Aliens fans hate it for killing off Newt and Michael Biehn.
pretty much everything about it.
1 and 2 are the only good films.
the only thing i liked was bishop getting plugged in in the beginning and the next bishop appearing at the end. the typhus reference was a nice reference to ww2 too, overall it wasn't what the director wanted to make. watch the making over and directors cut instead.
i dont hate it
Too dark. Like it was legit depressing to watch, not scary.
wasn't the xenomorph a cow? kek
>lets make a horror film where 95% of the cast are deliberately scum so you feel zero sympathy when they die
That and the slasher-tier 4th quarter of the movie make it all around pretty terrible. It's amazing that they went from Aliens to this.
Depends on the cut.
none of these fucks were even born your retarded cock sucker. fucking kill yourself
Pretty simple.
You can thank Sigourney Weaver being a diva and not wanting to share screen with Bien
Because they didn't use the original idea of them landing on a wooden planet populated by monks.
>MUH NEWT AND HICKS
>MUH WOODEN PLANET
Many (((fans))) are children.
I honestly didn't mind that. It was just so fucking boring for a film. I didn't find it suspenseful. The sets seemed drab, it was a prison of all shit so prison+industrial stuff it was drab as fuck. The characters were all pretty much prisoners so they didn't really seem like the type of people I care if they survive till the end of the film.
You're full of shit.
>Michael Biehn's Corporal Hicks would be promoted to protagonist in the third film, with Sigourney Weaver's character of Ellen Ripley reduced to a cameo appearance before returning in the fourth installment, "an epic battle with alien warriors mass-produced by the expatriated Earthlings." Weaver liked the Cold War metaphor, and agreed to a smaller role,[16] particularly due to a dissatisfaction with Fox, who removed scenes from Aliens crucial to Ripley's backstory.[17]
I only watched the assembly cut and I don't get it either, it's inferior to alien and aliens but still good. The ending is by far the weakest part of the film, but clemens is one of the best characters of the whole franchise IMO. I can only assume the original cut was much worse and the hate comes from that.
It was a great movie
First off the premise alone is kino fuel even without the xeno, its about a single woman in a planet prision filled with only men, not only men but the worst men, right there you have enough for a movie itself but then you have xeno sum that with the fact that the entire planet has no guns and you have purest form of kino.
Now if you guys reminded whats the original intention behind the xeno design, it was supposed to be edgelord nigigger visual metaphor for rape, as if rape was a creature, theres no better setting for it to play then prison itself, the movie was supposed to enhance alien poetic journey and so it did, but not according to the critics of course, for some reason people at the time and even nowdays talk about this movie as some sort of unredeemable garbage, but i just can't see it, whenever i watch i see greatness everywhere.
Nothing you wrote undermines what I wtote in any way.. Unless you were planning on elaborating somehow?
You know it's kind of hilarious in retrospect I never felt like Ripley was ever in any sort of danger from any of the "dangerous" prison guys at any point in time.
It never seemed like there was an "implication". I half expected Ripley was more likely going to beat them up for pissing her off.
Why did they need to continue with Sigourney Weaver as the star? Her story should have ended with Aliens. Aliens 3 should have taken place 20 years later with Newt as main character
the real issue is why was Covenant so unforgivably terrible
This movie was the bright before bright, critics hate it, everyone followed along.
yet if you see it, you will enjoy it.
Alien Resurrection is better than Alien 3.
Kill yourself.
This guy gets it
What could have been
Alien 3 went through dramatic rewriting
From the first trailer alone, they obviously planned 3 to be about an outbreak on Earth
youtube.com
Plenty of concept art also exists about a space cathedral full of Monks that was probably the original incarnation of the religious prison inmates
Alien Resurrection is the best of the series.
Resurrection is by no means a good film, but its enjoyable enough to watch. Alien 3 is so depressing and boring.
jej
>depressing
If that's something that makes a film "bad" to you, you should stick to capeshit.
why would you single covenant out? everything after 3 sucked
I think the reference was cholera wasn't it
But I liked Alien 3. I thought it was a appropriate end to the trilogy.
The director killed Newt and Hicks in some off screen bullshit.
Man I wish you'd people would stop posting Ridley teeth pictures like this. I can't spend all day fapping thinking about getting head.
I was a kid when I first watched this. gave me a odd fetish for bald chicks. wtf.
I always wondered if it's saliva was corrosive
...I have strange request for lesbian porn now
am I doing it right senpai??
IIRC it practically drooled on Brett before it killed him in the first movie and he didn't seem burned by it
I wish Charles Dance lived longer
I came back to it with new appreciation after alien resurrection and the predator crossovers
I don't hate it. I just wish the green screen pupet work was done smoother.
i agree
same, one of the best alien characters for me
I hate the chase sequence at the end. The floor plan is never established, so it's just identical bald guys running around identical hallways for ten minutes.
