You Were Never Really Here

Go see this. You'll enjoy it even more without seeing a trailer.

Comparisons with Taxi Driver and Drive but it stands on it's own and adds something new to the genre.

Here's the director talking about it which reveals less scenes and spoilers.

Where'd you see it? It's not coming out until next week

>Odeon, Liverpool. United Kingdom.
it's been getting shown for about a week and run ends tomorrow

shame lynne ramsay is so sporadic, she's great

I thought it was fine. The aspect of it trying to get into his psyche didn't work so much for me. The art-house b-movie thing it's going for is good. I just wished they'd gone all in on it and left that other aspect out of it because there are times when it becomes a meandering mess.

She basically committed career suicide a few years back - she was signed on to direct that Western movie with Natalie Portman, got all the way through pre-production, and then she just didn't show up for the shoot.

I agree though, everything I've seen from her was really good

god her voice is fucking grating
fantastic movie tho

sounds like something I'd do to be honest, that's how I've quit most creative jobs. disable notifications and sleep for 18 hours knowing people will be screaming your name.

Eh, I'd much rather her continue to make shit like Ratcatcher and Morvern Callar than bigger more high profile stuff.

Is this going on Amazon prime ?

I didn't see the movie, but by all accounts it was mediocre shit. And supposedly one of the head producers is a known scumbag, but I don't remember the details. She probably made the right move

She was supposed to do Jane Got a Gun? She made the right choice.

this felt very intimate and personal. character lives with his mum

probably yeah still not use to seeing that Amazon logo appear in the cinema

I saw the trailer and it makes me think of Hotline Miami in some way.

Looks neat though, will definitely see it in theaters when I can.

>mediocre shit
go back to your avenger threads. jonathan ames is someone a few people on here are probably already familar with, he did an excellent graphic novel called The Alcoholic and the HBO series Bored to Death was his work

I was referring to this movie. ramsay was supposed to direct it but was a no-show at the beginning of the shoot. YWNRH looks good to me

Saw it a week ago, it's shit. Nothing like the films it's been compared to. It could have been on the level of taxi driver or drive, but instead it's ruined by absolutely awful directorial decisions. It's a good story marred by every scene being impactless for art's sake, and it makes every scene worthless and all action dull.

Expect a bunch of montages with zero sense of narrative or explanation.Theres a continuing theme of suicide which has zero fucking impact on the story, so instead you've got about 10 minutes of the fucking movie that doesn't need to be there.

This is the biggest artistic wank on screen since Mother!, but at least Mother! actually has a decent amount of thought behind the thematics and direction. You were never really here is a play on words because everyone in the audience falls asleep.

look at this sensitive little bitch

>beautiful
>taxi driver for a new century
>and your other cab
jesus christ will they stop already

While I didn't hate the movie as much as this user, I agree with a lot of this.

Oh shit, Jonathan Ames.

I tried watching Bored To Death expecting something more noir-like, but I liked what I saw nonetheless. The Jim Jarmusch ep made me giggle.

>HBO series Bored to Death was his work
Man this guy is great at making his titles reflect his work.
