>A lot of studios today would rather just make branded, tentpole, guaranteed box office hits from their inventory of branded successful movies than take chances on smaller films. Those smaller films that studios used make routinely are now going to Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix. Television is really thriving with quality and art. But it poses a clear and present danger to film goers.
Cannes is for art. Netflix is basically film fast food
Ryder Sullivan
It's not netflix's fault that they do nothing but 500 million CGI explosionfest or oscar baits. I miss good B movies that are different.
Nolan Foster
In what way? A lot of Netflix movies are bad just like a lot of Hollywood movies are bad, how is it the medium that is making them bad? Especially when critics are seeing a lot of these film on screener DVDs anyway
Bong Joon Ho and Martin Scorsese aren't making fast food films for Netflix.
Matthew Lewis
Yes goy stay at home and watch (((Netflix)))
Logan Ramirez
NAME ONE (1) GOOD NETFLIX/AMAZON/HULU ORIGINAL
Ryder Reed
it's nothig to do with art, netflix is working outwith the traditional studio model that's been running the show since forever, it's about money and them not making it all themself.
Connor Perry
Enjoy your sharknado?
Ayden Davis
no this is "bad goy don't watch shitty netflix, watch hollywood instead"
friends on netflix or really any old shitty sitcom that's popular on netflix

I really like bright, but the ebin movie committee only reviews stuff about genderless lesbians
Henry Wood
Jews dont like the competition.
Jose Cooper
The funny part here is that you think the Jews or anyone else gives a shit enough about your limp dick existence to craft an intricate billion dollar conspiracy to steal your weekly tendie allowance.
Jeremiah Price
>all this cuckflix shills lmao at you. Amazon kino is not banned btw
Jose Lee
I don't want to live in this world anymore was like the big lebowski lite. Well worth it.
Dominic Harris
actually, sorry, it's "I don't feel at home in this world anymore"
Frodo is hilarious
David Butler
So Spielberg recognizes the power of streaming content provider. Why does he have to fight it? Why would you call someone talented before attacking him?
Luke Anderson
Netflix could just buy out an old movie theater and then play their films there to get around this right?
Tyler Price
>Amazon Studios
The illuminatti of Kino.
Eli Evans
he wants to come off as a good guy who praises his enemy but he went overboard with the praising
Jose Young
I don't get why he takes Netflix as enemy??? If film studios aren't doing well they shouldn't do this useless blocking. It's only hurting themselves
Big studios control their distribution platform of theaters by strangleholding them, something they can't do if they were to deal with Netflix cause they'd just be moved aside by smaller studios that depend on Netflix and who are willing to work under their terms. They see Netflix as the biggest menace to their control of the distribution platform for movies.
Jason King
Might be the worst thing I have ever seen on a screen.
Logan Mitchell

Jacob Jones
so they aren't even trying to hide the reason. it must be banned because it "endangers cinema"
Lincoln Rodriguez
The strange thing with Netflix/amazon/etc is that all their productions cost absurd amounts of money and are shit regardless...
Chase Nguyen
This movie was great. Plot was whatever but the characters and performances were 10/10
Juan Price
the critics shit on them but the public doesn't. just look at the people's ratings of Bright or The Outsider compared to the critic's and it's pretty clear theres some bullshit going on
Dylan Parker
This is only designed to kill Netflix and push big directors like Bong Joon Ho and Scorsese away from these platforms now that they have no chance of fame.
Quite interesting how the first female nominee for cinematography which was a big deal this year was only possible because of a Netflix movie, Mudbound.
Isaac Scott
The critics may be plebs but the public is utterly retarded.
Levi Ortiz
Bright was dogshit. Haven't seen the other one.
Wyatt Peterson
if it was film fast food, it wouldn't fucking win faggot
its entertainment. Its goal is entertain the masses, how is it suddenly bad that it does this.
Aaron Reyes
The problem is distributers not taking any chances not the studios not wanting to make indie stuff in response.
Landon Hill
If David Lynch ever makes a film for Netflix, shits gonna hit the fan cause he's friends with loads of people at Cannes and he's admitted that the art house is dying. He was making short films for the internet way before Netflix existed.
