I did a botched land invasion of an alien planet (that had early space flight level technology) in a game of Stellaris once. Mostly because I was incompetent and underestimated how much of a cake walk it would be being so technologically superior, but having no specialized space marine force for ground conquest ready.
The point was to take over and enslave the planet, not orbitally bombard it. Building up enough of a pop base on the homeworld to recolonize a planet takes time senpai.

Well I'm not really a fan of sheen but "The Arrival" was probably my favorite alien film. It was more of a thriller than a battlefield earth kinda thing, good suspense not a lot of whacky scifi stuff and corny action.
