is there a single person in the world who unironically believes Heath Ledger's Joker performance isn't truly iconic? it's the same dude that previously starred in 10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight's Tale. just fucking think about that. the talent he ended up showing was remarkable.

Only good part of the flick to be desu
If he hadn't of killed himself nobody would have cared as much.
It was fucking awesome, that movie was fantastic
it was a really well-made film overall user
Why was he killed?
His performance was incredibly embarrassing to watch. Even his co-stars were like, "What the fuck is this guy doing?"
he was a drug addict, which was attributed to him getting shook from being in the Joker's shoes every day for a few months. obviously that was just a cover and he was just a degenerate, though.
>t. Jared Leto
>If he hadn't of killed himself nobody would have cared as much
well shit! aren't you a psychologist!
of course people will care much more if some young Hollywood star dies
doesn't mean that he is overrated because he died
I'm not an American, so I have no clue in terms of the lore and shit surrounding the characters. And to this day, I have no idea what this character was about. It was more an art perfomance than acting, which was highly distracting.
Is there anyone who can actually relate this character?
the 2 best performances Ive ever see are Walter White and Heaths' Joker
He was definitely over acting
are you kidding? the word edgy basically became a buzzword on all of Sup Forums because of videos and pics of idiots trying to mimic the Joker because they thought they related to him
It is. Only contrarians believe otherwise.
Jack was pissed
We're in 4chab so there are probably some people who will claim it was shit for the sake of being contrarian.
I love Jack but what a fucking prick
Something being "iconic" is not a matter of opinion, is a matter how much of an impact it has on the audience.
Heath Ledger´s Joker has become a big part of pop culture, for the vast majority of people, when someone metions The Joker, this is the Joker they think about.
It has nothing to do with how good or bad something is.
Star Wars is iconic despite being mediocre.
Thats why he won the Oscar
Still the only capeshit to win Oscars that actually mean something
I liked it even though I think method acting is a stupid meme created by retards trying to advertise themselves and add value to their performance by doing stupid shit to make it seem like they were really devoted to it.
I'm pretty sure most people think of the animated Joker when someone mentions the Joker.
shut up brah, it has a positive connotation
"Relating to a character" is a really shitty metric for talking about how good a performance is.
Only in burgerland.
The difference is people will say "who" in 20 years about Heath Ledger, but not about Elvis.
that's cool, but also a different point. skip the lecture next time hombre
idk about that
there are kids and young adults who don't know elvis now
Ledger's Joker is iconic, not Ledger himself, just like Darth Vader is an iconic character while James Earl Jones not so much.
Why didn´t you include the OTHER THREE DEFINITIONS in your screencap?
This didn't deserve a thread of its own.
because none of them are mutually exclusive and only this one was needed to dispel a certain point
this
and it's a surprisingly nuanced movie. Maybe it's because I was too young when it came out so every time I re watched I was older and smarter and picked up new things, maybe it was because of my shallow knowledge of DC lore, but it's not a completely brainless movie like recent capeshit is.
most people above 40 maybe, even fratbros like heath's joker.
method acting is a buzzword advertisers created to advertise movies to audiences and awards. It means "taking your work seriously" as an actor, and not showing up on set and hamming it up for 2 hours like golden age movie business was all about.
Of course that doesn't include retardations like dicaprio did.
Most people younger than 20 don´t know about Elvis already.
Fuck, even I (23) only know about him because of parodies in 80s-early 90s cartoons.
Of course, music schoolars will always know about him, but not the general public.
I have never heard of someone saying 'who' about Elvis, but I have about Heath Ledger.
Don't get me wrong, I like Heath Ledger, but he's not 'iconic'.
Ledger's rendition of the Joker falls into the same category of 'forgotten in 20 years'.
Ledger's Joker will be celebrated for a long time. don't fool yourself. every future iteration of it will be compared to his and fail to live up to his standard and thus people will always talk about him
>Most people younger than 20 don´t know about Elvis already.
I call bullshit.
>Ledger's rendition of the Joker falls into the same category of 'forgotten in 20 years'.
How do you know this? It hasn't even 10 years yet and people are still talking about Ledger's Joker.
>Most people younger than 20 don´t know about Elvis already.
Right... no, user. That's not true.
>this thread
I thought the contrarian opinion was to prefer nicholson
its a better thread than the other though.
I prefer Nicholson as an actor, but Ledger's Joker was definitely better than Nicholson's.
are you retarded? i have a 15 year old sister. literally has no idea about anything outside of rap and edm and pop garbage. its all about lil twerk and yung dump or whatever the fuck their names are. this cunt and her friends didnt even know who fucking Pink Floyd was
bullshit, he had been addicted to sleeping pills for years and was depressed that he couldn't work things out with his daughter's mother
Best live-action joker I've seen. Makes all the jokers that proceed him seem silly. What makes it a great performance to me is how easily it draws you in. Heath sold that weirdo to me, that somehow a character that outlandish could exist.
