What do you mean? Do you really want to pretend that traditional schooling actually prepares anyone to lead an adult life with responsibilities?
so what will they be teaching them? genuinely interested

Another western country bites the dust.
Did not expect Spurdoland to go so soon, but, oh well.

Guess there education system is Finnished !
Could be ok, could be disastrous.
Wew Carlos.
New finnish school objective:
DESTRUCTION OF THE SWEDE "FOLK" AT ANY COST.

We're doing what now?
The fuck?
Sudbury schools have been around for a long time now and Finland certainly didn't invent that worthless model.

>And by taking the course ”Working in a Cafe," students will absorb a whole body of knowledge about the English language, economics, and communication skills.
legitimately cannot tell if this is satire
How to shitpost
da fuck
It actually makes sense to me.
Learning science leads us to believe that interleaving, distributed practice, and elaboration are the best ways to cement knowledge for life, and abolishing arbitrary subject boundaries to more fully explore the connections between knowledge areas should serve towards those principles very well.
What exactly are you autists up to?
???
>Instead of individual subjects, students will study events and phenomena in an interdisciplinary format
Actually sounds kind of interesting, but I could absolutely see this going real fucking bad if done wrong.
Was about to say the same. Haven't heard of this until now
>not worth educating.
>le why don't we learn something useful meme
Protip: learning the cold hard facts and the fundamentals and learning to apply that knowledge yourself to the real world is the real learning. Being spoonfed heuristics is not learning. It's being taught a script.
carlos!
>tfw half finnish

>Could be ok, could be disastrous.
Yup..
Really depends on the implementation..
When I first heard about this I was flipping out, but after some thought it actually has potential.
Basically instead of teaching how to do statistical math in a vacuum void of any real application, you mix it with chemistry or physics to make it obvious why you're studying it.
Also, It makes no sense to have religion/history/economics as separate subjects when they're obviously connected..
I assume this is just an experiment carried out by some schools, the subjects being merged together where they intersect. This makes sense, all of science is observationary philosophy. Winland will be the most intelligent nation on earth in ten years
If this devolps in true classical education then GOD SBEED FUNLAND :DDDDD
Your days are numbered here, spic.
Tolstoy education? If so interesting.
This is what happens when you live in a frozen shithole. You do dumb, autistic shit like this.
Fuck you Finland, you mongol fucks. Enjoy your leveraxe.
wouldn't these would be better as supplementary courses instead
This.
In a lot of ways, it's the best way to learn because it puts the usefulness of a topic into context.
Thats it im done with finland. Im moving to sweden.
First time I've heard of this so this must be completely misinterpreted as usual. Something like this would be first thing in the news as it'd be so fucking stupid.
[DOUBT]
Like what? Hyyrilainen? Finnish is relatively easy to pronounce with the exception of R's imo.
It is just montissori and the article happens to have an inflamatory headline and catchey opening paragraph.
Fucking hate the press. Make the most benign thing sound scandalous.
>Basically instead of teaching how to do statistical math in a vacuum void of any real application, you mix it with chemistry or physics to make it obvious why you're studying it.
Chemistry and physics are hardly the only applications for math. I'm also unaware they teach statistics in Finnish primary school? Basically what you're asking for is more application problems. I'm all for that, but it's easier explaining to someone the simple theorems before going to applications. I agree though, I didn't have much interest in calculus until someone explained to me some of the applications.
I still think you should be preparing kids to be able to pursue whatever career they take interest in. That's part of why school is there, and not every job needs studying but it does help if you're trying to get into say engineering.
this desu
all that drilling of pythagorean theorem seems useless until you need to build ANYTHING with your hands.

Carlos usually sucks but that was very good
That's completely reasonable, and considering the success of Finland's hands-on education system, no one here is in any position to criticize them.
>It's always in the top ten
Moar like top 3 usually no. 1. That should be a hint that rest of the a article is pure shit. Probably written by some angy rightwing trumpster who is just jelly for our superior socialist education system
Simply Ebin :DDD
>Instead of individual subjects, students will study events and phenomena in an interdisciplinary format. For example, the Second World War will be examined from the perspective of history, geography, and math.
How does one study WW2 from the prospective of math?
"Han's trains cars can hold up to 200 Jews each. 2 Trains can travel to the camps each hour. How many cars will each train need in order to reach his Quota of 3000 Jews/day?"
"Using the diagram above, position Simo so he a snipe as many Russians as possible, with range indicated on the map. Assume that they do not move, frozen in fear and frostbite."
I guess unpronounceable was the wrong word, its just get mispronounced every time I start a new semester at uni with new teachers and all. My first name isn't all that great either. My dad married a "white" mexican girl, my mother, and when they had me my mom insisted on giving me some obscure spanish name her grandfather had. My name equals 22 characters in length, excluding my middle name.
>billy bob bought 1000 feet of fence from home depot
This is the preparation for whatever is going to replace common core in the future

