JSA Storytime: Zenith

Good evening owls,

where the fuck in phase 3 were we?

we're...we're gonna start at the first file in the folder, yeah

...

Deathstroke needs to be biweekly again ;_;

...

I am so behind on that

and everything

also I mjölnir'd my thumb joint today and it's really starting to hurt

Prieststroke is like the only book I actually read monthly now

I liked biweekly to begin with but stuff got mediocre or I missed a week or two here and there and gave up on it

I remember liking WW and Nightwing but stopped after like 10 issues

...

sorry we skipped an extra day but I was tired

...

We missed ya Thursday, OP.

We were talking about WW last time, it definitely reads better in trade.

Nightwing I'm still reading because I'm a Dickfag but GOD does it meander. Arcs feel like they just go way past their welcome. Last few have been better though, getting on with it faster.

I feel like half the time reading recent comics I'm just doing this:

HI OP

I can only somewhat blame the hangover

HI user

Either it's obvious that Seeley didn't want to Bludhaven arcs or Bludhaven is cursed to mediocrity.

I think it's this very unfortunate thing wherein Blüdhaven (and christ that's a ridiculous umlaut) is a Known Quantity and as Seeley hinted at, Dick is ridden pretty hard, so there's not enough room to be interesting

Zenith is ready for the /d/

Y'know I really think Invisibles was Morrison's best thing and this is like proto-Invisibles.

Nightwing is the first time I'm actually following a Dick Grayson book and I think it's enjoyable. I don't think i have as high expectations for it as a cape book? The fact that it does have some restraints from higher ups makes me forgive it some but I wish that something more interesting came out of writing under those conditions

he could have better villains.

ps Hi Thread!

...

Nightwing has always struggled with memorable villains, desu

You know, that reminds me of just how good it is that Johnny Sorrow was Geoff Johns' invention

BTW this dude is totally Odin/Wotan imagery

I think he did a better job of anyone to date at making Bludhaven feel different from Gotham. It felt a lot like Atlantic City, where the casinos and the boardwalk are the center of everything.

But a big part of that is also the art being great and the lovely neon cityscapes.

I dunno, I honestly love everything about the run except the plots.

I wonder if one of the things he got ridden for was the subplot with Shawn. I knew the pregnancy wasn't going to pan out but I was hoping it would because Dick desperately needs SOMETHING to shake his life up that's not just endless drama between him and Barbara.

>he could have better villains.
Tell me about it. Slade, James Jr, and Pyg are the only decent ones he's faced on teams/solos and they got absorbed into others' rogue galleries lmao

I am anti-DickBabs because honestly right now he's too good for her, but I'm gonna be salty about where she's been regressed to

Atlantic City is obviously what's meant but it's rarely mined deeply enough

>I think he did a better job of anyone to date at making Bludhaven feel different from Gotham
This is something I'll commend him for since I've always bitched about Bludhaven being "Gotham but worse somehow".

And yeah I agree the plots are the worst parts. And Shawn. He should've just dated the gay cowboy instead.

>Grant gets going on the metaphysical bullshit

I prefer to think of current Babs,as real Babs' teenage counterpart from an alternate timeline.

Whether good or bad this is actually the best joke in the whole thing and the only one I laughed out loud at.

I know she really really really works right now for someone I know who's much younger, but I'm old and mean, so not for me.

has anyone taken over that old role? batwoman?

Seeley was trying to make Blockbuster less of a generic Gotham gangster this time with him actually caring about the city but I think he dropped the ball on that too.

Raptor was clearly who he wanted to push but he's honestly boring as fuck.

On Twitter Humphries was asked if he was DickBabs or DickFire and he was like "lol no comment".

Part of me thinks Dick being such a slut is almost a good thing because it gives him a character flaw but part of me just finds it super annoying at this point.

I haven't been reading Batwoman although I can see her maybe hitting some of the "not a fucking 20-something and competent" buttons

They both KNOW how fucking insane the fanbase is

It honestly wouldn't matter what he did, Blockbuster is just a shittier Kingpin.

And speaking of Raptor, I find it interesting how he was in Deathstroke.

Hey OP.

I've got too many storytimes open! I'm trying to catch up on the Avengers, the massive backlog of Great X-Men I have, X-user's Black Science, and now this!

Dick shippers are the absolute worst. Especially since Dick is clearly meant to be with grumpy old men

HI

I am, as always, a little bit slow tonight. The bones are creaky.

Ah yes, the Crisis part of Zenith. Good shit, OP.

This is where we'd have ought to have started.

let's just say someone kind of remembers vaguely where we left off and that's how it went

...

Goddang, Need to catch up

Is that a Seaguy prototype?

HI DAVE

we should be back Halloween unless I have to do candy duty, but not before then

I did not expect some Invisibles references in the second season of [spoilers]Stranger Things[/spoilers]

It's at this point, the other people in the CoIE metateam decide that Zenith is expendable, because he's an ass.

