Fantasy kino:

Just finished this, it was weird as hell but fucking awesome, like the fairy tails jumped straight onto the screen. Great cinematography and scale, some of the scenes were the prettiest I’ve ever seen in a film

Recommend me another good fantasy/legend kino, Sup Forums

litterally Conan

kys you absolute faggot

The director's cut of Legend is my shit, nigga.

I love both versions but yes the director's cut is far better

Has anyone ever made a fan edit of the director's cut WITH the Tangerine Dream score?

Was DC the cut with the "it was all a dream" ending?

I don't think so but I'd love to watch it

Attached: Rocco-Siffredi.jpg (922x613, 126K)

there's a scene where Lily wakes up and thinks it was all a dream, but it's clearly shown that it wasn't

>the Tangerine Dream score
Tell me more, user. Is it all original TD music or do they lift music from an album?

Original. They did quite a lot of film scores back in the day.

>the ol' Labyrinth dream switcheroo
My favorite Baron Munchausen also did that.

Attached: Jennifer Connelly's metoo moment.jpg (1112x469, 83K)

This isn't the Tangerine Dream score?

youtu.be/LfOWehvvuo0

At some points this movie feels like a parody.

Neato. I'll have to search around for the music at least. TD is some patrician tier music and I bet a fantasy score done by them would be great.

The shorter US theatrical cut had an original Tangerine Dream score. The longer and far superior director's cut has a traditional score by Jerry Goldsmith.

The first third or so of the film was directed as if it was a parody, or at least a hammy stage production, it was completely intentional

>weird as hell but fucking awesome, like the fairy tails jumped straight onto the screen
OP, get your jizzrag handy. I've got just what you need.

I would like to second this question.

oh it was? I though it was being very sincere and my cynicism had seeped into it.

Its.

What is a good adaptation of the Quixote?

>a big budget LotR filmed in the 70s by John Boorman with no CGI
I'm practically splooging my pants just at the thought of it.

I wonder if he'd use the Bo Hansson soundtrack.

Krull was a spectacularly shitty misfire, but it has some cool fantasy stuff in it.

Attached: Krull-1983-Original.jpg (932x1527, 997K)

nah it's excellent

I love the crystal spider.

Attached: krull_spider2.jpg (842x357, 89K)

That would be terrible

Recently saw Neverending Story for the first time since I was a kid. This scene still wrecks me.

Attached: Artax.jpg (1200x800, 139K)

no download here though.

I need to introduce my kid sister to Legend, and this is exactly how to fucking do it.

It's just contrarian shitposting, user.

>it was weird as hell
I fucking hate youngfags

Any good "sword and soecery" like songs? This is all i got. youtube.com/watch?v=09l_zXCQpik

Beatles Lord of the Rings would be terrible. Boorman's LotR would be the right kind of surreal. Basically just Bakshi's version but in live action..

Attached: b4de64745e651246dcd99f2c1b04fbb8.jpg (600x332, 39K)

>Boorman's LotR would be the right kind of surreal.
It would have been glorious.

>they look like big, good strong hands ;_;

It's not shitty at all. Peter Yates is a great director.

It's not entirely their fault, they've grown up on garbage and vapid pop-culture analyses. Still, Excalibur is a great film and one that can grow with you if you're willing to do some reading, reflecting, and living.

Even speaking as a guy who adored Jackson's LotR, I couldn't agree more.

Attached: 20170820161834.png (1024x576, 2.85M)

Donner's score is fucking perfect for it. It's a great score overall, but it just fits the movie so well.

youtube.com/watch?v=tKtLjztXhhA&list=PLH9C08qrQ7S51hmU5y0M7HgQhT8Lx6GPy

It's a great looking flick, but the acting is horrendous.

>ywn live in a world where Boorman's Excalibur and LotR trilogy exist side-by-side

*Horner's

I miss the 80s fantasy aesthetic so much. CGI was a mistake.

Attached: Return to Oz.jpg (848x460, 58K)

movie was about project monarch and monarch programming. good flick.

I wish Disney didn't treat pic related like an unholy abomination. I need this on Blu-ray.

Attached: British_Poster_Black_Cauldron-1024x774.jpg (1024x774, 289K)

Amen to that. Always wondered if Don Bluth had a hand in it. It had that vaguely rotoscoped feel to it.

the beastmaster
willow
hook
the 10th kingdom
the princess bride
merlin

No it wasn't
because Monarch programming is made up.

It was a weird, but good imo, era for Disney. I love the Black Hole.