Can you source this story?
>what could have been
a goofy-ass fantasy movie that you would have hated far more than what you actually ended up getting
no but they can spit acid
it happens in 3 and in 4
the floor plan is never established in the first movie either and it ends with 10 minutes of Ripley running around
The theatrical cut fucked a lot up but the assembly cut is legit awesome, most ppl just hated how nihilistic it was and wanted that annoying damsel cunt and "fuk yeh" marines back which fucking sucked to begin with unless you're a low iq normie. 1 and 3 are my favs. I agree op it's dark, brutal and awesome.
>The theatrical cut fucked a lot up but the assembly cut is legit awesome
What does it add that makes it so much better in your opinion?
>Too dark. Like it was legit depressing to watch
See this faggot proves my point, complete p[ussy faggot audience that only cares about muh feefees. It's a fucking brutal alien lifeform you stupid cunt, it should be dark, desperate and depressing.
aliens was cringe pleb drivel full of cliche, the criminals were way more likeable than the fucking macho derp marines and their americanisms.
>Many (((fans))) are children.
this.
>The characters were all pretty much prisoners so they didn't really seem like the type of people I care if they survive till the end of the film.
What an unbelievably infantile simplified black and white perspective you absolute mouth breather. You have the criteria i expect from disney watchers.
>I can only assume the original cut was much worse and the hate comes from that.
it is much worse. assembly is kino.
>Aliens 3 should have taken place 20 years later with Newt as main character
Fucksake you don't have announce of creativity do you? absolutely embarrassing suggestion.
lmfao, if you're 15 maybe and like dorky shit for your feefees.
literally this, emotionally under developed soybois should stick to bog standard cliche cinema where the hero always wins and good triumphs evil, fucking faggots.
the wood planet idea was dumb. It might have worked for a completely different setting but not for Alien.
they took all the good parts of this script and made it fit the setting by combining it with the script that took place in a prison station
the fucking behind-the-scenes documentary which you should have watched already.
which is basically what happened
the theatrical cut is still good
Alien 3 isn't nihilistic, it's a movie about sacrifice, about finding meaning in death.
Ripley goes from saving herself and Jonesy, to saving herself, Hicks and Newt, to (presumably) saving humanity. Each time she becomes more altruistic after losing people she cares about.
it makes sense, it's consistent with her character, and it makes her a nice symbolic foil to the aliens who sacrifice others to survive.
not him, but a scene that was crucial in my opinion is when Ripley sees Junior (the guy who tried to rape her) sacrifice himself by baiting the alien so she can survive.
I think it's a strong moment for Ripley's character arc
Coherence, clarity, pacing and it actually makes sense "the cow instead of the dog", it pulls no punches either.
an ounce*
covert n appears.
>Alien 3 isn't nihilistic, it's a movie about sacrifice, about finding meaning in death.
It's still a nihilistic film though, everyone dies, accepts their fate and the hopelessness of their plight which is why they sacrifice in the first place, it's as nihilistic as the reality of jihad even if the jihadists believe in a higher purpose.
Except the real reason Biehn dropped out was because he wanted a bigger paycheck, and they were scaling back significantly for the third movie. He even charged them out the ass for his likeness photo.
>"the cow instead of the dog"
This is something I really hate. Why doesn't the xeno have hooves or horns? Why is it so small and agile?
Assembly Cut fixed every issue with this film. And I'm a diehard fan of the theatrical release. I just loved how gloomy and fucking creepy it felt. Always pissed me off people never gave it a fair shake because Newt and Hicks die.
The only thing I wish is that there was more concrete backstory on some of the other prisoners.
this, as we've established though mainstream movie goers especially yank faggots want their feel good fix and it didn't cater.
>lets make a horror film where 95% of the cast are deliberately scum so you feel zero sympathy when they die
this thread is about Alien 3, not about your hypothetical fanfilm
the Assembly cut isn't a director's cut, it's more of a restored version.
which is to say not nihilistic at all.
nihilism is an attitude or a belief system, it has fuckall to do with "reality"
More backstory with the prisoners. Junior saving the other prisoners to try and "atone" for attempting to rape Ripley. An ENTIRE fucking sidestory with Golic, and them actually managing to trap the alien initially.
The whole thing just rounds the movie out.
