There will likely be some provision to allow children to stay on the plans of their parents until 25, and require coverage of those with preexisting conditions, or at least ensure them some federal minimum coverage. The mandate to have health insurance will be thrown out, and competition will be opened to allow for greater affordability.

Might be caps placed on premiums, and implement a system of reform to get the prices down to prevent overcharging. Additionally, the billions per year spent on illegals for medical care will go bye bye.

It will be similar to the old system, with common sense reforms to keep premiums as low as possible, and allow for people to decide whether they want health insurance or not. You know, what should have been done in the first place.

The goal was to get more people access to healthcare at all.

The initial ideal for it was universal healthcare, but that wouldn't have passed through Congress thanks to the Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans throwing a shitfit. We ultimately compromised to make a system that made nobody but insurance companies happy.

I agree with this user but it politically untenable in this country to have a single provider universal healthcare system. Shame, really. Obamacare was an attempt at a middle ground - universal healthcare that is private and driven by choice of healthcare providers. But unfortunately, many are just opting out and paying a small penalty to not have healthcare....and those people are the healthier folks that have less risk of ginat medical bills. BUt those folks are needed in the healthcare pool so long as those with preexisting conditions are not going to be penalized for their bad health...otherwise the rates keep going up as more people opt out, causing the rates to go further up, causing more healthy people to opt out.
The best way forward that is politically acceptable would be to bolster the mandate - to increase the penalty for not having healthcare. BUt with a red congress and president, thats a lost cause too. Instead, we'll get a system where hundreds of thousands will be left out, forced into bankrupcy and so forth for their bad health. And someone will still need to pick up the bill for their medical treatment...we will still have to pay for them, we're not just going to let them die.
