I was into EU stuff before and got back into in and I can remember why I lost interest in the first place.
They seem terrified of treading new ground and go over the same content over and over.
Like Aphra being a one-dimensional hot mary sue unimiginative expy of Han Solo who gets an evil expy of Chewbacca and 3PO and R2D2. It's lazy and seems like a waste of time to write a character who ultimately won't amount to anything of importance anyways.
The last thing I remember getting excited about was Thrawn just because a competent non-arrogant thinker who learns from his mistakes was refreshing. Can someone recommend comics that try to be adventurous? The new movies certainly did nothing there.

Rey has always scavenged, and living so, despite being rather comfortable considering the state of Jakku, she refused to share it with anyone except a droid (which coincidentally was the most valuable droid in the galaxy at the time). Rey also saw herself as able to control the Force as a power to 'lift rocks', showing her close-mindedness- although, the movie later on shows us this is EXACTLY how she ends up using it, as if her light side training taught her nothing. Speaking of her training, repeatedly, she went straight towards the dark, not the light. When Rey tried to 'help' Kylo Ren, she ended up greedily attempting to take back Anakin's lightsaber, putting her own wants before Ben's despite her supposed feelings about him and knowledge of his conflictedness. So remember, /swco/ Rey is not a light wielder. She's arguable darker than Kylo.

Her ship is a mashup and the Millennium Falcon and Slave 1, she's a mercenary instead of a smuggler. How is she not an expy? Because she's working with Vader? They even had a fight scene of her against Solo and they fought the exact same way with the same strategy against each other.
She's a one-dimensional character in increasingly contrived situations and gets out of those using her Mary Sue hax

Why do people always put the PT on trial? As in, who cares that they (very debatably) failed as movies, when TCW addresses a lot of those failings? With the PT and TCW, we have something that truly enriches the OT, and the character of Anakin Skywalker.
The PT, TCW, the TCW wrap up parts of Rebels, and the OT form a REALLY great story and universe that the OT alone can't compete with.

This is what I mean though? Why does it matter if it wasn't, when it is now? TCW is great anyway, and it fixes many people's (including the meme man himself Plinkett)'s main problem with the PT- seeing more of Anakin and Obi, and Anakin when he's not depressed.
