I thought new york was as bunch of islands
I don't know what's worse, californians that can't make a movie not take place in california, or what happens when californians try to imagine what it's like outside of california.
and it's still got so much untapped potential. So much more kino potential in all of its different cities. If anything we need more ambitious calikino
I haven't seen a single movie set in LA that captures what it's like to live in the area. Maybe that one movie set in the Valley that I forgot. Can't even remember the actors.
Ah ok. I was going to say some cliched hipster loft in Manhattan
boogie nights? magnolia?
Seems like hollywood knows exactly where they're audience goes to.
I don't live in LA. But I live in San Diego and been to LA a couple times.
La La Land unironically gave me intense southern California feels. Maybe a little idealized, but not much.
I really wish I could remember anything about it. It's driving me insane but I remember liking it. It was a dramedy and the made guy jumped of a bridge at the end. It had some weird lesbian subplot with the main character's mom.
It seemed like Reseda/Northridge: the movie
"New York City"
I wish there were glendale/burbank vibes I could find somewhere. They're pretty good at nailing south central though that's hard to fuck up. It still has that 90s vibe
what's the burbank vibe? going offroading on the 5, the freeway that is forever under construction?
>We need a location for the alien planet
>Already booked the tickets, sir
>we need a cit--
>the crew is already there, sir
Falling Down?
>mfw canadian
>mfw watching rumble in the bronx
at least use or something
Not enough movies set in Houston desu
I haven't seen it but what about Tangerine? I've read people saying that The Florida Project felt fairly authentic and the guy who did that directed Tangerine.
Century City is lame
AY IM WALKING HERE
>Brian Markinson and Hiro Kanagawa are already on set
Why does Vancouver have so many skyscrapers? It’s like half the size of LA but has a larger skyline
its boring an has no culture
why does Vancouver have so many stairs that are so good at acting?
oil
space
hispanics
medical field
engineers
fucking texas history
>film/tv show takes place in a specific town/city in the midwest or east coast
>FILMED IN CALIFORNIA
I want more movies set in Las Vegas that don't even go near the strip.
>implying Chicago, Milwaukee and Des Moines don't have mountain ranges and palm trees
It has a dense downtown with a mix of residential, retail, and office skyscrapers. The rest of the city is mostly not so dense.
Joel Osteen
drug smugglers
hurricanes
rodeo
football(mums for homecoming)
food
>tex-mex
>real panasian-Jap,Korean,Viet,Philipino, Thai etc
>real panhispanic-papusas, tortas etc
>real german food
blogpost-half of my professors are retired engineers that worked for or closely with NASA
Too hot and humid
Too much pollen and ozone
Too much chemical plants and pollution
Everyone would die from heat stroke and allergies
Also Texas doesn't give tax breaks to hollywood faggots for shooting their homoerotic films in their state, IIRC.
>we need a mansion
Jackie Brown captured the southland pretty well
alot of tv series that take place in upper midwest turn out to be filmed in Calgary for some fucking reason
>Show Downtown LA
>Location of movie never takes place there.
Every.Fucking.Time
Collateral
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
La La Land (captures it well but is slightly exaggerated)
those fucking rocks an hour out of LA.
i've seen them in like 400 different movies
Try being in the bay area. Every goddamn movie here is either james franco faggotry, "im a nigga in oakland", DAE LE STARTUPS, or SF IS HIPPIE LOL.
And the Bay area, as it exists to hollywood, is SF, Oakland, and Palo Alto. NOTHING ELSE. Christ, most movies don't even show Sutro Tower, when you can see it from anywhere in the fucking city
...
because chinks
yeah but the bay area is for gays. You cant even really do gangsta there
Isn't russia/moscow technically cliche, because of the tax discount?
?
I thought it was for kaiju attacks and JJ Abrams throwing spaceships at.
Every movie ever is filmed in Vancouver.
>Vancouver never plays itself
what aboot Continuum eh?
i will miss u my fascist future cop waifu
ITT: Assblasted Flyovers
This is one of the best thrillers I've seen and it takes place in off-Strip Las Vegas.
