Sean Lock is an endless supply of laughs. Really liked what he did on that QI episode when Rory McGrath (basically confirmed to be that one panelist who demands to know the questions in advance) started reciting prepared knowledge in the most boring and self-flattery way

Sean knows that on QI you need a mix of being knowledgeable and being entertaining.

I'm all for sharing knowledge on QI but it's a comedy panel show first and foremost. If you're gonna research all the questions in advance so you can give perfect answers at least put some effort into your presentation as well so you don't look like a pompous git.

I used to think the guy demanding to know the questions in advance was John Sessions because he also always knew everything, but after seeing him in other things I realised he really just knows an insane amount about anything. Thankfully he loosened up in later appearances and became more laid back and funny. People are glad he's never on QI these days but I'd happily replace Jupitus with Sessions.

This is an experience I doubt many here will relate to but I will nonetheless share. On Thursday nights in Scotland a new episode of Lee's show Not Going Out airs followed by a new episode of the recently revived much loved show Still Game.

Still Game has been utterly terrible this past season despite the original run (first 3 seasons especially) being utter masterpieces. Not Going Out has completely overshadowed Still Game these past 3 weeks and is probably the only thing the BBC currently makes that I enjoy. Can we talk about Not Going Out? Those last few episodes have been Kino territory.

>Still Game has been shit recently
>Not Going Out has been better and better recently
I never thought I was going to say this, but it's true. Both new series are three episodes in and only the first episode of the recent Still Game run was any good, while all three NGOs have been kino. Shame about Still Game, that used to be solid quality throughout.

I used to watch Not Going Out thinking it was alright but nothing special, but the current series has been really really good.

Nu-qi is shit thanks to the dyke. She seemed alright as a guest but either she was holding back or someone instructed her to to change her behavior as the host. Also the increased female guest ratio isn't helping.

I'm not a fan of Lee. He's witty and all but cuts other people and always try and take as much room as possible in every panel show he's in.

Norm

Does the guy on the right have downes syndrome?

I honestly prefer Toksvig to Fry nowadays, QI's been a lot more fun since she took over, last couple years under Fry had a huge dip in quality

>cuts other people and always try and take as much room as possible in every panel show he's in
That's because he deserves that room and that spotlight unlike so many people on there

The first episode of the recent Still Game had a great premise in lampooning insufferable pretentious West End pubs only to instead focus on an over the the top and mean spirited sequence of the leads stealing from Boaby, who is pretty much the heart of the show in the reboot since the Pete revelation. It actually hurts to see one of my favourite shows go this low, it's like the simpsons but far less gradual, Methadone Mick has already became so wacky that he's outstayed his welcome after less than 2 seasons.

Not Going Out has transitioned well from it's old premise and is much better than the previous season. Hugh Dennis and Sharpe's wife have been fantastic and the situations have been utterly farcical.

kino

Not exactly a comedian, but easily the best "family entertainment" type host on television. Good actor and singer too.

Most of the comics that have appeared on Live at the Apollo in the past

>FANNY SCHMELER

yes yes yes

I quite liked the situation in that recent Still Game episode. A couple of OAPs squatting in an empty flat above the pub, fishing up bottles of booze and going on a non-stop bender for a couple of days like a bunch of students was hilarious to me.

Not Going Out has proved to be good enough to survive the change of premise and even the addition of children. They seemed to learn their lesson after last year by focusing much less on the children (didn't appear in first two episodes, only a small part in the last one). Hugh Dennis and his wife are great fun as well, much better best friend than Tim Vine was.
Last week's Inside No. 9-esque escape room episode was kino, and this week's bit where they were hiding under the bed and forced to overhear awkward, reluctant sex had me in tears.

test

Pic unrelated, right?

I just felt stealing his prize malt was the little step too far that pushed it into uncomfortable territory, just me though. I much preferred the £4 bottle of beer stuff, Tam's rant outside the pub was probably the most this Season felt like Still Game.

"Wit even is pulled pork?! Sounds like a porno!"

Toby has been a better supporting character than Tim this season, I hope future seasons stick to sidelining the kids and focus on Lee and Lucy stuck in farcical situations, it has really worked so far.

These two shows are the only things other than Ash that I watch with my father every week, I'm happy he's enjoying Not Going Out.

It went a bit far I suppose, but that was the point really. They didn't know at the time the hipster pub thing was part of a plan to surprise Isa, so they were perfectly justified to screw Boabby over for selling out and getting rid of his loyal customers.

NGO is going great and like I said they've learned that the kids are annoying so they're not in there much now. I think they've already greenlit two more series after this and I'm confident they'll be great.

It's a shame those two shows are the only thing currently airing that's worth watching though. I'm enjoying them but they're really the only thing I go out of my way to watch/catch up on. No decent new comedy or drama in sight at the mo

The only other airing UK show I can tolerate is bake off, which is frankly just sad.

It's late user, I hope you have a good night.
