Just finished this, it was weird as hell but fucking awesome, like the fairy tails jumped straight onto the screen. Great cinematography and scale, some of the scenes were the prettiest I’ve ever seen in a film
Recommend me another good fantasy/legend kino, Sup Forums
Neato. I'll have to search around for the music at least. TD is some patrician tier music and I bet a fantasy score done by them would be great.
Leo Gutierrez
The shorter US theatrical cut had an original Tangerine Dream score. The longer and far superior director's cut has a traditional score by Jerry Goldsmith.
Oliver Ortiz
The first third or so of the film was directed as if it was a parody, or at least a hammy stage production, it was completely intentional
Jason Martinez
>weird as hell but fucking awesome, like the fairy tails jumped straight onto the screen OP, get your jizzrag handy. I've got just what you need.
It's not entirely their fault, they've grown up on garbage and vapid pop-culture analyses. Still, Excalibur is a great film and one that can grow with you if you're willing to do some reading, reflecting, and living.
Josiah Sanchez
Even speaking as a guy who adored Jackson's LotR, I couldn't agree more.
>Beatles Lord of the Rings Jesus Christ I can't believe this almost happened.
Jeremiah Allen
>Be Ridley Scott >Make fantasy kino >Decide to ditch amazing classical score for pop synth >Cut a bunch of scenes even though the movie wasn't that long to begin with >realize your mistake and release superior version after the fact
Hell I had no idea boy Mordred was Boorman's son. I always felt GRRM just straight described Charley Boorman when he introduced his readers to Joffrey Baratheon. Makes sense considering they're both the product of bro/sis incest. >Joffrey has the Lannister look and is tall for a boy his age, with blond curly hair. Known to be handsome, he has bright green eyes, pouty lips and an evil sneer. Jon Snow thinks that Joffrey looks like a girl. He always wears the finest clothing and accents, as befits the royal heir.
More of an ultra flamboyant 1930s sci fi, but also Perfection
Caleb Powell
>we will never see John Milius' Conan trilogy Goddamnit.
Luke Brown
Unironically probably better than the highlander we got Just omit spanish Sean Connery and Clancy Brown Kurgan cause you'll never top those performances
Adam Rogers
It's been in development hell for too long and they still haven't got a Connor yet. Also it's a fucking remake, which itself is a mistake. The only good Highlander followup will forever be an anime by the guys who made Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust.
HAWK THE SLAYER YOU FUCKING FAGGOT FUCKS HOLY FUCK HOW DO YOU NOT MENTION THIS MOVIE IN THIS THREAD?
Easton Ward
I remember it being pretty terrible but I've not seen it since VHS days
Benjamin Taylor
This movie was so ahead of it's time, shame it was released the same year as Star Wars.
Carson Carter
Based Elliot.
Lucas Morales
I think I let out a "FUCK YEAH" when Sam said that in the documentary.
Elijah Sanchez
I'm starting to learn that most of the shit I hated as a kid I'll end up liking now because I'm so jaded and worn out from seeing too many movies that anything different is interesting.
Carter Gomez
>shame it was released the same year as Star Wars. Wasn't, tho.
Star Wars (1977) The Black Hole (1979)
Jose Garcia
Tale of Tales. It's like The Princess Bride for adults.
this is worth watching just for the art design. I thought this was much better than Excalibur. The scene where Merlin has to leave Camelot, and Arthur says "Don't worry, I still have Excalibur." And Merlin doesn't say anything, but you tell he's thinking 'oh no, he's just like his father.' It's so kino. A lesser director would have put words in that moments to really spell it out to the audience.
Ethan Gray
It came out 2 years after Star Wars.
Luke Young
>I thought this was much better than Excalibur. You thought wrong, and I loved Merlin.
Eli Howard
I'm sorry, I was thinking of Empire Strikes Back which was released only a few months afterward. Really my point was Star Wars sort of dominated science fiction at the time.
Jaxon Bennett
I always thought Ladyhawke was just mediocre but that theme music is fucking great.
Brayden Gutierrez
It did, yeah, and Star Wars was the sole reason Alien, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, The Black Hole among others got made. Every studio wanted to cash-in.
