This is not only Lynch's greatest film (and that's saying something) but easily one of the greatest films of all time (if not *the* greatest). Also one of the highest achievements of surrealist art in history, at the same level of importance as Dali, Ernst, and Bosch's best works. Here Jungian psychoanalysis, film noir, b-movies, soap operas, eastern karmic philosophy, horror, mystery, and postmodern deconstructionism (media, identity, sexuality) all find the most unlikely yet transcendental unison. "Lost Highway" is self-aware on a multitude of levels. The film constantly teeters on the edge of breaking the fourth wall, or rather it in fact does relentlessly, but on a purely subliminal level. There's a sense of infinite deja vu throughout. The result, while utterly haunting and nightmarish, is highly spiritual - we realize we are all traveling souls on the "lost highway" in the cryptic puzzle of life, in a constant cycle of waking sleep.

This is self-parody, right?
>one of the highest achievements of surrealist art in history
That i can agree with, particularly in the scope of modern cinema. Surrealist movies as effective as this one can be counted on a single hand and even then they're mostly from Lynch himself, because honestly there's nearly no competition when it comes down to surrealism.
Now claiming anything is GOAT is always asking for trouble. Eye of the beholder and all that...And Lynch would never make such a claim btw.
Lynch would never post on Sup Forums as well though
What's with critics calling Lost Highway tryhard but jizzing all over Mulholland Drive?
They are basically the same thing. If anything Lost Highway is more straighforward.
kek. that goes without saying, Lynch has access to more than just Sup Forums if he needs to make a statement you know.
also for no reason other than this is cool:

Mulholland Drive seems a lot more polished and critic-friendly. Lost Highway is pulpy and rough around the edges
Critics are fucking mess. I miss Kael.
agreed. Even their soundtracks are like that. MD is mellow slow and melodic. LH is heavy, in your face, raw. One is mostly in major key, while the other is mostly in minor key. Major key is always more seductive for most.
>I just like driving my car alone at night... on this Lost Highway™
God I hate these namedrops
>Henry, you're such an Eraserhead™
Fucking hack.
Very underrated movie, i agree with you.
Definitely the best movie in 90s... Or at least top3.
Any film with Bill Pullman as the star can never be categorized with terminology such as 'best as', 'greatest'. Hes a non actor, the opposite of an actor. A piece of furniture would describe him more aptly.
That's fucking crazy, man.
well, surreal furniture is seriously a major part in the first third of lost highway lol
kino
I know and he still gets work!
Lmao, good casting then.
the nu metal of lynch
I'm far from being a Pullman fan user. But he wasn't bad in LH, fuck this is leagues better than Independence day or Spaceballs or whatever shit he's ever done. He was fake as fuck in the sax scenes though I gotta say. Odd casting for Lynch for sure but I don't see why he's to be particularly blamed for anything. Then again I like LH a lot so yeah I'm biased I guess.
Like I don't know let's imagine LH with any other actor in Pullman's role. What changes? Honestly. Would it be better with a Deep or a Norton or whoever? I don't think it would matter that much, the movie (it's script, it's cinematography, it's ost, etc..) is the real star not it's actors imo.
Is this pasta?
Those werent half as bad as the scene where john merrick goes to the zoo
>Did you see when that huge Elephant, Man™
Fair enough, he's a furniture polish level above Andy Garcia I'll give you that.
Your post is cool but desu I don't rate Lynch that much, he just about gets away with things rather than me going oo wow that really made me think. A hipster director. But I don't begrudge anyone from loving his stuff.
you're not wrong about the furniture angle. I completely get what you mean. the only actor I would have been interested in seeing in his role would have been MacLachlan for obvious reasons. That would have probably elevated the whole thing, then again he was busy banging Linda Evangelista and shooting Showgirl at the time..fucking kek.
>MacLachlan
Yeah good idea, that guy should have been in well more stuff, he's an interesting actor.
Ah yea Showgirls- lel, guess he's been busy.
I think I agree. It is definitely massively underrated.
