i liked it. i liked admiral holdo and the porgs. the casino act was pretty good too

It was bad. Without Rose + Casino subplot, it could have been mediocre. If Rian had given half a shit about any of the groundwork that JJ tried to lay, maybe it could have been good

>another Star Wars thread
what attracts manchildren to this franchise?

Didn't JJ already have a script but Disney was so blown away by Rian's that they gave it to him?

That makes it seem like JJ must have had something mediocre planned.

The criticism they got about TFA "playing safe" must have gotten to them.

The Last Jedi is the best Star Wars since Empire as long as you separate the film from pol culture. People who hate it force their own perspective of time and cultural vantage point, but from a purely narrative and franchise-insular point of view, it is leagues better than the prequels and TFA. 18 year olds, however, rarely have the capability to separate their egocentric worldview from a piece of art, so I can't really blame you for it. Your brain just doesn't have the proper wiring yet.

My ranking is Attack of the Clones > The Last Jedi > Phantom Menace.

Attack of the Clones is still worse, TLJ is trash though

clones IS better

out of all of those the porgs were the bestest

>no single shred of narrative consistency, zero internal logic
>every event relies on coincidence to drive characters toward set pieces that poorly ape previously iconic scenese but with le twist
>no tonal consistency
>no sense of adventure
>baldfaced preaching to the audience about war profiteering that will not age well
> reversal of character arcs from its direct prequel
>set and costume design that looks like doctor fucking who
>no convincing villains
>no iconic music
>characters constantly saved by asspull ex machina to the extreme rather than their own competence or ingenuity
This movie is an absolute shit heap and is only loved by the current "game of thrones, oh em gee whos gonna die next, so shocking" cultural zeitgeist type critics. This movie had no identity as a starwars film, clearly had no basis in the same kind of pulp science fiction, westerns, or samurai films that inspired the first 6 and partially the 7th.
Killed the interest i had in the movies as a lifelong fan, and killed the interest of my parents who had been fans since the fucking 70s.

The Last Jedi is one dumb scene after another. Rei should have had her head cut off in this scene. The imperial guard and Rei were at a stalemate, both trying to push the other back. Rei letting go to make a retarded "cool" move would have resulted in the imperial guard continuing his momentum and slicing his blade through Rei's neck. Instead, we got the imperial guard just stand there like a doofus to get killed in a manner only befitting a poorly choreographed fan movie.

its called movie fighting
its not like real fights

Well, I think his point is that even the most basic shit they got wrong. The respected the audience and fans so much they didnt give a fuck that the movie was filled with dumb shit like that.

are you from cinemasins?

>the imperial fleet is overhead
>the rebels sneak off through a secret back door
>the imperials could very simple put a perimeter around the base and search the area to find the rebels while the flee overhead makes sure no ships are able to leave the planet

>ships flying into other ships at lightspeed is absolutely devastating
>for some reason, the support ships don't turn around and lightspeed into the imperial ships once they are almost out of fuel instead of just being blown up

>yoda appears because remember yoda
>oh, and he can summon lightning from the sky while he is dead because yoda

But they are still playing safe, this movie was empire strikes back with minor changes

>"I AM EXTREMELY UPSET THAT RIAN JOHNSON SUBVERTED MY EXPECTATIONS"
You mean expecting him to make a good movie?

No, is called shitty movie fighting

Just because expectations were subverted doesn’t make it good. It only means you did something diffrent. And was the diffrent thing good?

No. It wasn’t

>there is only one man in the galaxy who can hack the sheild
>you there, character who's entire plot line less than a week ago in episode 7
>take a ship, off of the ship that is being chased by a fleet
>and secretly fly (yes, you pilot now) to this planetwide casino to find one single man
>and take this random fat useless mechanic character on your secret mission
>you somehow accomplished this thing that is entirely impossible for 20 different reasons, moments away from accomplishing your goal you will be captured for a parking ticket
>but wait, an equally skilled hacker is literally randomly in the same cell as you
>and he is skilled enough to not only break you out, but also to accomplish the extremely impossible hack you thought only one man in the galaxy was capable of, and also steal a ship and locate you faster than the cops do on your rodeo ride
Jesus tittyfucking christ.

>crashes into your ship, moments before you destroy the superweapon
>consequently destroys your defences
>would inarguably cause you and the rest of the rebels to be slaughtered after the imperials got into the base
>"I saved you"

Kylo's fight was good. Rei's fight was awful.

>starts a mutiny
>would cause everyone to die if he wasn't stopped
>"he is such a hothead, i love him"

From a franchise insular point of view, the last jedi doubles down on the ruining of the jedi. Here is a fact that isn't often mentioned: we haven't seen any act like a jedi in any of these sequels. Luke doesn't act anything like a jedi and calls for them to end. Rey acts like a Sith to be, with her obsessed with Ren and assaulting Luke from behind, and no one wants to see her pretend to be a jedi later on. There have been no real lightsaber battles with a jedi in any of the sequels either, only a fight with an unarmed scavenger, and an illusionary non-fight that didn't even happen.
