Because I haven't read it in some time, and because I don't think I've seen it storytimed in years, storytiming Morrison's New X-Men

What a great run. I still remember the compulsive search on emule for the scans every week.
Both, I prefer Morrison's writing when he's checked by and editor and has to subvert the authority to make something good that it's also enough conventional to make the cut.
Also, Quitely did a great job as usual. I wish they could remake the entire run with his art.

Why were X-fans so critical of Morrison's go, again?

Lots of reasons. Primarily, I think, because Morrison deconstructed the x-men but didn't stick around to reconstruct them. The ideas Marvel DID use were mostly the shitty British invasion writer ones like superheroes being stupid and gigantic mutant death counts, a great deal of which started here.
Despite the board culture not everyone liked Emma becoming princess of the X-Men either, and a certain breed of X-Fan will fight to the death for morally gray he's a good boy really Magneto despite it being a shitty idea and a waste of an iconic villain. It doesn't help that post-reveal he was kind of a clusterfuck because Grant wanted the x-men's new nemesis to be a racist space fungus.
Morrison still had some of his punk era dross around now, too, which rubbed people the wrong way. I wish people would use the GOOD ideas from his run but X-Men is so fucked up now who the fuck knows what to do with it, and a lot of fans blame the big influence after the Lee era, Morrison, for the beginning of the end.

So was this really Charles or Cassandra pretending to be Charles

this is Negasonic Teenage Warhead of Deadpool movie fame

Honestly I'd blame the 90's X-Men comics for being oversaturated and mostly ass, if anything. I've never been big into X-Men, but Morrison's stab at it was a breath of fresh air after shit like the vast majority of Wolverine vol 2.

I can't believe they managed to make Master Mold look cool again.
>you dream of keeping mutant women and children as slaves in your basement
Can't blame him. Most of those are quite fetching.

it was Cassandra
in the page before Cassandra says AUMM UUMMMAAAA CHAAAARLEES, It was probably Charles trying to say "I am Charles"
And Cassandra also says she only wants one mind
