PUNISHER STORYTIME
All this year I'll be storytiming Punisher comics. Most of them will be pre-Ennis era material, but there'll be 1 or 2 Ennis era stories as well. Except at least 1 storytime per week.
Over the weekend I storytimed the continuing adventures of Lynn Michaels (among other characters) during the aftermatch of Suicide Run, which was just a really complicated time in Punisher comics in general. Unbelievably, the thread is somehow still up. You can read it over here: >>/96393326
Today, we're going to be a reading a Punisher HALLOWEEN storytime!
There are basically only 2 "halloween appropriate" Punisher stories from the 90s. One of these is the "ghost Punisher era", which is absolute fucking garbage. The other is a miniseries from the early 90s called "P.O.V." (as an aside, I've always considered this one of the worst Punisher story titles EVER). There's also Frankencastle, but this one is MUCH less well known (and in my opinion better), so P.O.V. it is!
One thing both this and ghost Punisher have in common (and the only thing worth shit about the latter) is that both were drawn by legendary horror illustrator Bernie Wrightson, who's most known for his work on Swamp Thing in the 70s and for designing the concept art for the movie Ghost Busters (he also did a comic book adaptation of Frankenstein, which I highly recommend EVERYONE read tonight, but I don't have the time to storytime it myself, so if that happens then someone else is going to have to do it). So the art in this, needless to say, is fucking GORGEOUS. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that this might be the single best looking Punisher comic ever made.
The script is by Jim Starlin, of Dreadstar and cosmic Marvel fame. He only ever wrote 2 Punisher stories, this and another mini called "Ghosts of Innocents".
So all of you looking for a halloween storyime, GET IN HERE AND READ THIS! AND KEEP IT BUMPED BECAUSE THIS IS GOING TO BE A LONG ONE!
