We had a system where if you get 26% of the votes, you get 26% of the seats. It sucked, we had a referendum.

As I said in No, you're not. We decided to go FPTP because the proportional system - though representing the voters better - was much less effective in actually governing.
Democracy is good, but you do want a government that can function.
