I'm a spic and I had no idea who the fuck Lorenzo Lamas was.

El Renegado

Meap (Phineas & Ferb)

In the Arabic dub of The Loud House, Clyde's white dad is a woman.

Some dubs also change the unseen therapist Dr. Lopez to a man.

...

>Mis placas conmemorativas de Apolonio Quiosco!

>"You're father was a brilliant scientist."

Also Luke Perry appeared in one whole of the early episodes and the dub kept calling him Robert Redford

In Latin American we bare bears is called "escandaloso"
Escandaloso- scandalous, outrageous
Oso- bear

Most of the early 2000s Dreamworks movies were chock-full of polish cultural references in the dubbed versions. Many were even shoved where there weren't originally ones.

Rory Calhoun became tennis player Boris Becker in the german dub. Which is stupid because even americans don't know Rory Calhoun.

Latin dub had Don King

In the Mexican dub, Muriel thinks this guy directed "Nosotros los pobres."

A lot in Italian. Especially in The Simpsons basically every secondary character has a strong regional accent. Willy’s is so strong (and funny) that in some episodes they changed it so that he’s from Sardinia instead of scotland.

A couple of interesting one from Futurama: the Werecar wasn’t literally translated and maybe because of a translation error was made as “The car that was”

Also the “arms” in “Robot arms apts” are referenced as actual arms and not working class robots.

Aku became "Abu" in Brazil because "cu" is a slang therm for "anus" in portuguese

Homer's Rapping tomato poem was mistranslated as rapist tomato in Russia.

wtf

In portuguese Aku sounds just like "a cu" that translate to "an asshole" so we ot it changed to Apu

youtube.com/watch?v=d8xoTBZrzko

They also changed Dooku from Star Wars to Dookan for the same reason

Not Sup Forums, but the Grim Fandango Brazilian dub replaced Robert Frost for Sherlock Holmes. Probably because he's the only reference we got to a guy who smokes a pipe.

Makes sense an arab would like tlh

...

Oh yeah, I remember mocking "conde dou o cu" when episode II came out

They could had used Jon Arbuckle

But he IS an asshole.

The prequels had a Captain Panaka, Count Dooku and a Jedi Master called Sifo-Dyas. Someone was having a secret giggle while coming up with those names.

sifo-dyas is literally "fuck himself"

In the Portugal dub of Dragon Ball:
>Teen Gohan was nicknamed "Garoto Minduim" by the narrator (translating to "The Peanut Boy") for some reason
>Vegeta was the butt of gay jokes
>They would often poke fun of Pokemon for sharing a timeslot in a rival channel
>They would often make refferences to shows from SiC (the channel it used to air)
>Dodoria was an opera singer
>Goku calls one of Babidi's lackies "Miss Portugal 95"
>They would poke fun at the show's pacing, with Goku once saying "I would be worried, but then I remember it takes like 10 episodes for the show to arrive anywhere"

So it's like an abridged series?

>Goku calls one of Babidi's lackies "Miss Portugal 95"
Kek, which one?

In the TV Tokyo dub of X-Men:
>There were additional commercial scenes post-credits where the characters would play X-Men: Children of the Atom on the Sega Saturn.
>Wolverine would enter Josuke tardrage whenever someone talked shit about his hair
>Rogue would often switch to a "moe" ecchi voice with sexual innuendo when she absorbed someone's powers
>Beast often made japanese word puns
>The show added jokes related to japanese culture such as Takeshi Kitano, SMAP and even the variety show Downtown
>Gambit was portrayed with a Spike Spiegel vibe.

>Dodoria was an opera singer
I saw that.

Typical crap "oso" pun.
What do they call the bears? Do they use " Oso de Hielo" or something?

youtube.com/watch?v=cyNBnBNc56Q
MasakoX made a video about it in his channel if some of you guys are interested.

Also, there's a clip of Vegeta singing the song "Robocop gay" by brazilian band Mamonas Assassinas done by his voice actor that was played during one of those portuguese variety shows on SiC.
Worth mentioning; Piccolo was renamed to "Satan's Little Heart"...Yeah...

