In my country we don't have a culture of late night shows. What exactly are late night shows? Here's what I have observed so far:

>It is a genre of non-fictional media (?)
>It revolves around a 'host', typically a white male with a strong or quirky persona
>The topics of each show are either commentary on recent events, news media, or popular media, usually limited to US.
>Celebrities are often invited to talk about some predetermined topic that usually is limited to their career or some political opinion that the host holds
>The host repeats jokes and his opinions on things as factual statements a lot, sometimes as if the show is an actual news media
What the fuck is it? To me it looks like some sort of fake news/propaganda machine in the guise of a "late night" (not even that late..) entertainment show, but I fail to see what entertainment there is in the show beyond possibly reaffirming beliefs you already held through some self-appointed authority

Late night shows are shows normally hosted by a comedian that talks about what's going on in pop culture or the news while generally being light hearted.

Like you'd hear jokes about celebrities or popular TV shows.

One problem we've been experiencing though in the US is our current slate of celebrities are generally boring assholes or else they have politics which are verboten to speak of like Chris Pratt.

Yes. Most Americans don't make political decisions. They're already convinced of what they believe and are merely looking for someone famous to corroborate their anxiety or let them feel smart.

This is hardly limited to americans; this describes most of the world. Nothing inherently wrong with it though.

True. I don't really mean to give people a hard time, not everyone can be well-studied and politically aware. It is what it is. It's just more about media infrastructure and cultivating an audience than it is about being accurate or intelligent.

It's still weird to watch a show, whose format is intended for light hearted comedy and banter, to feel smarter.

America is a prison. There is no escape.

Why yes it is. It's less about feeling smart so much as it about having a declared 'smart person' agree with your politics in ways that are funny to watch. Watching a half hour show that introduces whatever political situation and then wraps it up immediately with a snarky conclusion that feels good is way more simple and realistic for people than doing their own research and accepting a situation may be complicated enough to be worth arguing about.

The reason the average IQ of the west (read: white countries), as well as the world average, is BECAUSE of those foreigners lad. The US isn't getting flooded with Europeans (and neither are European countries getting flooded with other whites), they're getting flooded with South Americans, Africans and Middle Easterners, just like other white countries. France is a particularly noticeable example, where the average IQ is dropping at around 4 points per decade.
