IF they had replaced Mulder and Scully with aging ginger & literally who like they were building up to the X-files could have survived. They only make a cameo in the 1st episode.
Every other episode contradicts everything built up in the show.

I feel like tongue-in-cheek is just about the only way you COULD do X-Files in a post-9/11 world.

In order to work, X-Files needs the audience to assume that the US Government is a body that can be run competently.

That's just not a bone the audience is willing to bite anymore.

I cannot understand why people thought the new seasons would be any good. Apart from it being painfully obvious that the actors don't particularly like playing their roles (Mulder especially, he acts like he's in fucking californication), there's simply no atmosphere of mystery anymore to the show. The conspiracy and the viewer not knowing what was going on with all the ayy shit at the beginning of the show gave it a unique identity that stuck to all the MOTWs as well. There's nothing like this anymore, we know about the aliens, the conspiracies, CSM's plans and Carter keeps jerking everyone around with shitty plots and some new MOTWs as a band-aid.

Just put it to rest already, it's my favourite show but it should've died at season 7 or earlier.
