Just about every interaction he had with Caleb was done to further draw him in to the experiment or to draw information from him. I thought a lot of it seemed quite endearing on the surface and he made me uncomfortable as a character.

Yeah because the experiments over and he. Caleb had no more use for him at that point and no reason to treat him pleasantly, further cementing his psycho status.
