a) I think you must make the media send the message that Hofer would be good at working with other nearby countries at solving the migration crisis, but independent of the EU's decission processes. The idea that Austria wouldn't fight alone when Erdogan let's loose, which may be soon.
b) But don't associate with Trump. Austrians think Trump is silly in that he does politics while knowing 0% about politics. He does not sell except with 20yo boys here.
The fact that FPÖ is seens by other Europeans are Nazi party (NSDAP back then) indeed gives many Austrians a reason not to vote for them. I'm from Vienna, but lived in Germany for years. There they are under the impression that FPÖ = NSDAP when in reality most working class people - and this includes Turks (!), Serbs and other migrants - do indeed vote for them. Because they are a populist party. The don't know how to rule without making people fight. The left's current migration policy doesn't allow to do nothing, which is exactly what the VdBellen (the opponent of Hofer) would do. Smile and do whatever EU likes most.
c) So yeah - if you actually want to help Hofer, I'm pretty sure you can! Actually. You would have to make mainstream media talk about him in a positive light. This will make him votable. Indeed, you must make people believe that Hofer would work good together with countries like Germany (and by that I don't mean with Frauke Petris party, but with any German consensus)
