Saying racist things is substantially different from experiencing institutionalized racism though. A white person's race is less likely to be used against them when looking for a job, dealing with the cops or the courts, etc. Plus if you're white, chances are you'll have an inheritance from your grandparents. If you're black, chances are your grandparents lived in poverty. Slavery was abolished in 1865 and segregation ended in 1965, and it's not like the people and institutions stopped their prejudices over night.
