Poe should be tried for absolute mega treason, the mega part not coming from trying to take over command of the "entire" rebel army but from coming up with a plan he shouldn't have gone forward with that ended up foiling Holdo's actually decent plan, killing so many people that the Millenium Falcon wasn't even at half capacity once all of what was left of the rebel alliance went inside.
The Admiral was a five star cunt but shit, when you get demoted like that don't expect the fucking CEO of your company to pray to heaven that the guy in the middle position is gonna come up with a hail mary, they got to that spot for a reason. Holdo should have said something that second time Poe came to her, when he started throwing a tantrum. She could've said "hey calm the fuck down we have a planet to go to and we'll wait things out there" but didn't. But that scene happened long after the Canto Bight plan was already underway, and that plan backfiring isn't on her.

And here is the part where you trap yourself by your own argument. You can't defend one of his bad actions with "he couldn't know the future!" while defending another one of his bad actions that just happened to turn out well despite him not knowing the future. He couldn't have known that the FO had hyperspace tracking. He couldn't have known that destroying the dreadnought would immediately pay off. He couldn't have known that no other opportunity to destroy the dreadnought would appear. He couldn't have known that the bombers wouldn't be useful and were therefore expendable.

Anyway, Holdo is a fool with poor communication skills (which is remarkable for a flag officer, but not unheard of: there have been a few military leaders who have been considered strategically brilliant but really bad at playing well with others) but that doesn't excuse Poe's weak decision making. I mean, all he had to do was bring up his plan to his superiors if he thought it was so much better than what appeared to him to be a nonexistent plan and then maybe they would have filled him in on how that was going to backfire on the actually real plan and possibly fill him in on that. Then again maybe Holdo would give him the cold shoulder a second time.
Either way, this whole sequence is just bad because it requires everyone to just refuse to tell anyone anything. I really wish the rumors about the mole plotline were true, at least that would explain why everyone refused to talk to each other.

Although had they gotten to the stalled point, Lucas would have kept Holdo with her plan, Poe wouldn't have made an idiotic move out of the blue because Leia would reassure him to trust in the command, they'd all be ok with the kamikaze strike still happening and then there's a massive army the 1st Empire has to take on in the abandoned planet, if they even realized they were there at all. Many people survive, Holdo dies but who cares about her, Luke doesn't exert that much of his ability with the army being a bit more even, he lives, fuck you Rian.

Just watched the new movie. I like what they are doing with Rey and Kylo. I was ok with treatment of Luke and him disappearing into the force but the build up to that was either ambiguous or not there at all; I also don't like that they had him go back on him thinking the Jedi aren't needed. I liked almost all the action scenes and them redeeming Kylo by him taking out almost all the guards while Rey had a problem dealing with just one. Benicio needed a bit more screen time but his stutter was weird. Rose brought the movie down an entire point.

Agreed that they did a lot to make up for Rey's inexplicable fighting superiority over Kylo in TFA. Rey had to take her opponents on one at a time and struggled while Kylo fucked up three or four at the same time and even had time to look over and check on her. Though they worked well together they weren't complete equals in combat prowess.

You're not supposed to be seeing him as a typical big bad. They spent the whole movie taking pains to humanize him and then had him making irrational and emotional decisions once he was finally the leader because he was freaking out over Rey's rejection and murder uncle's appearance.
He's still going to be the big bad for most of IX probably. Hux will no doubt plan a coup but a hypothetical redemption arc would involve Kylo dismantling his own order from the inside out. And Rey will have to get him to a point where he wants to do that.
This is a plot that could take the whole movie, so there's no need for a bigger bad.

I don't think it was meant to make the First Order and Resistance more gray area, both are still firmly evil and good. The idea is that war is good for business regardless of the ideology of either side. The fatcats on Canto Bight are going to make money off of both the good and the bad. Regardless of which side is good or evil, the war is still a machine and war profiteers are still going to profit. That's why DJ sees both sides as ultimately being the same since they feed the same cycle.
