Now the cheaper and quicker something is made, the quicker something can be bought and sold, the better.
All art has crumbled after Adolf Loos and modernism reared their ugly heads, decrying that beauty is not an ideal worth striving for. Now our surroundings are as soulless as (((modernists))) themselves.
>I wonder what it would be like to live in Vienna?
You mean Venice?
Venice is unlivable becasue of all the tourists.
The center of Amsterdam is facing a similar situation, but fortunately our local government is stepping in to reduce tourism.
Not really?
Isn't Venice collapsing because the wood is so old?
>our local government is stepping in to reduce tourism.
what kind of retardation is that?
>I wonder what it would be like to live in Vienna?
almost nobody lives there except for some old people and students
>it's retarded to put the interest of your own citizens above the interest of foreigners
>Swecuck detected.
>making money is bad
there is a very strong smell when you go to the edges, but the majority of it and the edge near san marco square doesn't no. Its a great place to go tbhfam and cheap af if you avoid the tourist routes
Yes and no one actually lives there anymore as its too expensive to keep the building afloat.
There are better ways of making money.
Ways that don't force locals to flee from their own city.
Because your profit hungry oligarchs demolished all the cool buildings in the name of progress and your government didn't do shit to save at least the iconic ones.
I'm surprised the White House and the Capitol still stands.
modern construction are antithetical to aesthetics
america is a very young country so they don't even have any old shit to look at and say "golly this looks great lets keep it around"
and before you attack me for my nationality I think a lot of sweden looks like absolute unrepentant soulless garbage as well
>making money at the expense of everything that makes your country special being spoiled
Cant say Im surprised Sven
I've been to Venice
Smells like an open sewer
I've been to America
You are open sewers - shart in mart
We wanted to be more Roman than European
Architecture thread?

i hate this video, who the fuck wants their neighbor to watch them eat dinner
Come and see:

How long your streets been fucked up?
if you had, you'd know that only the perimeter parts do
"ugly"?
>no Casa Poporului
The Eternal Mongol strikes again
it's not ugly
If you have ever been to Venice, it's a dirty fucking shit hole
those old houses will be torn down soon enough though ;^(
nobody makes money on making public things look good. only happens in (((america))) if someone can make a dime. the only beautifying projects just seem to go to degenerate ''modern art'' thats bc pomo ideology is being pushed by those that fund ''art''.
this is where I live...
Muricans just want cheap cardboard and wooden houses..
>tfw this is one of the newest buildings in my city
Peles castle is beautiful, but your Parliament is not.
The details of the facade completely disappear, because of the building's megalomaniac size, The lack of towers or domes, make it look like a commiebox from afar. The flat rooftop completely fucks up the building.
The interior is really amazing, but the exterior is just meh.
>Implying I didn't include your Parliament building because I'm Hungarian
The eternal gipsy strikes again
it´s full of niggers. Picture related
Modernity has ruined everything good and worthy of preservation
...
Yes, it's ugly. Your cities were beautiful, but post-WWII architects fucked them up. The modernist craps are ruining the skyline while the public transport is rotting away, not to mention the extensive suburbanization. Architecture showed a huge variety, but then it became monotone and plain. Historic buildings are not preserved, which only makes the cities' charm fad faster.
nt
We have our own way of doing things and that's fine.
Better than Yurp crap.
and i thought they smelled bad..... on the outside.
>we
And probably because we are a much younger country there weren't ancient monuments and edifices that had been there for 1,000 years.
It's easier to justify tearing down a 150yo brick building to replace it with a concrete box than it would be an 800yo marble one with elaborate architecture
Problem with skyscrapers is, they only look good from afar. I bet streetview down there looks like shit.
>Americans find this beautiful
kek
I went to visit in 2013. Nothing but tourists and carts that sell meme t-shirts and keychains.
fpbp
Underrated as fuck
I'm taking over dc.
Fuck that shit. Here's where I went to catch some cutthroat.
Because most of our cities were founded in the 17-20th century.
i blame the modernist liberals who blood nyc now
My county has been occupied by Europeans since the 1660's but there was a kind of frontier style you might have found in towns out west.
There are some beautiful old (but fairly plain, being Methodists) churches going back to the 1700's
nowhere else looks like this. most beautiful city in the world by a large margin.
FPBP
This is accurate. There are plenty of beautiful historic small towns scattered throughout the country. Architectural beauty survived there.
The oldest building hereabouts is a plain brick building on land patented in the 1660's
Americans don't care about aesthetics and culture in general. You can encounter claims that protestant countries don't really care about non-utilitarian things. That's not entirely true because Germany has great novelists and composers. Americans and English have only good novelists, so I think it might have to do with the anglo version of protestant culture. English architecture is obnoxious just like american
The root of the problem is city planning. us cities doesn't have a traditional, homogeneous core town, because the buildings doesn't even have a chance to stand for 150 years, since the wealthy fucks want to build their cheap, modernist shit as close to the city center as possible.
well, we tried flooding new orleans. that didn't work out too well
Fuck venice, I payed 23 euro for 3 hours of parking in that fucking city last month. Not to mention that i was is half hour cue to take it there, and was forced to leave car in the middle of parking lot with keys inside car because they have not space in this fucking bulding, but still takes cars.. Fuck that city, and saint mark sqare is overated!
>while the public transport is rotting away
How is this a bad thing?
english architecture is crystallized despair
What years are these?
Some time around 1900, I believe
>livable city with good public transport network (trams, trolleys, metro, buses, train, suburban railway)
>cities built for cars, the only public transport is a rotting subway system.
Choose one.
We need to HANG József Finta!
JUST
comfy
because american cities are usually built on......land......
Most American streets have functioning storm drains.
What's this store sell?
I'd rather not rely on public transportation so I'll take the city built for cars.
If there is a happening good luck going anywhere with your public transport.
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
He made a bigger mess in Budapest than WWII.
If there's a happening you can always take an alternative route. That's the beauty of a GOOD public transport system
Only problem was the gators
>GOOD public transport system
Doesn't exist
Lol yup
philly is a shit hole kys
Pieces of shit
POS
>tfw you will never live in comfy Neo Venezia
Why even live?
DID YOU KNOW?
In 1939 Goebbels visited Venice. He later wrote in his journal about the clear inferiority of German architectural achievement. It persuaded him to fasttrack building programs under the Reich.
OP: I personally like the 1600-1700s English and early colonial styles. I also like the zany mid Victorian period stuff. Give me that or Germanic castles over Med stuff any day.
It would be too perfect. And it can't be sold.
It will never fucking happen basically. Culture is a thing to box and sell, and/or become more inclusive about (destroying it).
Go fuck yourself. Philly is the second best city in the US after Charm City AKA Baltimore
You haven't lived the real city life until you've lived in an urban row-house.
10/10 image+bantz post
>most aesthetic skyline in the world
>Euro fags and suburban trash pass out from the sheer grittiness
because you were founded after the renaissance i guess
>posts sinking city
>why don't you want this america?
I prefer cities not at the bottom of the ocean but Im weird like that
Didn't that area fill up with killer goo and impale somebody in 9 directions during the last rebellion?
jesus what an abomination
what a shame...
i also prefer cities that don't smell like piss
but hey, i'm just different
