Gaiman.

The kid from Jumanji?

Who is this?

Some snake cult leader who a bunch of autist on this board worship.

Nah. Have just read Sandman, but it wasn't so impressive desu.

Stardust novel was nice tho

I feel Gaiman is the Tim Burton of comics. At some point it was innovative, then it became its own style, and finally it became stale. I can appreciate how meaningful is work was, but I can't appreciate it any more, every thing seems cliché.
It is one of these guys you can only read once.

Moore's work, on the contrary, has sometimes badly aged, but there is still something fresh, surprising and new each time I read it.

I though Charles Manson died?

How was it innovative?

I'd say vulgarisation of some esoteric references, psychoanalytic tropes, a certain ethnological view of the world and all.

why some are constantly comparing him to Morrison?

They both fight in the same "Meta" class.

In his early days Morrison made a big deal of shitting on Moore because it would gain him publicity. They had a rivalry stemming from this for a long time but I think it's cooled off now, but the association people draw between them because of it is still there.

Pretty much this.

What did he say about Moore back then?

Well, Kirby in terms of raw creativity is #1 by a mile.

But without exception everything Kirby wrote was half-baked and childish. There's a reason why people made such a big deal about comics "growing up" in the '80s; because Kirby's stuff for all its genius was also very, very babyish and clumsy in terms of actual storytelling, plot, meaning.

Moore is by far the best comics writer, the Shakespeare of the medium who realized and fulfilled its potential as illustrated literature.

Yeah, with Morrison the "meta" has gotten a lot more overcomplicated and tedious than it should be. He lost his wizard's duel with Moore 30 years ago, without Moore even trying. Morrison literally cast spells on Moore that bounced back and hit him without Moore even noticing that someone was trying to duel him.

Richard Stallman, groundskeeper of Howarts.

>turn into the most important writer on the era where DC/Marvel were getting more mature making dozens of iconic stories for both
>say that comics should be for kids

Is this guy crazy? I mean he's a great writer but his interviews make no sense. He's the guy who made western comics mature and now is bitching about it.

Gandalf the Grey.

HIS RAPEFISH COMIC IS TOP TIER

He's basically a raging narcissist who believes he's above everyone else in the industry.

I mean, the guy complained about how Johns iterated on ideas he introduced to Green Lantern in the 80's, comparing it to 'going through his trash', but is perfectly okay with basically stealing characters wholesale from other writers' work and using them without their permission in his works. I mean, I doubt he asked J.K. Rowling her permission to depict Harry Potter as the anti-christ.

the king of rape

He hasn't written the rape of wonder woman yet so nope.

Moore hasn't been relevant in 3 decades. He lucked out and wrote a mature story at a time when people wanted a non comics code book that wasn't underground drug porn

Are there any more wizards in comics other than Moore and Morrison?

that is NOT mark millar thank you very much

gary gygax

So who is better?

Hack.

>todger revealing tights
Nice homophobia there, Alan.

Radagast the brown

Yer a savage, Alan.

Destroyed him. Did he ever recover?

In terms of linguistic skill, no one matches Moore. In that respect I think he rivals the very greatest writers of the 20th century.

In terms of plot writing, Moore is good, but doesn't really transcend the others who take the same kind of "heady" approach to comics, such as most of the British Invasion writers. Him, Gaiman, Morrison, Milligan, and so on all kind of take similar approaches to comics, though obviously Moore was a big inspiration to the latter writers.

However I think Moore has this mythical status built up around him that he's some kind of masterful literary genius, who with nothing but his touch lifted comics from junk for kids to legitimate art. But in truth comics were art before Moore and the world of comics as an artform was mostly unaffected by anything Moore did. Moore's work affected SUPERHERO comics, and many fans of seem unable to make the distinction between comics and superheroes.

I think on one level Moore secretly loves that he's a messianic figure in cape comics, but on another level resents that he's a deity only to a bunch of nerds and superhero fanboys, which is the part he likes to display most. At his core, Moore is still just a kid who grew up reading superheroes and who fell in love with their world and what they stood for, and who chose to write comics because of that and not because he was simply attracted to the medium. His work reflects this, as its mostly takes on superheroes and mythology, just like guys like Morrison and Gaiman.

"Heady" means acid, right?

Dirty Frank

kek

R.Crumb: The Weirdo Years

I love prison pit & jason's stuff. thanks guys I'll check these out.

As far as like new monthly comics I only look forward to stray bullets & kill or be killed.

yeah prison pit is fucking great. i have no idea why i like it as much as i do but i can't get enough of it.

if you don't mind SOME cape stuff, Jeff Leimre just finished an amazing run on Moon Knight. He's also doing a sort of weird mystery comic called Black Hammer that's very good. also if you don't mind reading books just for art, Scottie Young's I Hate Fairyland is great.

anyone read slots?

American gothic was pretty weak. Plot conveniences here and there, and swamp thing became retarded so constantine would have an excuse to exist. But i blame karen berger for making them resolve the arcane plotline before introducing nukeface

big problem with black hammer is how fucking slow it moves, though.

Alan Rickman

...

I do

Lemire's big two capeshit is his worst work by far.

It still irritates me that every gf (other than webcomic) is a company, but then you have judge gf instead of 2000ad gf.

Millar already called dibs on that.

He's the varg of Sup Forums

based Moore

Fantagraphics gf is best gf

Moore is good, but overrated. He's done some books that redefined the genre, but he's also done plenty of stuff that's either mediocre or even outright trash.

He's got skill, but he's not some god of writing.

God damnit, I was gonna post that as soon as I saw the thread

John von Neumann

That's completely true, but even you've got it wrong - Rebellion is the publisher, 2000AD is just the one comic. They also do the Judge Dredd Megazine, a fair amount of brit comic reprints (like the horror comic for girls, Misty), three book-book imprints, and the video games they're most known for.

Yes. Moore never reached the level of peak Hickman.

Ha no, not a moorefag but hes very overrated. American Gods was a shit novel desu

You're wrong and also you're not giving names. His worst work was Wildcats and even that was good.

Idk if I can trust him now, that rape scene in neonomicon really scared and disgusted me

...

Look at him. Look how sad he is. It's like a silent cry for help

Frank Miller.

80s Moore was the best. 90s Moore wasn't as good, but had some really cool stories nonetheless. 00s Moore was all right. But 10s Moore was when he started slipping, and his comics stopped feeling weird and bizarre and felt more like the bitter rantings of an out of touch old man.

> points at superhero comics for children and say "it is for children"
> genius
> puts porn, gore and political mamblings in comics and say it is "graphic novel for adults"
> writes comics for DC
> DC says it will keep the characters
> signs contract
> complains about it for the rest of his life as an unaccomplished writer whose sole merit was pointing how comic books for children are for children

This guy is pathetic.

>Help, DC is raping my children. Someone save them.

>and I'll look down and whisper "No."

True, but that's because Rebellion bought 'em when they were going under. 2000AD is just the one comic but it's the same one that spawned the Megazine and all the non-Dredd series that the prog is known for, the ones dating back decades (Rogue, Strontium, etc).

I don't think Sup Forums really gives a shit about how much the rehash Shoot Hitler DLC for the newest iteration of Sniper Elite costs, I know I sure don't.
