Who's ready to get nothing again this year?

here ready
Yeah nah I think I'll just watch and wait for news of what's revealed.
Me, really poor, as long as I get one day I'm fine.
If nit, oh well I'll hang out at adult swim even though their price system went to shit last year
I haven't been to SDCC in nearly 15 years. I can't even imagine what a cesspool of overcrowded human bodies it is these days.
Eh it'll be worth it for the postcon orgy
>friend has work asks me to log in for him
>happy to do it since I fucked up during closed registration
>only gives me his email and password
>no waiting room link
>no big deal just log into the account and get the waiting room link and code
>site keeps crashing
>there's seven minutes to 9
Well this sucks
>I can't even imagine what a cesspool of overcrowded human bodies it is these days.
They capped attendance in, what 2007? So it's been static for a while. And with the events getting spread around downtown it might even be getting a little less dense.
Try a different browser. And use the test link.
I'm having the same problem except the friend never got the link, though she got the Open Reg e-mail.
I didn't get a registration code and i can't login to the main site
Preview Night and Sundays aren't crowded, saturday and sunday are the worst.
This worked--thanks.
If you're eligible to buy a ticket you should get one
Look at your member id page the code should be there anyway.
>i can't login to the main site
Oops I missed that, why not?
>Look at your member id page the code should be there anyway.
I cant login to the damn site
Not that user but site keeps crashing.
Has it started yet?
What's even the point of cons?
fun things are fun
It has.
I hate waking up this early just for the random chance of getting a pass.
Meeting a lot of new people who are interested in the same shit as you.
Getting good deals.
Meeting your favorite writers and artists.
Seeing new shit.
Lots of reasons for them to exist and to go to.
What's the point of life? We all end up 6 feet under anyways
I haven't been to SDCC since 2013, and I know I'm not missing anything.
But I'd still like to go back, if only for the kicks.
I just wish there were some better way of getting tickets than the waiting room they have now. How about some kind of loyalty program or something?
SDCC doesn't want the convention to be nothing but regulars, so the closest you'll get to loyalty is going the previous year and using your past membership for the random chance of getting in with past members.
AKA, pre-registration.
Right now this is the regular registration.
27 year veteran here, btw. I've been going every year since 1990.
>only 14 people are posting in this thread
I remember when we had 100+ people in these threads.
Sup Forums is getting more and more antisocial.
Because its harder and harder to get in because of normies.
I just bought a Wondercon ticket for consolation, I'm sure its pretty much the same thing as Comic-con.
Don't worry user, I'm here waiting with you. We can both get nothing together!
I went last year, I didn't really enjoy it that much.
>Preview Night badges sold out.
There's a huge gap between being antisocial and not spending hundreds of dollars to go to a con.
The dream is over
My company exhibited there for the last 8 years. It was GREAT 09, 10, and 11. Things began to really change in 12 and 13, and since 14 it has been kinda something that is only worth it for BIG corporations to take out booths at.
Also, if no one noticed, the "exclusives" have not been worth it lately, pretty much following the pattern of the time frame I mentioned above.
Sure there will be a few random things companies will make 10, or 100 or 1000 of, but for the stuff put out by Hasbro, Mattel, and what not, go look at it on ebay.... the prices don't really go up like they used to. That's because they make 10,000 or 20,000 units of most of it, and than release it through Diamond or their own web shops, but act like it is some "limited" thing they only made 50 of.
Feels like the con is kinda a waste now.
I am thinking we will return our booth while we can get a full refund and just bow out this year.
>It was GREAT 09, 10, and 11. Things began to really change in 12 and 13, and since 14 it has been kinda something that is only worth it for BIG corporations to take out booths at.
What's weird is that the attendee experience hasn't changed drastically in that time. But I've heard tons of complaints on the exhibitor side. I'm curious what has been changing.
>Saturday inventory running low
I missed preregistration so all I'm hoping for this year is at least Saturday.
...
I got all 4 days
So you're saying Sup Forums in past years were richer, even during shitty economy years from 2008-2012?
Even I had problems getting in during those years, where i only went 3 days instead of my usual 5.
Nah, this is definitely antisocial where Sup Forums doesn't want to go out and make excuses about how they can't.
