Nah, I find the exploration of the alien technologies much more interesting, adding lore would kill off the episodic nature of the cartoon.
I remembered liking it as a kid so I went back and watched it. God it was grating. The humour has really aged poorly, considering it was mostly the word taco or muffin mentioned either as often as possible or when you thought they were done with the joke. There is some really great stuff there, great plot lines with legitimately horrifying events and implications, as well as occasionally funny stuff. I'd like an edited version where every shot with Gir is taken out.

Gir is annoying if you see him as a human character, once you realize that he was written to act like a dog the show becomes more bearable. Usually the strongest punchlines I find is shit Mrs. Bitters say to the children, or stuff that is too grounded or absurd. But it's usually just a single moment in a 11 minute episode. Still the overall episodes are enjoyable to an extent. But the characters become so obnoxious at times I need to take a break. Binge watching this show is a mistake.

Yeah, the point of GIR is that he's a insane little sidekick who's almost as bad as his master, yet ended up as a meme spewing machine. The comic is helping this by making him more creepy, like when he claims he ate children at the Skool.
The absurdist humor is pretty good, but at some points the writers don't understand the difference between absurdism and lolrandom.

Look OP, there is no denying that zim is quite possibly the greatest show ever made, but dont use its use of CGI and pretend it was a good thing. Its use of bad CGI when they couldve easily have animated things like his ship and house when gir took over is one of the only main problems with this show.

For a time like early 2000 and a budget of a TV show the cgi is well done. It blends in well with the esthetic of the overall show, and I'm impressed of parts where they have both styles on screen at the same time.
Also I know Sup Forums for being really picky on CGI, but I can be impressed easily when myself am watching in a shitty old monitor

If you ignore the fanbase that obsessed over the show in 2007 amongst the boom of emo kids who were SO RANDOMZ LOL (and I really hate to admit it but I was one of those "OMG I'M RANDOM" zim fangirls back in the day) it's not terrible.
The later episodes in my opinion are better in terms of the random humor because it's less "RANDOM WORD = HUMOR" and more "What the actual fuck?" along the lines of today's random humor.
The animation is still glorious (there's like literally one moment i can think of where the 3D didn't blend well, and Jhonen and the staff even joke about it if you watch the seasons with commentary, which you should).
It was a good show that died too soon because Nickelodeon is the original channel in handling their animated shows like shit. The reboot/special/whatever it's gonna be worries me but at least the original VAs are coming back for it (Hey Arnold's special was a little distracting for me because of how different Arnold sounds, but I got over it).
the lore is great because they reveal just enough to leave you wanting more, with enough room to fill in some gaps yourself.
If they do reboot the show entirely I hope they'll do countdown to doom and more episodes on Irkens in general but who knows if Jhonen wants to be involved that long? I'm honest to god surprised he even agreed to this but I guess the success of the comics softened his hatred of his own fanbase.
What else scratches the same "villain protagonist" itch? I generally get that from Venture Brothers, since the Monarch gets so much to do.

In short, the Tallest are figureheads who make the most basic decisions but the controlbrains are the real leaders. They're irkens who are basically 99% brain from what I understand and they were going to be featured in The Trial, an episode where Zim is put on trial for all of his crimes and would decide if he would keep living or be destroyed.

I can no longer stomach any sort of Zim shipping after being part of Zim threads on Sup Forums for a long time.
