The thing is, if anyone else had found the potion, they wouldn't know what to do with it. A small vial with a small amount of mysterious liquid? Throw that shit away man, you don't know what that is or does. And even if you test it on someone, there's too little to do anything.

But with the knowledge of Chemistry/Alchemy Varian is able to break it down, figure out what it does and reverse engineer it to made more.