Even I had problems getting in during those years, where i only went 3 days instead of my usual 5.
Also, WOO! I GOT IN! 4 DAYS! =D
no preview night! =(
At least somebody in this thread got something.
fuck.
At least Sunday to get in for pre-registration next year then.
Well, I feel like attendees just have not NOTICED the change because the change, partly, happened with them, though the change in attendees is also almost certainly because of how the mega corps have marketed things to them...
For a small or medium sized publishes, you used to bring some of the artists from your titles, have them do autographs and sketches, and sales would be amazing.
You might make an exclusive limited shirt or mini figure to sell for $10-$20 and you would be sure to sell out of a couple thousand.
Now, you dare put up a shirt and all you will get is the public telling you that WB or Fox is giving a shirt away... the mini figures still blast out of there, but are forever lost in a maelstrom of Funko trash, and free Negan-baseball-bat-key-chain-flashlights passed out by everyone else, so the exclusives as marketing for a small company are drowned out by the big company marketing.
I know that is business everywhere these days, and has been for a while, but Comic Conventions only took this turn in the last 5-10 years, so the wound is kinda fresh for the mediums and smalls.
>Thursday and Sunday
No I'm saying that being social has nothing to do with going to a con.
>meeting new people
Seems like a bad place to meet new people, it's just giant loud crowds
>getting good deals
Wouldn't "con exclusive" shit just be price hiked?
>Meeting your favorite writers and artists
Does it really count as meeting if you're just in a line to get some shit signed?
>Seeing new shit
What new shit? It's all going to be on the internet later, probably already is.
Missed out on Preview Night, but managed to get everything else...I'm so pumped. I can't believe I finally got in.
shut the fuck up
>caring about the value of the exclusives
Nah, dude.
This year's exclusives were great. Probably one of the best years for exclusives since forever.
Last year and the year before i barely bought any.
Check out my haul from this year.
>Avatar: Legacy
Huh, I never heard of that before. What's it like? Any good?
>paying money to wait inline and spend more money
nah
What about the social experience of waiting in line?
Don't engage/reason with the trolls
I was being sarcastic though, the joke is it's not a worthwhile social experience either
Thing is, for the same prices (or way less since no hotel, travel and other expenses) you can just get those after the con off ebay.
And yeah yeah, bla bla "anti social" whatever. "half the fun is standing in like for 2 hours to get stuff" bla bla "badge of nerd honor" yeah yeah.....
NO.
I LOOOOVE cons, but I also am not a fan of spending 5 days on a Tokyo subway car.
If you want one SDCC puts on that is manageable, and fun, try Wondercon.
willing to go out to enjoy your hobby with a hundred thousand other people is being social.
Not going and trying to come up with reasons not to go outside with over a hundred thousand people is pretty antisocial.
A giant crowd is THOUSANDS of opportunities of meeting new people.
This year i met a cute as fuck happa girl and we hit it off so damn well. I totally fucked it up though by allowing her to go in ahead of me, which made it sound like i didn't want to stay with her. She was pretty peeved, because she just turned her back on me right then and there and left without saying good bye.
I have a lot more experiences like this ever single year.
One year this old lady just glomped onto me and followed me around for three hours because I was giving tips on how to get the best seats in a room while in line.
... i get so depressed after comic con, because normal day life isn't consistently that awesome and easy in just meeting new people.
Check out my other stuff i got this year! Didn't take pictures of posters, prints, and original art i got, because my sister-in-law kept that shit for nearly a month afterward.
Grifter mask was badass, which i got at the WildStorm reunion panel.
how much did you spend?
Got Friday - Sunday for my friend and my mom
Only Sunday left now.
>Only Sunday left
>What's it like? Any good?
It's a children's book, written as scrap book as a present from Aang to Tenzin.
One of the artists whose art was heavily featured in the book was selling it signed. I commissioned him to do a couple of sketches for me inside too.
He did a lot of official art, including a WANTED poster from the season when Appa was missing, which they were handing out at Comic Con in 2007.
A mini-poster was included in this book. There's other scraps like this posted throughout the book. Like the water bending scroll from season 1 and a chart about the panels.
Really cool book.
>All badges for Comic-Con 2018 are sold out.
All sold out.
I'm gonna go toss myself into a fire now.