How do anons feel about this Merlin?

Attached: bb_merlss.jpg (1200x679, 228K)

Sam's and the elf guys acting was the saving grace of it.

Is Dragonslayer any good? I think it's the only notable 80s fantasy flick that I haven't seen yet.

Well done, Sam, well done.
HOWEVER

Attached: GAZE INTO THE EYES OF THE DRAGON.jpg (1200x793, 162K)

Well, it's worth a watch.

true fantasy kino has not been achieved. prove me wrong. and by prove me wrong i mean i don’t care what your opinion is.

It's pretty good, and I liked the leads.

Attached: Dragonslayer_14.jpg (624x256, 23K)

Black Hole had god tier set design. I'm still pissed that Kosinski's remake got cancelled.

It's not bad. Watch Jabberwocky, too, if you haven't.

>Beatles Lord of the Rings
Jesus Christ I can't believe this almost happened.

>Be Ridley Scott
>Make fantasy kino
>Decide to ditch amazing classical score for pop synth
>Cut a bunch of scenes even though the movie wasn't that long to begin with
>realize your mistake and release superior version after the fact

I still don't understand what happened here

Read the wiki.

>not liking a synth soundtrack in your fantasy kino

That was a really well done bit of stop motion, the spider was creepy as fuck.

reminder that boy mordred is charlie from long way round

FLASH A-AH

Attached: Flash_Gordon_movie_30.jpg (639x292, 58K)

Great movie too

Hell I had no idea boy Mordred was Boorman's son.
I always felt GRRM just straight described Charley Boorman when he introduced his readers to Joffrey Baratheon. Makes sense considering they're both the product of bro/sis incest.
>Joffrey has the Lannister look and is tall for a boy his age, with blond curly hair. Known to be handsome, he has bright green eyes, pouty lips and an evil sneer. Jon Snow thinks that Joffrey looks like a girl. He always wears the finest clothing and accents, as befits the royal heir.

It was achieved a long time ago

Attached: Conan_the_Barbarian_by_Renato_Casaro.jpg (272x386, 77K)

where can i fucking stream this god damn it.

One of my favorites. It's got some really great old-school FX work like you'd expect but also legitimately good acting, and it's well written.

How unbelievably shitty will the inevitable Highlander remake be?

Attached: 1847f7db-f21f-4c4d-9bbb-4ab35cea928c.jpg (522x348, 27K)

Perfection

More of an ultra flamboyant 1930s sci fi, but also Perfection

>we will never see John Milius' Conan trilogy
Goddamnit.

Unironically probably better than the highlander we got
Just omit spanish Sean Connery and Clancy Brown Kurgan cause you'll never top those performances

It's been in development hell for too long and they still haven't got a Connor yet.
Also it's a fucking remake, which itself is a mistake.
The only good Highlander followup will forever be an anime by the guys who made Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust.

Attached: best villain.jpg (672x372, 23K)

Sad, really. No one will ever match him.

HAWK THE SLAYER YOU FUCKING FAGGOT FUCKS HOLY FUCK HOW DO YOU NOT MENTION THIS MOVIE IN THIS THREAD?

I remember it being pretty terrible but I've not seen it since VHS days

This movie was so ahead of it's time, shame it was released the same year as Star Wars.

Based Elliot.

I think I let out a "FUCK YEAH" when Sam said that in the documentary.

I'm starting to learn that most of the shit I hated as a kid I'll end up liking now because I'm so jaded and worn out from seeing too many movies that anything different is interesting.

>shame it was released the same year as Star Wars.
Wasn't, tho.

Star Wars (1977)
The Black Hole (1979)

Tale of Tales. It's like The Princess Bride for adults.

this is worth watching just for the art design.
I thought this was much better than Excalibur. The scene where Merlin has to leave Camelot, and Arthur says "Don't worry, I still have Excalibur." And Merlin doesn't say anything, but you tell he's thinking 'oh no, he's just like his father.' It's so kino. A lesser director would have put words in that moments to really spell it out to the audience.

It came out 2 years after Star Wars.

>I thought this was much better than Excalibur.
You thought wrong, and I loved Merlin.

I'm sorry, I was thinking of Empire Strikes Back which was released only a few months afterward. Really my point was Star Wars sort of dominated science fiction at the time.

I always thought Ladyhawke was just mediocre but that theme music is fucking great.

It did, yeah, and Star Wars was the sole reason Alien, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, The Black Hole among others got made. Every studio wanted to cash-in.

You're an idiot. Krull rules.
