It's not being political or not, it's just that the first half Tambourine was fairly predictable, whearas Chappelle can do 2 hours on current events and not sound like every other comedian.
Case in point, the whole Bill Cosby bit. No other comedian, except maybe Patrice would take that angle and run with it.

The anti-white stuff was not creative, it wasn't funny, and it wasn't insightful or even true. Chappelle because he has humor outside of black and white people do this. He is hilarious when describing a story or putting on a character.
Interestingly enough I remember Chappelle saying he got more success with white audiences or mixed audiences when he did standup. I saw an older standup of him in front of a black audience and it was kind of lukewarm.

dave's recent bunch of netflix specials are amongst the best ever recorded in my opinion
chris rocks stuff has aged poorly and if you hear him in general conversation, he's not even nearly in chappelle's league as just a funny dude in general.
patrice o'neal was on chappelle's level as a dude and nearly as a stand-up and if he didn't die from being a fat cunt, his next special after elephant in the room would've been incredible