3rd year staring at this thing as everything sells out.
>Live in San Diego
>Get Thursday and Sunday
THE DREAM.
IT IS KILL
Sounds horrible.
I'd suggest that there's been a general shift in the attendee paradigm.
That is, a majority of attendees don't go to Comic-Con for comic books or comic culture. Now it's about popular culture in general, and the major exhibitors are taking notice. One half of the convention floor is now essentially a marketing area or a miniature CinemaCon if you will.
The last one or two times I went to SDCC, I found myself walking over through the comic book vendors area just to get some open space in the convention area.
>All tickets sold out
LIFE IS PAIN
I HATE-
We should start a betting pool for how long it will take for tickets to sell out.
about a thousand bucks.
Last year i only spent $500, so you can see how much better i thought this year was.
Yeah, i think for exhibitors it has changed. I think people are buying far less and I've gone to other conventions where various artists talk shit about SDCC and how they do better business at Arizona and the Stan Lee conventions.
This year i really didn't buy many trades, because a lot of booths had just switched to mostly/only selling Funko Pop shit. Also, selection was really poor compared to past years.
Here's some of my haul from 2015, i think.
See how high that stack of trades is?
>a lot of booths had just switched to mostly/only selling Funko Pop shit
I'm honestly somewhat surprised the Funko bubble hasn't popped yet. Maybe because people learned their lesson?
Then again, Bitcoin.
MY FUCKING REMINDER DIDN'T TELL ME AND I DIDN'T GET NO FUCKING EMAIL WITH A LINK WTF
eh I'll stick with Anime Expo Los Angeles, it's a lot cheaper, and despite being an anime convention there's always been a fairly strong Sup Forums presence there
>about a thousand bucks.
>Last year i only spent $500
I've spent $20 at cons since the recession. And even that was an exclusive I was planning to resell, but ended up liking it. That's why I like SDCC. At any given time there are probably three different panels that I want to attend.
>AND I DIDN'T GET NO FUCKING EMAIL WITH A LINK WTF
Then you weren't eligible. Or you've changed your email. Or possibly your spam filter hates you.
this. It also doesn't cap attendance and expectations are always mild.
>got all 4 days somehow
Never managed to get tickets before, aside from being in line 80% of the time what am I in for?
>they do better business at Arizona
also this. Phoenix Comicon is comfy and manageable and ALSO doesn't cap attendance.
Yeah honestly, I went for the first time last year and I actually attended a panel for once.
i still haven't been since im east coast
i want to at least once, just to do it, but i guess NYC is the same shit, just east coast variant.
i just hang out in artist alley all day anyway, no real desire to talk to celebs for 1 second as they are "happy that your a fan"
>what am I in for?
They publish the schedule a week in advance. Read through and identify everything you want to do. Assign priorities if you want to. Then add the event with the room it's in to a calendar in your smartphone. This allows you to easily keep tabs on what you want to do, and where you need to be during the con. Overlapping events is normal, and you might not be able to get into your first choice. So having secondary or tertiary options is a good idea. I know they have an app for this, but it hasn't been very easy to use in the past.
Note that you will have to get in line for popular things early. Even the smaller rooms may have people lined up in advance. Don't plan on seeing anything in Hall H unless you're willing to prepare a blood sacrifice. (Most of the Hall H stuff leaks anyway.)
>And yeah yeah, bla bla "anti social" whatever. "half the fun is standing in like for 2 hours to get stuff" bla bla "badge of nerd honor" yeah yeah.....
No, dude.
For me, standing in line is half the fun, because the people around you are bored and willing to just socialize to cure that boredom.
Like i said before, some of these people end up sticking with me long afterward.
I'd talk about the males who'd follow me around, but I'm afraid some of them might come to Sup Forums and I'll say sometimes it was not so pleasant for them to buddy up with me because of how socially awkward they were.
I really liked it though, if only just to tell a funny story.
I've run into them years later at SDCC too and that always fills my heart with warmth.
Meeting cute girls in line though? UNF. Cute girls who are also nerds? Fucking UNFFFFF. That alone is worth the price of just going.
Seriously, there's really nothing that compares to experiencing SDCC in person. Even just going downtown you'll find a shitload of people you can just randomly hang out with.
