WB: Let's give the entire DC cinematic universe to Sucker Punch director WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

>WB: Let's give the entire DC cinematic universe to Sucker Punch director WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

Man is Steel is capekino. Fuck BvS though.

>Man is Steel is capekino

In hindsight it really was an incredibly stupid decision to make Snyder the architect of an entire cinematic universe. I understand that apparently Man of Steel came out in a rush and Snyder was one of the few directors willing to take the job. But why leave him in place for Batman vs Superman? That strikes me as an incredibly important movie, both as a tentpole and as something that sets the tone for the DCEU going forward. WB had to have known that Snyder's movies weren't crowd pleasers by that point. Why keep him on? For a movie that big, why not try to find another director, one with a better track record of making crowd pleasers?

It's okay Whedon will save DCEU. I mean his reshoots are the only reason JL had 41% positive reviews. If he didn't come and shut down the dumbass Snyderfags that believe in capekino the movie would be worse and probably be something like 15 - 20% positive reviews.

>I don't understand how movie production works

Wasn't it all his idea in the first place?

No, the cinematic universe was supposed to start with green lantern

>Sucker Punch
Honestly if he just made it an anthology without the real world filler, it would've been salvageably decent.

This made me think of Sucker Punch as in the devs who made Sly Cooper and Infamous and the thought of Cole McGrath and the Justice League made me interested

And when that was a flop the producers abandoned it.

Snyder was picked to direct MoS but then became one of the producers himself and started putting money into the development of the cinematic universe.

The real world stuff was great, especially in the extended cut, those few minutes and the changes in the dialogue were pretty smart.
Snyder did pretty cool shit, the german soldiers bleed steam, the samurai's bleed light. The ways snyder turned the movie into pg-13 was cool.

I hope to god this manages to remain the absolute shittiest Superman costume of all time.

With the Supergirl one a somewhat distant second.

New 52 one is still worse

this tread again....

Why does there have to be an interconnected cinematic universe? The Christopher Reeves Superman films, Nolan's Batman, Tim Burton's Batman and those other Batman movies are all separate.

WB needs to do what their animation department does and just crank out movies and recast as necessary/have 3-4 actors; as they do 3-4 different voice actors; play the part.

Under the Red Hood movie with no Robin buildup? Just do it.

Legitimate Death of Superman movie without a few prior films? Just do it.

Bring back Keaton and give me a legitimate fucking Dark Knight Returns movie(s).

Reminder that Watchmen bombed in theaters and they still put him in charge.

Well sure, but I was talking live action.

>I hope to god this manages to remain the absolute shittiest Superman costume of all time.
Piss off the Dceu Superman suits are incredible & a godsend.

Well, when you say it that way it sounds stupid.

>Thor Ragnarok has all ready zoomed past $800 million

You like him, Sup Forums. You really, really liked him!

I still hat the Superman Returns one more. That wimpy small S, the too-dark red. Looks like a total loser, and he acted like one too, spying on his ex, their kid, and the guy raising their son.

Reminder

This, but there's nothing wrong with them keeping the same actors and having them set in the same universe. They just don't need to constantly reference each other.

You know, just like the comics. There's an established history there that can be used but you don't need to read to understand, crossovers are special occasions, etc.

The problem is that studios consider a reboot everytime cast needs to change now and with every reboot they need an origin story no matter how often or how recently we've seen the story. Batman Forever was actually a surprising exception in hindsight with Alfred as the only returning actor (that I recall). I guess the though of reboots at that time was nearly unheard of. The Norton/Ruffallo barely passed, because they just kind of pretended that the Hulk movie never happen, and a lot of people didn't see it anyways. Then Marvel just said "fuck it" for spiderman and it worked out relatively well.
The animated movies work because they trust enough that the people watching them already know the origins or are at least generally aware of the characters and can just move forward. Hollywood has to cater to the general audience and just assumes that if people go into a Superman/Batman/Flash/whatever movie with a different actor then the last one they saw they'll be totally confused about how it's "connected". Which is probably true in a lot of cases unfortunately. So they have to start over every single time and need like 5 fucking movies to "build up" instead of just telling the stories.

Batman 89 never had an origin. There were small references to it in the form of a nightmare/flashback and Bruce leaving flowers at crime alley. Nothing major.

>muh extended cut

Snyderfags everyone. If the only good versions of his movies are the extended ones without proper editing then he doesn't make good movies.

I'm not a big fan of the DCEU suit in general but I actually do like the JL version. I love that the colors are bolder and stand out more, making the suit that much more colorful.

>WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

BvS happens and has a long list of things wrong with it.
>A film that is too serious. There's a pee joke.
>Zack Snyder's first mistake was putting two movies in one movie. The two movies I refer to are Dawn of Justice and BvS.
>The Knightmare sequence was jarring.
>After the Knightmare sequence we see a dream within a dream about Barry. It was jarring as well.
The fight was cool.

So was it Snyder who wanted to tease Jason or someone else?