Who are you? Are you stoned? I assure you kids still know Elvis Presley, and Darth Vader has not been forgotten.
Sounds like you just have a trendy retard for a sister. Your anecdote proves nothing.
>are you retarded?
No, I'm not, and I don't care for your ad hominem.
>Pink Floyd
This is not comparable with Elvis in terms of popularity.
They might make better music, and be more revered by the music 'elite', but they are nowhere near as known nor as iconic as Elvis Presley.
Because your 15 year old sister don't know Elvis doesn't mean that 'most people under 20' don't know Elvis.
that's what I'm saying ya dingadoo
>method acting is a buzzword advertisers created to advertise movies to audiences and awards. It means "taking your work seriously" as an actor, and not showing up on set and hamming it up for 2 hours like golden age movie business was all about.
But method acting has gone beyond that.
Now if someone is a method actor an plays a fisherman they don't just research about fishermen, talk with a few of them and maybe experience fishermen work once. No, now they stay in-character for 4 months while living in a ship in the middle of the sea and only fish that they have caught.
It's pointless, incredibly retarded, doesn't really improve a character's acting in any way and like you said it's just a shitty publicity stunt.
I think the worst offender is Jared Leto.
Don't call your sister a cunt, user.
b2r you soft ponce
Hamill's Joker is still the best.
I don't know what b2r means.
no you said he went crazy for playing the Joker, there is a documentary about him which features like 40 minutes of his vlogs, he started taking pills back in 2002 and changed after he and Michelle broke up since their daughter was the most important thing in his life for 2 years
you are clearly a tourist
That whole narrative was fucking ridiculous anyway
>spends months actually playing the person
>nothing happens
>production wraps
>nothing happens
>starts filming Terry Gilliam movie months later
>dies in the middle of it
>"It must have been because he was so wrapped up in the Joker role even though he stopped acting as the Joker months ago and was knee-deep in the middle of another part which would have been consuming most of his mental space if he was as method as we all say he is"
A young, rich dude in a town full of degenerates and addicts took some shit he shouldn't have, why does that even require further explanation?
>obviously that was just a cover
>durr my retarded sister dont know elvis and therefore nobody knows him
FUCKING
THIS
In defense of this guy
I don't think I've seen anyone use that acronym before. So what is B2R?
well he was an addict, if you consider that degenerate than sure
also, I wouldn't say cover, mainly just publicity and attempting to create a legend around him
A tourist? I'm guessing you're saying I don't usually browse Sup Forums?
That's not true. I do visit Sup Forums frequently, although it's not my main board.
>mainly just publicity and attempting to create a legend around him
>not a cover
user, you gotta stop with the damage control. you just read something wrong, it's okay
>my 15 year old sister is representative for all humans in the age of 0-20.
MASKYOUSUMMIN, BATS
yeah I agree, that's why I said I'm not talking about retards like dicaprio. Maybe I wasn't clear, but my point is that nowadays everytime an actor barely takes his work seriously they call him a "method actor" and he is suddenly worthy of adoration.
It's like jared leto studying and practicing blind people's mannerism for niander wallace and then jared leto wearing blinding contacts for whole days of filming and needing a handler to walk around the set.
>I have to have the last word, so I won't damage my fragile ego
the joker was getting stronger inside him
So has anyone seen that Gotham TV show? I heard the Joker is in that one too but I haven't heard anyone mention him or talk about his actor's perfomance.
what are your favorite acting performances in the last 10 years lads? no hard number or anything, just wanna know what people really admire.
for me, it's:
>DDL in Lincoln
>DDL in TWBB
>PSH in The Master
>Heath in TDK
>Bardem in No Country
>Joaquin in You Were Never Really Here
>Toni Servillo in The Great Beauty
>Sam Rockwell in Three Billboards
why would that be me when I'm not the one who can't read?
And then they'll say: "The dude who played The Joker", thus his performance being iconic. I'm pretty sure kids these days don't know who Marlon Brando is, but they'll know who 'The Godfather' is.
It was a good performance, but not groundbreaking or anything. Horribly overrated.
I wish Nolan's Joker would've been more like TAS Joker btw.; he's not crazy enough and his hair looks fucking faggy.
>I say flick
>you say film
I guess we'll have to compromise and call it a movie. In all seriousness though, it hasn't aged well for me. The production value was good, and the action scenes were enjoyable as far as action scenes go I suppose, but I stand by the fact that Ledger was the only exceptional factor.