One year a Showtime exec (for Strikeback) wanted me to go out and get a drink with me, because she thought i'd know a good place as a local of San Diego.
If i were a Chad, i'd do nothing but stand in line to meet girls. Instead, I'm an awkward geek who spills his spaghetti and that's fucking OKAY at this event.
Also, i rarely hook up with anyone, because i'd rather see other shit going on at SDCC.
That cute as fuck happa chick i mentioned before? I convinced her to go into the convention with me, because all she really was doing is ONLY waiting in long ass lines and getting mediocre free food. Even made plans with her to get actual good food later in the evening after SDCC closed. SO PISSED i ruined it with her.
Also, fuck ebay. For the entire 3 months surrounding SDCC? Prices are ridiculous and exclusives become harder to find after that.
I went to Anime Expo this year. Those people did not know anything about how to run an efficient event.
Yeah. Time to change the name to pop con.
LOL.
"Line" The ride.
Aaaand.... sure. You have a pretty unique perspective there buddy.
And yet they want to charge SDCC prices for booths. Go fig.
It's probably pretty common, for humans
The other thing is that the city of San Diego could approve to expand the convention center but bureaucracy, this asshole who makes money out of suing the city, and a bunch of other problems will probably end up with SDCC moving out of San Diego instead.
There's a reason why that city isn't a big deal city like New York or Chicago and it doesn't fucking grow.
Pretty much except Wondercon is just more furries.
>Also, fuck ebay. For the entire 3 months surrounding SDCC? Prices are ridiculous and exclusives become harder to find after that.
That depends on the exclusive. Some go really high during/after the con but there are some others that were high during the con but drop significantly.
Same but it's still better than nothing.
>I went to Anime Expo this year. Those people did not know anything about how to run an efficient event.
yeah it was kinda a mess this year(hell I ended up not going to any panels this year, although that's partially because I ended up holed in my hotel room for a lot longer than normal due to a foot injury)
The lines for "smaller" conferences (not GoT, DW, AT, etc.) are not so bad.
There's a metric fuckton of merch
Some cool non-autistic people maybe
See, you're just making up excuses on why you totally dont want to go and not worth it.
And I'd rather you NOT go, because it'll be easier for me to get my tickets.
But you know what? I demand fresh blood, because new people going keeps SDCC (and everything else for that matter) more interesting.
I used to invite people (online and IRL friends, potential GFs) every year to come with me, but the past few years have been bad for me, and thus my only consistent companions have been my brothers and sisters. Since we have different interests and have actual business to do at the convention, I mainly go out by myself to walk the floor and see panels.
So those random people i meet in lines? They're a boon for me in not feeling alone, to share and enhance my experience at SDCC each year.
This is what conventions are for. All that shit i buy? Yeah, i could buy it on ebay or some flea market, but conventions have always been about a group of people to share their interest and hobbies with each other.
Even meeting your favorite artist/writer in person is all about that social interaction.
If you're going to these conventions to not be social, you're doing it wrong.
Also, here's me walking on to the set of Blade Runner 2049.
It was fucking amazing. It was raining in doors, puddles everywhere, they had actors walking around playing whores, police, bums, and replicants, who interacted with everyone. Some of the actors would accuse you of being a replicant out of nowhere, get the cops to come over to oyu and they'd haul you over the checkpoints to see if you were human or not.
You could "buy" (FREE!) noodles and whiskey with a bracelet they were giving out before you entered the ride section. You could also "buy" either a tshirt or umbrella at one of the vending machines.
Did i say it was fucking amazing?
Id rather go to a nerd convention than disney land/six flags/universal
As someone who goes to these amusement parks every year, SDCC is better than experiencing these parks even if you had the whole park to yourself on your birthday and christmas, for double the presents and friends.
It's because SDCC sucks ass user.
They want to stop other Comic Cons from using Comic Con and to really twist the knife SDCC is barely about comics anymore. Also it's expensive.
ok that blade runner experience sounds awesome
>tfw gettin good deals and meeting your faves at a local con
You think wasting hundreds if not thousands of dollars to go to a fucking corporation-fest makes you social?
You're a fucking loser dude.
It's Sup Forums so yeah.
red pill me on volunteering at cons is it a scam?
