Well, the return itself is very reminiscent of the comics from the 90s, the height of the characters popularity and the version most fans adored. Can the same be said about any other Marvel character? That they are currently being written to please the fans?

I don't think raping Eddie and the symbiote as characters just to return to old iconography counts as being written to please fans. If anything it's written to appeal to non-fans who recognize Venom from adaptations.

I get that it sucks that they did away with lot of his characterization I think it’s honestly just more simple this way, harder to fuck up. I think they could stand to do the same with a lot of their characters and be more well off for it. And they’ve been doing a good job on his book so far. I’m excited about the Venom thing in ASM later this year where we’ll get to catch up with Flash.

But you do realize many fans were not happy with how they raped Eddie and the symbiote respectively in Marvel Knights and in Space Knight. Lots of people, who were long time Venom fans, were quite pissed about both of those incidents.

I would say that's more what they tried with Gargan, since to non fans Venom is nothing but a brain eating monster generic villain, and what's basically how Gargan was played for the most part.

If Marvel really cared about pleasing Eddie fans, then why didn't they just bring back Anti-Venom, who a lot of fans agree is Eddie's best persona and one that didn't regress his character back to the 90's?

I agree, I really don't see how it could be fixed otherwise, simply ignoring the bullshit they did before in this case might actually be the best option

Most of the people I see say that are just Flash fans who don't want to get into fights with Eddie fans, so offer up "Anti-Venom is what Eddie should be!" to try and seem diplomatic.

I liked Anti-Venom when it happened, but it was for one and only one reason....because it was basically Venom again just cheating, I would have preferred he had stayed Venom all along.

This is the issue, right here, none of the so called progression made to Eddie or the symbiote was good to begin with, just because it happened doesn't mean it was good. Eddie wanting to get rid of the symbiote was completely random, OOC, and a total asspull....he always wanted to understand his relationship with the symbiote even when he doubted it, making him hate it and get rid of it was BAD writing to begin with.

He has an absurd victim complex regarding Eddie for some reason and refuses to believe any "real" fans can prefer Eddie without the symbiote or any other opinion that isn't EddieVenom being GOAT. He's also claimed crazy shit like Venom is underrated.

He makes me hurt to be an Eddie fan, because he comes in nearly EVERY time people discuss Venom.

I don't actually care about Eddie vs Flash, obviously I like Eddie more based on my posts in this thread alone, but I just didn't see Anti-Venom as anything more than "we fucked up Venom fans, here's Venom, we found a way to give you Venom again while carrying on with our bullshit plans that will go nowhere!"

WHY was Anti-Venom the best? Character wise, it was just Lethal Protector era Venom....just white, and with a bullshit gimmick that was a plot device to a Spider-Man story, who cares, what made Anti-Venom better than Venom? Nothing.

This argument could be said about so many things.

Anti-Venom was cuter than regular Venom.

A lot of fans, maybe not old fans, actually liked Flash as Venom. And a lot of older fans actually liked Eddie as Anti-Venom and were okay with Eddie as Toxin.

There wasn't much of a good reason for both to regress to each other, except "well editorial said so".
You didn't have to LOVE the Space Knight stuff, it's very easy to criticize. But it also didn't require being OMDed. The last few issues were Flash and Venom saying goodbye to that shit and hitting the streets again anyway.

First arc was mediocre, just random adventures. But later it mix stupid klyntars with agentVenom stuff, and does it pretty well.