There is no indication that WB decided to abandon the shared universe project

Also his BvS movie was 4 years after Avengers making 1,6 billions and 1 year after Avengers 2 making 1,4 WB clearly wanted that money

Snyder didn't do shit.

My big problem with the MoS suit is Superman becomes a sourpuss the second he puts it on.

I hate what he did to DCEU but...
I enjoyed MoS, and Watchmen.

Is Sucker Punch that bad? Even if I go for the cuties?

His wife is some big wig exec and got him the MoS job. Like it or not, he did make the most successful Superman movie ever. He had a passion for the universe WB wanted to create so it's no wonder they gave it all to the guy who wants to make them more money.

>let's give him the illusion of power so he can be our fall guy
If Snyder had so much power why didn't he even get to decide what his second movie would be? Retard.

>he did make the most successful Superman movie ever.
Adjusted by inflation Superman 1 and 2 each made over 2 times more money than Man of Steel.

>"I gotta be honest, it definitely was a thing that… after Man of Steel finished and we started talking about what would be in the next movie, I started subtly mentioning that it would be cool if he faced Batman."

It was literally his idea.

That doesn't mean more people went to see those movies at the box office.

Other way around. Man of Steel has his moments but a pretty weak third act. Batman v Superman is great throughout and while the climax stumbles a bit aswell it never falls apart.

>Batman v Superman is great throughout

umm no sweet tea

It falls apart in the opening credits and remains an incoherent mess through all its run, there literally isn't a single thing done right in this movie, even action is worse than MoS.

>he wants more anime-style falling on boobs shots
>he wants more "Sorry guys I didn't bring a sword!" quips
>he wants more "everyone wants to date Diana"
>he wants more "you smell nice" scenes from Lois
>he wants more stupid unnecessary filler (Russian family)
>he wants more unnecessary fake feminism (I work with children!)
I wish I could remember more but Whedon made JL so bland. I can remember every scene in BvS and MoS though because those were actually good movies.

He meant EVENTUALLY. He originally wanted a Batman cameo on MoS 2 but the execs literally forced him to skip straight to Batman, which means he had to both establish Batman and deal with the aftermath of MoS in one movie, as well as come up with a team-up and do Death of Superman so that Batman could assemble the League to have a conflict in JL. It was a near impossible task that overwhelmed a lot of people watching it because he added so much content in one movie.

>BvS
>good movie

nice bait

Alright guys, you are in charge of saving the DCEU
What event do you adapt and who do you choose to direct it
Hard mode : you can't pick Flashpoint

>it never falls apart
you're right. it managed to shamble along, barely keeping itself together, and be an unpalatable mess throughout.

That very well might have happened. But even when Snyder isn't being forced to shove Batman into a movie and tease Justice League prematurely, he has never made a good film. You have no reason to believe it would have been good otherwise.

inb4 underages try to imply that dawn of the dead is a classic, that shit was mocked by horror fans for missing the point of the original version and being just a mindless horror movie where zombie behaviour simply didn't make sense.

>he wants more anime-style falling on boobs shots
I actually do want more of this stuff in live action, it's hotter when actual people do it and pretty funny.

BvS WAS a good film. MoS was a good one too. So was Sucker Punch and Watchmen. The point is that BvS did too much and people without decent observational skills and knowledge of comics would get overwhelmed, especially if they only saw it once. Many of the complaints about Superman's character development would have been solved with a MoS2 before BvS though.

Explain what Sucker Punch is about.

>Adjusted by inflation

Too bad that doesn't do shit for the current day

All the movies you listed are awful but I can simply assume that you got a really shitty taste.

Saying that Sucker punch was good in the other hand MUST be bait

>that shit was mocked by horror fans
Almost entirely because they were buttmad about runner zombies.

inflation exist so you can't ignore it, one dollar at the time was worth FAR MORE than a dollar today

>Inflation exists

No kidding

>You can't ignore it

WB doesn't fucking care though. Say what you want about the movie, it has it's flaws, but it made a decent chunk of money by WB's standards.

2013 WB did not give a single fuck about what a movie from '78 would make for them if adjusted for that year, because it wouldn't have magically put more fucking money in their pockets.

You mean the plot or the themes? It's been a while since I've seen it but I'll try to do both without cheating. The plot is about this girl who tries to escape from an insane asylum after being unjustly put in there due to bribery. She succumbs to her mental delusions when reality gets too difficult because in your own mind you're free to do whatever you want.

Some of the themes I noticed were how you should take and cherish the opportunities given to you, and how sometimes you should sacrifice yourself for the sake of others, even if you've worked really hard to get to where you're at. This theme of altruism confused me a lot because I've heard Snyder is an Objectivist and altruism is the opposite of Objectivism. This idea of altruism vs. Objectivism looks like it's also in BvS, and I think it might have to do with Snyder's Christian upbringing. Maybe he believes that most people are selfish and never do things selflessly, but there are some heroes that are beyond humanity, and like Christ, become martyrs for the sake of others. I mean, it's true though since there are some people who are willing to sacrifice themselves for others, ie non-family or friends, but those people are rare. I dunno, I found the movie to be pretty interesting in that respect.
