Steven Universe Failed Symbolism

The show creators says that fusion represents relationships, if that's the case, then it's a very poorly executed symbol that neglects to distance itself from the obvious sexual connotations.
If it was supposed to represent relationships, they did it wrong, demonstrably wrong. Relationships are not static. People are not static. They evolve. People get angry at each other, grow apart. Fusions are static, and binary. They're either fused or not. Sapphire and Ruby don't evolve while they're fused. Ruby doesn't go out and try new things, go watch a movie that Sapphire already knows the ending to. They become defined by the one single relationship they have, shutting the individuals off from the rest of the world and leaving something else in their place. And the real kicker is that fusions are *reliable*. When two individuals fuse, they always create the same new individual (unless the show has addressed this after all this time, in which case feel free to correct me).
If it was a symbol for relationships, then there'd actually be more resemblance with sexuality, since you'd get different offspring depending on how the relationship is. You wouldn't be able to put one name on the fusion. There'd be a form where the two are strained, a form where one is calm, but the other is enraged, you'd see different outcomes based on the same input.
If it really is a good, thought-out symbol for anything, it's group drug use. Fusion is essentially the individuals letting their consciousness fade out into a happy place where they feel stronger. You see addiction to it in Pearl's case, you see children experimenting with it in Stevonny's case, and Garnet? Garnet is a long-time user who only sobers up when reality brings down her buzz.?

>We just needed a reason to fuse.

>SU discussion off-season is a bannable//trash/able offense
>this shit is fine tho
Mods are clods.

...

Maybe the Mods are trying to tell you something...

>fusion represents relationships
Guess what steven's fusion with amethyst represents

Two lesbian midgets, a fat girl and a sexually frustrated tall one share a house, it sounds like a porno

Yo-yos?

No analogy is perfect, user, but I get your point.

My gripe with Garnet is that she's not strong. She only exists as long as Ruby & Sapphire are together, & Ruby is a total mess. It's not a good value to promote that people are better in relationships.

>This show is a great representation of strong women
>Wait, they're genderless space creatures

>Fusion is represents relationships and sex
>Wait, two kids do it, no it doesn't

>This is the greatest example of LGBTQ on TV
>But none of them kiss or hold hands or show any affection other than the whole fusion thing that totally doesn't represent romance

Maybe they're just a bunch of pussies who don't want to commit to anything lest they be held responsible for it? Or maybe they just don't know what the fuck they're doing?

>Steven Universe Failed Symbolism
Steven Universe failed more than that. It failed at being an entertaining and good show.

>Much like the warrior gems being feminine yet distinctly combative, Steven is a reversal of the typical masculinity = aggression trope, showing a younger audience that a boy doesn't have to solve problems with violence in order to be masculine
>oh wait let's make him a permanently 8 year old faggot that's not allowed to age lol

I mean I guess they're not wrong but I figured they would actually try harder.

yeah fusion symbolizing a relationship between two people makes sense on the surface but when the show forces you to analyze themes like abuse and consent, it feels like they're oversimplifying it a little. I know what they're intent is, and I think it's kind of clever. but it does make you wonder do ruby and Sapphire have an personalities beyond their relationship with each other.

>warrior gems being feminine

>fusion represents relationships
Was this supposed to be rape?

>Fusions are static, and binary.
that go out of their way to show that Garnet now is different from Garnet when Ruby and Sapphire first started fusing

Abusive relationships.

It represents the producer/talent relationships that are common in the entertainment industry. Lapis has great potential and power but becomes much stronger when fused with the abusive jasper.

toxic codependency. jasper needs to be useful while bob needs somebody else t blame for her problems

The yo yo goes up and down on the string while it's held tight in place.

>The crewniverse
>doing something clever

Yes. It is a forced fusion that Lapis tricked Jasper into forming and forced Jasper to stay in, afterwards admitting to doing so for sadistic reasons. Straight up rape.
What Pearl did to Garnet during the Sardonyx arc was also rape by deception since she never got Garnet's full consent when fusing with her and decided to use and manipulate her instead.

I won’t make that mistake again

Guess that means amethyst is a pedo.

at least she isn't a rapist

It's really hard to see your point when pic related is sexy fanart.

>statutory rape isn't rape!

I want to plunge my cock deep into Garnet's ass.

Wait....do Gems even have assholes?

Bruh, they can shapeshift

...

they can eat food without shape shifting, and that food needs to come out somewhere, so yes, they have assholes

However many you want.

Maybe you're just putting words in their mouths and saying they said shit that they never actually said?

Was she pooping on acreen or aomething?

/ss/

>Sapphire and Ruby aren't in love, their addicted to fusion
Has the show addressed this yet?

But Garnet is also the byproduct of extreme codependency. Neither can survive without the other anymore otherwise they completely break down. They literally can't even think about anyone except themselves anymore.

...

>they can eat food without shape shifting
no they can't

>peridot freaks out when garnet is fused for no reason.
Yeah, totally a relationship and not fucking every moment.

DBZ did fusions a whole lot better

That's because fusing all the time is Homeworld version of open carry.

IT'S BEEN ALMOST HALF A YEAR
I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE MESSAGE
I JUST WANT IT TO PUT MOVING IMAGES ON THE FUCKING SCREEN

You're so busy looking for things that support your argument that you can't see anything that doesn't. Pull your head out of your ass.

Now I’m not going to pretend that SU is a flawless masterpiece or anything and understand that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and how it’s flaws can put off some people
It’s just why does Sup Forums have a such massive hate boner for it like what anons image shows, you guys theme to be absolutely determined to beat this horse to the ground till it’s dust and shut down any kind of discussion of it. I mean like I recall instances of anons making SU references/jokes on some threads and other anons getting butthurt about it and try to reee it out
Like shouldn’t this be the kind of treatment stuff like the emoji movie and YOUR NEW FAVOURITE SHOW be getting?

This type of posting you are talking about started with MLP and when they got removed from this board, people saw that if you bitch about a show hard enough that you might get them removed from Sup Forums as well.

>clods
Spotted the SUfag
People hating MLP didnt get them removed, it was people liking it posting it EVERYWHERE, and making a bunch of threads constantly. MLP fans got themselves removed, just like /SUG/ did.

Regardless of why it got removed when it did, people tried to find "the next MLP" which meant those same people went around to every other cartoon threads trying to make a fanbase as cancerous as MLP and it worked for SU because of the Tumblr fanbase being that fucking retarded.

Ruby and Sapphire kiss
