OP, Mexico doesn't have to pay for the wall directly. The funding that we send Mexico is more than enough to pay for the wall. Take away their funding for a year and the build the wall with that.

Going to war with Mexico and annexing land from them because they won't build the wall is like going to war with North Korea and then afterwards giving them nuclear technology because they wont give up their nukes.

Set the bar high when negotiating. Bring it down so the other party feels like they're getting a good deal.

The wall is going to be a boosted border patrol, fix of dilapidated sections at critical places, tighter restrictions on temporary residents, additional laws patching immigration loopholes and actual enforcement of existing and new laws. All with financial carrot and stick in the form of controlling flow of remittances.