Don't forget "Alaska"
pretty pretty good
ugliest major city in north america, shame they suck off the film industry so hard that things still get made there
so played out
how many car chases took place here?
Wanna film a post apoc film or a scene in an industrial factory. Go to the Steel Mill in Fontana
it's only cliche because John Ford used it like 15 times and hacks influenced by him (Leone for instance) like to go there as "homage"
bay area does blow though. nerds are a fucking cultural vacuum
"race is skin deep" embryos btfo in one 15-second webm. shit looks god damn familiar
no space, there's mountains on 3 sides and an ocean on the 4th
>not the biltmore
I heard that you need to get special permits if you want to build a skyscraper that isn't glass asian shit because any recognizable landmark would make movies stop shooting there.
They are. There are no fucking decent bars here. Everything is either a fucking goddamned fratbro/hipster shithole with $10 beers and $15 cocktails (no, an old fashioned does not have orange juice), or some fucking hotel bar with investment-banker types in it.
Los Angeles is a legitimate shithole, everything there is unbelievably seedy and you don't feel safe a second when you're out. It's not surprising given the city is about 20% white these days
Even San Francisco is turning worse and worse. So many homeless just wandering about now
>that Stargate episode where they were trying to bargain for the space lasers
kino
so you give black people civilisation and they still act like tribal savages lmfao
THERE IS A TWISTER IS LA
I REPEAT
A TWISTER
IN DOWNTOWN LA
All of them
>we need a castle
>say no more
>everything there is unbelievably seedy and you don't feel safe a second when you're out
lol, LA is fine if you don't go south of downtown. i liked it more than any other west coast city. sure it's full of whores and junkies and other filth and decadence but just get in the mindset of laughing at it and you'll enjoy yourself and find the beauty in it. i did anyway. always something interesting going on, similar to NYC. only spread over like 20 times the area and less convenient in general. also i vastly prefer NY jews to LA ones, the latter are way up their own asses, NY ones are self aware
there's no "beauty" in it. It's a complete fucking dump full of the scummiest and most fake people imagineable, and the only liveable areas are ridiculously expensive at which point you're better off living somewhere else anyway
Aren't Mexicans much better than blacks? I read they are pushing the blacks away, and that crime is actually on the downfall.
>reminding me of Rachel Nichols
do you know what youve done?!
that one is fine desu.Bethesda terrace is the cliche
the filth has to go somewhere man. i found it to be more honestly mercenary and less pretentious than any of the other major west coast cities. haven't been to san diego though, full disclosure. and didn't say i'd live there. just enjoyed visiting
you mean every movie that ever took place in a mall pre 1994? That was the Sherman Oaks Galleria Mall it's in fucking everything from Terminator 2 to Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Is that a friggin LGBT flag on top of it?
>we need to shoot a dystopian sci-fi and/or a noir movie
in CA specifically, hispanics do 2.5x the crime whites do per capita while blacks do 9x iirc from DoJ stats. so yeah, not nearly as bad
name 2
both blade runners?
>Or a modern cool office
>Or an old fashioned expensive office
Blade Runner
Chinatown
Marlowe
The Artist
The artist is hardly noir
I asked for 2 you fucking idiot
Native Angelino here. The movies or shows that capture living in LA are
>Nightcrawler
>Collateral
>Yes Man
>Pulp Fiction
>Rush Hour
>The Office (yes, all the sets and locations are in the San Fernando Valley, the main set is in Panorama City while the church that Phyllis got married is in Studio City near Walter Reed Middle School, south of Moorpark and Colfax)
>that Stargate episode where they go to a planet that's the same woods as half of the X-Files
>we need to shoot a generic European city on a budget
>it's set in Russia
>slap a blue filter on the cams
Those are the best cities in Europe.
Confirmed.
Why bother going to Moscowstan when instead you can go to either of those cities is beyond me.
I never realised how much of Amadeus is filmed in Prague until you walk around and there are signs used for tourism to 'come inside and see the [] used in Amadeus'
