Did you watch the ninth gate with jonny depp?
I like angel heart but ninth gate really is better.
Aside from these there aren't many satanism themed supernatural neo noir movies unfortunately.
nice trips
Can't help you much here OP, Angel Heart is in a league of it's own. A great singular and unique movie. There is no movie quite like it honestly.
Yes but it has been years since i have seen it may have to give it a rewatch
Honestly I'm also craving movies like this but there aren't many.
If you like lovecraftian shit watch in the mout of madness and dagon.
If you don't mind old movies there are some old satanic horror movies which have a bit of the same noir feeling, check out the city of the dead with based young saruman.
It doesn't necessarily have to have satanic themes i just want more dark and gruesome noirs with a likeable lead actor but thanks for the suggestions
jacob's ladder?
Memento in terms of a main character suffering memory loss and discovering their true nature. Nolan has stated Angel Heart was an inspiration
>nothing quite like a noir that deals with the supernatural
The devil and selling your soul are age-old motifs.
But there aren't many noir like movies about it generally movies about these themes are horror movies which throw out the mystery pretty quickly.
Not nearly as good, but Sea of Love is the same style and feel and was probably made specifically because of the interest Angel Heart produced regarding 'gritty New Orleans' tales.
Bonus: the opening to Sea of Love is referenced in the script 'bible' Save the Cat as how to open the narrative of a film.
Lord of Illusions
>Not nearly as good, but Sea of Love is the same style and feel and was probably made specifically because of the interest Angel Heart produced regarding 'gritty New Orleans' tales.
Sea of Love is set entirely in NYC...
I remember it being set in NO, but I was wrong - that said, my point stands. Gritty, noir, etc.
Or just watch True Detective S1, which explores the same territory.
Wolfen (1981)
Cure (1997), and a lot of other Kiyoshi Kurosawa movies about detectives and shit
Kill List (2011)
There are a lot of classic noir/detective/crime movies that skirt the line of horror but eehhh nobody on Sup Forums's gonna watch those
Already have multiple times
Rosemary's Baby the original.
this
>ninth gate
fuck I love this movie
Not OP but which movies do you mean, I've watched quite a few classical film noir and most were thriller mysteries at most not really horror.
Also I think there are a few anons here who watch them as we used to have noir threads from time to time.
>the ninth gate was the debil's pusy
omg
Its one of my favourite movies desu.
The comfy scenes, jonny depp playing a cynical detective like figure, the mystery its all great.
Blade Runner 2049
I think she was the whore of babylon user which makes depp's character the beast she 'rode'.
Vaguely related in that it's about an investigation into religious subject matter. Sorry, I can't really think of anything else that wasn't mentioned.
in the book she's a fallen angel but in the movie it's ambiguous, she could be Satan, or a demon, or the whore of babylon and/or just some witch who worships the devil
either way Corso is one lucky sonovabitch
Kinda?
The actress who plays her is fucking hot too.
Though I wonder what a man would do in hell after passing through the gate.
it's the ultimate wish fulfillment movie, I want to be Dean Corso so bad
>tfw you will never be a book detective who has been chosen by Satan to become his right hand man in the Kingdom of Hell
become an immortal demon prince who hangs out with Lucifer drinking fine brandy and banging hot succubi
or maybe Satan just really needed a librarian for his vast book collection, idn
The Ninth Gate
Fallen
Constantine
The Devil's Advocate
are the obvious ones
I remember her being Satan in the book?
Dylan Dog is pretty shit the comics are great thought
It is yeah. Really fucking bad adaptation.
Jacob's Ladder is in a similar vein. Constantine.
no, she's a fallen angel that has been wandering the Earth for thousands of years or some shit
The Ninth Gate is my lover. So good.
It's been a while since I read the book.
>The Ninth Gate is my lover
what did he mean by this?
"The Tenant"
"The Vanishing" (1988)
"Jacob's Ladder"
"Lost Highway"
"Cure"
"The Ninth Gate"
"Rabbits" (the David Lynch web series)
"Suicide Club" + "Noriko's Dinner Table"
"Kill List"
"The Devil's Business"
"Toad Road"
"The Wailing"
"The Killing of a Sacred Deer"
>unironically
Another one
Fallen
Polanski's Venus in Fur has actually similar sinister feel to it as Ninth Gate, features the same actress, and has a supernatural twist with the Satan
You know, it is nice to come across fellow admirers of this Polanski masterpiece. May you have sweet karma until your end of days.
dark city
Thanks for the tips. Never heard of 2 and 4 and they look promising.
One of my favorite movies
Ahh. How about "Blue Velvet". Delicious.
Favorite Lynch movie recently rewatched it for the new twin peaks season