Julian Taylor
Outside of nostalgia is there any reason to actually go to a theater?
Charles Allen
Streaming killed the movie star.
Jeremiah Morgan
> Taking Sup Forums's use of faggot literally.
You must be new.
Colton Foster
I have no problem with gays or trans, Im glad they are progressing. I do have a problem with faggots.
Andrew Gutierrez
>> Taking Sup Forums's use of faggot literally. Who are you quoting?
Ethan Williams
Because spielberg has been advertising Ready Player One™ in cinemas on the ads before movie screenings for fucking months
Netflix doesn't allow him to pull that marketing shit for his flicks
Brayden Davis
>THEY'RE SCARED They are. It's beautiful.
Jonathan Cox
From other Jews in this case?
Angel Collins
>just because they like to eat shit, what's wrong with that?
Jaxson Brown
Movie theaters are going the way of the arcade. All this is just delaying the inevitable.
I did when i was too broke to afford a good tv and stereo system and my local theater had $5 days but then the theater got bought by AMC and $5 days ended so I didn't go to the movies for year and saved the money and bought a good tv and stereo system.
Hollywood and theaters have no one to blame but themselves
Dylan Collins
POOR LITTLE WHITE BOY
Robert Walker
>Short films for the internet But this would imply he allows us to watch them on OUR FUCKING PHONES and laptops over youtube now
Ian Hernandez
that's because no one wants to piss off Jim "I'll buy out your whole industry" Bezos
Adam Jenkins
>Netflix movies are bad just like a lot of Hollywood movies are bad, Netflix movies are Hollywood movies except the foreign ones they distribute.
some movies just look better blown up to movie theater sizes but not many, and certainly not until you're only one of like five people in the screening
Nathaniel Hall
This was before cellphones had screens on them
> OUR FUCKING PHONES and laptops over youtube now This was said when cellphones had small screens.
Jackson Miller
You sound really offended by those tv shows
Cameron Powell
That's stupid, Netflix didn't make Friends or old sitcoms
He's referring to how it's now statistically just as easy for Americans to get shot watching a movie in their home as they are at a theater.
Owen Turner
Nice. Spielberg and Lucas have warned about risk of killing mid budget cinema for years. They are two guys most responsible for state of cinema and hollywood. They invented the blockbusters as we know 'em today and event movies.
I can't wait for their fears of Hollywood implosion to be realized. I want to see a major studio crashing without survivors by having all of their tentpole blockbusters fail one year.
Angel Brown
No major studio will crash without survivors, they'll just get bought out by Disney.
Nolan Phillips
"movies were a mistake" —steven spielberg
Daniel Foster
I know for some of these to be eligible for consideration they have to have played in a theater, which is where the headlines of movies making $12 at the box office come from. It's just some movie that had one screening that wasn't advertised at one dinky theater so it could be included for someone's consideration at that years Jerkoff Indie Film Awards.
Nathaniel Sullivan
this is why i was saying Netflix should just release their shit in one theater and qualify
Adrian King
I wonder if this wasn't the reason why annihilation was released theatrically. Either that or some contractual obligation to a distributor.
Jose Roberts
>Television is really thriving with quality and art. Fake news.
Jack Davis
That was more not wanting to bother with releasing it overseas and having to pay other companies for distribution
Jordan Martinez
No, it is common but Annihilation was the opposite. Annihilation was always intended to be a theatrical release but execs didn't like the test screening responses so they asked for cuts but the director and producer said no so the execs dumped it on Netflix.
Jonathan Thompson
I guess that makes sense when you already have your own international distribution network already.
Robert Jackson
This seems like blatant protectionism.
Nathaniel Reyes
Netflix/Amazon/Hulu awards show when?
Juan James
netflix should start their own awards
Dylan Mitchell
Cinema is overpriced fast food.
Justin Ward
Based Spielberg will make cinema great again
Jayden Cox
Spielberg is done. His oscar-bait shlock will never come close to his earlier work and the blockbuster model he is trying to protect is now dominated by cut-and-paste capeshit flicks.
