What you left out, and what makes this one of the all time great stories, is that he was presented as a national hero during his lifetime. Raising all that money for the kids, hosting TV shows, getting knighted and being chummy with Charles and Diana.
As someone outside the UK who never heard of Savile until the allegations hit, it was remarkable and hilarious to see an entire country come to terms with the fact that an obviously creepy individual turned out to be really creepy.
Well from the sounds of it Savile wasn't a true pedophile. He was merely willing to molest kids out of dedication to being an evil edgelord. So I imagine a worse person would be just like him but prefers to rape 8 year old girls and boys over teenagers.

Well the first documentary that Louis did was apart of a series he was on. This was also in 2000, so Louis was a lot closer to his documentaries that were lighter in tone. Looking back at it you can see how Jimmy was able to operate the way he did. The way he seemingly always had a mask on and how he conducted his business with people.

Savile wasn't necessarily himself all that popular, but he managed to get himself into a lot of popular programming. He started in the music shows, like Top of the Pops, which were massively successful, but that's largely due to people wanting to see the bands, not him, or anyone else for that matter. But from there he became something of "a face," so he got a ton of other stuff off the back of it, most notably Jim'll Fix It, which was a very popular children's show, though it must be said that that was mostly down to the format (kids write in to have their wishes granted by Jim, e.g. "Can you fix it for me to meet Muhammad Ali?") than to personality. I don't know if many people could name a whole lot else that he actually "did" outside of that, but he became a bit of a notable TV figure who showed up every now and then on the back of those shows. It helped that they were both very long-running series. I would summarise it that he wasn't necessarily a "popular" figure - I don't know anyone who liked him even when he was alive - but he was a very well-known figure, and one who knew how to play that system with the higher-ups at the BBC and other establishments.