You know what really pisses me off? That this movie is so good, and David Fincher basically disowned it because Fox ran him around in fucking circles with their bullshit. Dude made a solid film, and they fucked him over with requests to change all sorts of shit. For fuck sake, the assembly cut adds 30 minutes back to the movie.
it's small and agile because
-it's a dragon
-it's a different type of threat: instead of just ambushing you or overwhelming you, it outruns you.
and it came from a cow because cows are traditional sacrificial animals. Again, this is a movie about sacrifice.
you can just assume that any xenomorph that pops out of a quadrupedal animal will look like that.
very very true
>He even charged them out the ass for his likeness photo.
To be fair that was just after he learned they had killed him off and created a lifelike dummy of him to use in the film without his consent. He didn't give them permission to use the dummy so they opted for a photo instead. Biehn talked about it in the making of documentary.
Junior is best boy
look at this smug motherfucker
No it isn't, it is literally the rejection of belief and succumbing to hopelessness with neutrality.
>and it came from a cow because cows are traditional sacrificial animals.
citation needed, i think this is a stretch tbqh, it came from a cow because what other food source would of been a believable mutation? pig? sheep? (they had no qualms making it a dog which isn't sacred at all) it's a coincidence and the fact it's only sacred in india makes it clear you're seeing ghosts unless you have a director source clarifying otherwise?
Are you okay?
>What an unbelievably infantile simplified black and white perspective you absolute mouth breather. You have the criteria i expect from disney watchers.
You MUST be trolling. There is no way you're upset about this crap. Next you're going to be pretending you didn't want the scumbag drug user in prometheus to get killed off as soon as it was obvious he was doing them.
Why the rape goggles?
who's upset? more simplified assessment "hurr if you don't agree with me you're upset", you view is puerile, unintelligent and childish.
In the event of backsplash, you need eye protection. Come on man, get with it. It's not rocket surgery.
He's a good director. Honestly if the film had a bad one I wouldn't likely say it's as bad as I think it is. I'd just treat it like a AvP films and try to avoid ever talking about it.
which isn't what Ripley (or jihadists for that matter) does. There's nothing neutral about her attitude and the way she kills herself, which is very obvious considering the religious overtones of the movie and the use of christ imagery on her.
it's not "nothing matters, might as well kill myself", it's "humanity matters, therefore I must kill myself"
As for sheep, that was planned in an earlier draft of the script, actually, I can only assume it was too cheesy for them (also sheep wouldn't be able to drag the EEV out of the sea) so they settled for the next best thing: cows. I don't fucking think it's a coincidence.
By the way I'm aware that you're an Aliens fanboy falseflagging in order to make Alien 3 fans sound like edgy kids, but it's great that you're allowing me to develop my points.
Very defensive. There's nothing wrong with being upset. I'm just saying, they're prisoners for a reason. It's implied they're all pieces of shit. I don't see why anyone would get upset about them getting offed unless the story they're involved in offers anything to form a contrary opinion of. I honestly feel worse for the dog getting killed then them.
yeah he's trolling, don't mind him. Notice how he lashes back at me even though I defend Alien 3
also notice his use of the word "kino"
>unless the story they're involved in offers anything to form a contrary opinion of.
As a matter of fact it does a lot to humanize the prisoners and make them sympathetic. Little bits of humor, rousing speeches, sad backstories, self-sacrifice, trust issues between them, lots of close-ups to capture their expressions...
they're not really good guys but they're people, not just murderers.
The only issue is that some of them are hard to tell apart.
>I honestly feel worse for the dog getting killed then them.
which is legitimate, dogs aren't bad people
top heh
>Aliens fans hate it for killing off Newt and Michael Biehn.
It makes everything you are about to watch pointless. Why should I root for anything?
Even if you can overlook that, A3 is just bleak for the sake of it. It has bad faith designs on the audience that are not acceptable. It's a miserable experience watching it.
>why should I root for anything
because Ripley's still there and because several inmates are likable.
>bleak for the sake of it
right, just like how Aliens is violent for the sake of it.
It's bleak for the sake of making Ripley more heroic. She's already proven that she's resourceful and brave, now she has to prove that she can make the ultimate sacrifice and that wouldn't be realistically possible if she still had Newt and Hicks to cling to.
Killed Newt in the very beginning, so the movie starts out super fucking depressing. Then she's stuck in this prison with a bunch of prisoners turned monks, which isn't interesting. Then the entire climax of the movie are shots of men running down tunnels with a terrible CGI alien. The ending, like the beginning, is really fucking depressing and the average viewer leaves the movie feeling like complete shit.
Also the movie just looks shitty in general.
>which isn't interesting
more interesting than space truckers
also the alien isn't CGI, it's just badly-composited greenscreen puppetry
>the movie just looks shitty
u wot m8
it looks fucking gorgeous, every shot is beautiful
largely thanks to the DP who also worked on blade runner
4 is trash kino
nice try, david