He was in the renegade and a couple other shows and movies iirc. I THINK he was in a zoro remake but I could be confusing him with someone else.

Germany has _strong_ anti violence laws, in no small part due to the ww2 treaty signed.

All TF2 characters for example are all robots and all human violence was changed to be against robots or the death animations were changed up until 2016 when germany got a surprisingly uncensored Doom.

Polar, Pardo and Panda

Some brazilian dub funfacts:

>Due to a fuck-up, the Super Soldier serum was renamed the Super Solid serum in the 90s Spider-Man cartoon
>In the 60s Spider-Man; J.Jonah Jameson was renamed "Mr. Jaime", Peter Parker was "Pedro Pessoa" and New York was changed to Rio de Janeiro
>Similarly, the first Batman comics ever translated had Bruce Wayne named "Bruno Miller" and Gotham City "Sugar River Valley"
>All references to Brazil in the Simpsons were kept to a minimum due to an outrage from the goverment and some folks regarding the episode they went to Rio.
>The moose from Zootopia were changed to Cheetahs and one of them were voiced by a reporter from "Band News"
>The Incredibles' surname were changed to "Pera" which means "Pear" as a pun towards their original surname. Also, Mr.Incredible and Jack-Jack had the names "Beto" and "Zezé"

>Pardo
That's how you actually translate "grizzly" in Spanish, right? Cuz I forget.

>Sugar River Valley
DC need to officially Gotham's name to this immediately.

Yeah, or you just leave it as "oso grizzly"

>All TF2 characters for example are all robots

Wait, how did the MvM update work for them then?

Quite cute, all of them starting with the same letter, like how the Powerpuff Girls were named Bombón, Burbuja & Bellota.

You mean petalo burbuja and cactus

Jack white's name was changed to José Novero in the Latino dub
youtube.com/watch?v=FMNAKMSxFlY

>t. manolo

Super Intendent Chalmers was renamed into Inspector Archúndia and the steamed hams were renamed "hamburguejas al vapor", funny enough clams are called almejas in Spanish.

youtube.com/watch?v=bvbOCMh8lfg

>"Don't you have dreams?"
>"My dream is to have my pompadour well-combed" -Armando Barreda
youtu.be/pEvfftG3zCQ

Also the Yugioh translator who didn't knew the difference between Moth (mariposa) and Mouth (boca).
youtube.com/watch?v=pbYqd4Espkw

> the Super Soldier serum was renamed the Super Solid serum
Captain viagra.
"I'm loyal to nothing except this boner"

Pip in the Latino dub of South Park was turned into a Spaniard.

Also, Mr. Hankey is called Señor Mojón, and in the first Christmas episode, when they're making fun of Hanukkah, instead of saying Jews get dreidels for presents, they get disembodied foreskins. And Mr. Garrison is racist against the Chinese instead of Mexicans.

In the BR dub, Dora the Explorer teaches English instead of Spanish

This

Kek

But Disney Channel/Toon Disney japan did its own dub.

>german opening
>its in english

Hamburguejas al vapor is such a good translation.

In the german dub instead of Harold Flower Mr Krabs calls himself Benjamin Blümchen (roughly translating to Benjamin Floret), a well-known german children's icon who shares his voice actor with Mr Krabs.
German Grim Fandango has something similiar. Manny's german voice actor also did Alf, so whenever they talk about cats in Rubacava Manny mentions how tasty they are

idk,i was thinking its some sort of a joke

>Lorenzo lamas
>Not macho machine
Big mistake

ROBOTS FOR EVERYONE~

Zabuza's sword in the german dub is invisible and when it cuts people it doesn't hurt them, it takes away their will to fight.

also, the Uchiha clan wasn't killed, they just "disappeared" after Itachi "defeated"

"He was raping me from april to may?"

...

Wait what? I read that Pyrovision was forcibly enabled for everyone.

This is amv tier trash.

Uter turned swiss in the german dub. Imho it worked pretty good

Translating wordplay must be a bitch

Like translating songs and retaining the rhyme scheme

On the other hand, there are TONS of instances where Ivar Combrinck seemed to have lost his grasp of the English language, especially in Futurama.

