Anons, I need some non-Trump-related anonymous advice. +1 if you are veterans.
My 10-year-old niece wants me to go to her school tomorrow for Veteran's Day.
I was in the Navy for just over two years, but got kicked out for Failure to Conform to Military Standards. (Despite that, I was released with a General Under Honorable COnditions discharge.) I was NOT on duty during a time of combat.
For the past almost-two decades, I've been telling my family that no, I would NOT apply for Veterans benefits on anything because it feels like I'm stealing the honor of those who actually ARE Veterans.
But now... I really don't want to let my niece down, and I've really been conflicted over this.
What do you think? Would me claiming Veteran status be a shit thing to do? I know I can "legally" and "technically" do it, but it just feels like such a douche thing to do.
I won't respond or anything, I'll just take any advice you want to give under consideration.