Ah fuck it, I'm phone posting and that isn't even a spoiler, just text on a wall

IAWTC

Hey, anyone have any particular remedies they like for dry skin on the hands, because it's getting the bad season for it. I'm interested in anything I don't know about

...

This page would probably have read better had he not written it high.

SUCK IT, HICKMAN

Awesome to hear.
Running Moore's Lovecraft Saga that night.

...

Zenith is cute senpai. He's an ideal fuckboy.

This reminds me- You'd meant to link that OHOTMU Appendix style page for these characters you got last thread.

>Cenobite Batman making separate specialized death trap Batcaves for the Justice League

Metal is fucking great

>tfw Namorfag killed a storytimer
When will his rampage end?

DUSTY OLD BONES
FULL OF GREEN BONES

oh shit did I bookmark it?

I was pretty fucking drunk by the end of last storytime

shit, I don't see it

this is someone's ageplay kink

What booze would you like for Xmas OP?

?

if you can find anyone who imports Vana Tallinn to the US these days, that's top tier

I didn't expect Cannonball to get arrested and deported for Cocaine because of the second season of Stranger Things.

"shazzie"?

I didn't know you drank rum. I'll have a look.

Man, shock of the century, Heaton being on the kicaine

What a fucking idiot. How the fuck do you try to smuggle cocaine into fucking LA?

>He died, poor Jimmy, boo hoo, bringing the tape through

Wait, is Maximan already possessed? Or did Sarcasm work differently on his Earth?

it's a rum-based liqueur, it's got this kind of vanilla/spicy thing going on

and it's out of Estonia, so pretty niche product!

another alternative would be 'salmiakki koskenkorva' and yes it really is that color and yes it is what it says it is

"Shit"

He's pretty fucked up

Wait, is that what happened to PM-IF user?

TY TRANSLATOR

the US and UK are truly separated by a common language

I, sadly, have no ear for telling apart UK accents, but I love this:

youtube.com/watch?v=EX98LGnvc1E

(I can barely fucking follow this)

D:

Well, I am Scottish so I'm indecipherable to most of the UK and all Americans think I'm English anyway.

Sorry user, but anything to post this classic
youtube.com/watch?v=osjUBFesIhA

>Zenith and the Fetish Brigade

He is less ready for /d/ than you thought, OP.

I like to think we can usually kiiind of tell Scots apart largely thanks to Craig Ferguson, but...those northern accents get hard, you know? That's fair, right?

I, apparently, have an unplaceable accent because in France several people from the UK refused to believe I was American and a dude in Munich thought I was French.

(I am sure it is broadly American)

My mother has a true East Texas drawl, which I can approximate but not do

(the bit at the end of that YT vid with 'Scouses and Germans' is amazing)

>Sped up calliope music

Ah, good choice to weird people out, Miss Demonstarr.

Colin Mochrie is a national treasure.
The new, Aisha Tyler Whose Line is not near as good as the UK or Drew Carey versions.

My mother has a very strong Long Island accent, when we moved to Texas people thought she was Jewish because they had never heard that before.

Check out Henning Wehn OP.

there's a NEW version????

American WL never got close to original in terms of just delightful weirdness

yes, I know, I'm old, late 90s Comedy Central was awesome

Yeah. On The CW.

It wasn't as bad as the CW's reboot of Madtv though.

You know, what I got linked to today was "Bill and Ted auf deutsch" which I 1) need the time to roll in 2) need to be insanely drunk to even approach

Unfortunately, colloquial speech is something I am shit at. My roomies made fun of me for sounding very 19th century.

Yeah it came on a few years back on the CW.

It's more formulaic, IMO, with much more use of the same games, and a celebrity guest every episode who gets used twice per episode.

fuck that shit

No moderator has also ever been as awesomely, cooly sadistic as Clive

Drew's a big dumb puppy in comparison

True. Then again Drew's WL was all about being that family time show.

...

>My roomies made fun of me for sounding very 19th century.

You listen to too much Wagner, Frau OP.

ACTUALLY, my education in die deutsche Sprache being far too much Wagner and Hofmannsthal was quite the problem for sounding like someone remotely of the now, yes

I still continually use the word 'Weib' which is VERY not of the now :(

Also, Drew's Line Is It Anyway was Drew taking his mad ABC cred and getting the channel to import a show he liked and which gave one of his costars/friends more work.

It wasn't as Britishly mean, but it was still a whole lot more quality buffoonery.

...

That explains pretty everyone who was on it. And yeah it was very vaudevillian.

Right, it's just that if you were an oldfan like me you really had to change your goggles, but it wasn't an unworthly venture by any means, and it was great to see some old vets of the original get more work on there

Agree that Colin Mochrie is a treasure.

wait do we have some canadafags here?

>springheeled jock

youtube.com/watch?v=oUKqEl8nzuM

Seriously, the second season of the Drew Carey Show was one of ABC's biggest hits in ages, so they basically gave him a huge contract and let him do whatever he wanted, which happened to include telling them to make more of that show Ryan Styles used to be on in the UK.

...