„Träne im Raum-Zeit-Gefüge“, Jesus Christ...

The guy at Crunchyroll who had to translate Heybot probably went insane afterwards.

No. Since forever every body simply explodes into the misc stuff instead of blood.

But it looks and acts like Richard Simmons.

The TF2 characters still look like people, they just bleed oil and explode into coils, rubber ducks, tricycles and other debris instead of gibs.
The MvM robots look like robots.

Snake Eater was fucking awesome

Ho ho ho! Die beiden Begriffe bringe ich immer durcheinander.

I don't know how you could this be done better. Ivar was hit or miss.

Dr. Nick has a booth in one episode that reads "What's your sex?" or something like that. Combrinck didn't spot that Nick is a clueless hack and translated it as "Ask Dr.Nick about your sex life".

Also, guest voice actors would use the well-known german dub VA in almost every case. A prominent exception is Mark Hamill in "Mayored to the Mob", even though Hans-Georg Panczak, Luke Skywalker's VA since forever, already voices Smithers on the show.

For non-German speakers, Chief Wiggum confusing DOA with DWI became him confusing drowned with drunk.

Otto from the Simpsons was called “Busman” in Italy cuz Otto is Italian for 8

I heard that at least in one non-english version, Gideon mentions his therapist telling him he had "unchecked rage and aggression" as a kid which stemmed from his self-doubt. His apology in English used words and concepts someone like him wouldn't normally use, so he got professional help one way or another.

There's also the different newscasters used for different parts of the world.

Too bad you can't see Japans balls. No furry.

Downtown is a duo of comedians and have tons of TV shows to their name.

A whole lot of jokes and scenes were very different in aqua teen and sealab 2021 in the pt-br dub.

Which wasn't a bad thing at all, the voice actors are competent, and the jokes were good.

Sounds more like Abu than Apu, honestly.

Wait, grim fandango had a huelander dub? Never knew that, how was the quality of it?

Not Sup Forums but the brazilian dub of yu yu hakusho was almost like an ambridged series with Yusuke's lines sometimes, he would use outdated street slangs that had nothing to do whith what he said in japanese and it was so fucking funny

That was one of the best things about the hue dub of yuyu hakusho

On the same vein, one punch man's brazilian dub (its on neflix last time i checked) did pretty much the same thing, and its really funny too

>watching anything dubbed
you deserve this

I didn't even have access to cartoons in english back in the 90's it was dubbed shows or no shows at all

>they can airbrush out the blade but not make the pole longer and attached to the tree as to make sense

>Werecar = “The car that was”
Yikes.

That's fake though

That was on the spaniard dub.
Also, Chucky was renamed as "Carlitos Baldosa" in the mexican dub. (Baldosa means floor tile, as everyone stepped on this poor kid)

There are even scenes when he's holding up the blade to someone's chin where they just blurred it. It's inconsistent as fuck.

Funny thing, because here in Poland we call "Die Hard" as "A Trap of Glass" and "Dirty Dancing" is translated as "Twisting Sex".

All 3 "Despicable Me" movies have different titles: "How to Stole The Moon", "Minions Gone Wild" and "Gru, Dru and Minions".

"Tom Bosley" in this episode was changed to "Carlitos" (likely a reference to former Mexican president Carlos Salinas) in Latino.

What's with this naming style? It's like they need the plot handed to them in the title of the movie, though some of it is just pure insanity. Like the Girl Who Played with Fire. Then there's:
>>Balls of Fury - Don't You Touch Me in the Balls
This is gold.

>"Die Hard" as "A Trap of Glass"

Not exactly totally inaccurate.

it is an interesting title. similary in spain they called die hard "the glass jungle."

problem is, die hard 2 and 3 then got called the glass jungle 2 and 3. then came the jungle 4.0, and the jungle: a good day to die

my favourite is the latin america translation of ocean's 11/12/13

>the big swindle
>the NEW big swindle
>now they're 13

>sasewkay is really cool
>sakuura the beautiful

my sides
