Okay so, you guys are all massive fucking plebs. Porco Rosso is Ghibli's best, but Kiki, Mononoke and Nausicaa (if it counts) are acceptable answers as well. Whisper of the Heart is a great movie, but it doesn't have the power of Porco or Mononoke, and Only Yesterday is just a very mediocre film; Isao Takahata is a very angry man, and the film obviously portrays his anger towards his country very clearly, and is traditionally well written, however it lacks punchyness and real artistry, and it is clear that it is more of a piece of propaganda than a real film that had any pure intent behind it.

Angel's Egg is about rejection of faith, and Oshii also totally understands that. Also even if he didn't, it wouldn't matter, the film would still be about that. How could you possibly be so much of a pleb?
cmon dude its not even as good as the show. the ending is solid but leaves you feeling incredibly empty, and not in like a powerful way. Considering Shinji's realization is supposed to be beautiful I find no beauty in the way that it's portrayed outside of the shots with Yui. The fights and animation are fantastic, and the musical sequence with Third Impact is magical ofc, but overall as a film it leaves a lot to be desired. Still really good though.

I like Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. Never seen Nausicaa. But I like Spirited the best with Porco as a close second. I just love all the characters in the movie.
Nausicaa is a pretty great movie, you should check it out. Not as good as Mononoke but very competent. I've really never been into Spirited Away, even as a little kid, I found it boring and tasteless, in reflection in the past few years, I've found it to be a really solid film on a technical level, but I still find very little about it interesting or emotionally valuable.

Spirited Away is great, but Anime doesn't begin or end with its existence.
I prefer Nausicaa to Mononoke.
The best part of both movies are the colors and backgrounds and Nausicaa uses this to its advantage.
It only has the most bare-bones and basic of stories to serve as a vehicle of exploring the setting and it is concise and clear.
Mononoke is overly bloated and pointless.