Wat.
It's not about hands-on education, which I have no problem with and completely agree is the way to go.
However
>Working in a cafe
is literally a meme (starbucks feminist dance therapy majors) and that makes me doubt the authenticity of the source.
I seriously doubt this
Nobody is reporting this here
I can tell you that the article is complete bullshit. Yes, Finland did habe a change in education, but we still have subjects just like every other country. The subjects are just intertwined so that skills learned from several subjects can be used to study phenomena. The problem is that the new system got implemented this autumn, and they never properly explained what the subjects being intertwined meant. It could mean that the students do an assignment every once in a while that counts towards several subjects or it could mean that the way they teach has been changed completely, we just don't know. All in all I think it's pretty bad either way.
...
>How does one study WW2 from the prospective of math?
One Finnish soldier is equal to 10 Russian ones :DDDDDDDDD XDXDXDXDXDXDXD
Dää xddd
>How does one study WW2 from the prospective of math?
Depends what angle you're studying it from.
Makes perfect sense. Finns see Trump memed into the White House and decide to refocus their entire country on meme magic.
Finland guaranteed meme superpower by 2030.
I think this is bullshit. I havent seen anything about this in finnish media.
Brllrlrllll prooomm proom :-DD
>Chemistry and physics are hardly the only applications for math
No, but it since you need some amount of math to do both it makes sense to teach the math along with the application. Obviously economics etc would also work.
>I'm also unaware they teach statistics in Finnish primary school?
I think we start teaching basic statistics like coin flips etc somewhere between 3rd and 6th grades.
>it's easier explaining to someone the simple theorems before going to applications
With adults, maybe.
But primary school students are kids, I don't think they mix well with purely theoretical theorems without clear application.
>I still think you should be preparing kids to be able to pursue whatever career they take interest in. That's part of why school is there, and not every job needs studying but it does help if you're trying to get into say engineering.
True, but the main problem is that a primary school student rarely really knows what they want to do when they're in their 30s and if you don't teach a certain foundation of math/etc early it greatly limits their options going forward.

Wait what? Inb4 gender equality classes and why white males are bad. No i don't want to be as cucked as Canada.
Here's another article on Finnish education: qz.com
>Finland is to education what Beyoncé is to music, widely revered and imitated (rarely well).
What.
>Here is a sampling of trials now underway:
>A project to create the country’s most successful gaming room, where kids have access to technology, space, and time to build educational gaming tools
>Uber for parents, a digital tool to enable parents to share their expertise in classrooms across Finland
>Crowdsourced sex ed, with input from students
>Building self-esteem and self-awareness through works of one author
>Triplet, a news service in partnership with Yle, Finland’s state-owned broadcaster, to turn daily news into education material overnight, delivered to teachers’ mobile phones the next morning
>A plan to have every member of parliament spend a day in a K-12 school, to spark dialog about what is happening in the country’s schools
Oh God.
Thanks for the article, Canada.
It looks like this Finnish programme is aimed at smart people who are self-motivated and interested in learning things for their own sake.
If Finland is full of smart people, this will succeed. If it is full of mouth-breathing morons who need info spoon-fed to them, well, it will fail.
My guess is that this will be a win for the Finnish elite. People of average intelligence and below can benefit from a more trade-school-oriented learning.
Finland has a great educational system, I'm sure they know what they're doing. If Alabama decided to enact this then there might be cause for concern.
>If Finland is full of smart people, this will succeed. If it is full of mouth-breathing morons who need info spoon-fed to them, well, it will fail.
They could also import those mouth-breathing morons, like some countries.
>They could also import those mouth-breathing morons, like some countries.
I thought Finland keeps the foreigners out. Is that not true? Finland is not Sweden or Germany when it comes to Syrians and Black Africans.
What the fuck dude, why even go?
...
>I thought Finland keeps the foreigners out. Is that not true?
We've been getting bleed over from Sweden for a while now..
>Finland is not Sweden or Germany when it comes to Syrians and Black Africans.
Southern Finland is crawling with them and it is getting worse, but the population tends to be manageable elsewhere.
Traditional schooling produced educated people with real and useful knowledge, and at the least made sure even the lowest and poorest man could read, write, and work with numbers to a degree, ensuring he could remain part of society and engage fully with the economy at his level.
Modern education produces faggots that do endless useless degrees because everyone gets a degree, has no concept of pass or failure meaning no one had a metric to know how good they are sat something, and thus pushes the idea that everyone is good at everything. This is shown by our current college / university culture.
When was the last time anyone encountered a top quality finish engineer / businessman? Never. Finland as an economy are basically no one. If their education system is so great, how come the country produces no greatness?
You got any idea how many come to Finland? The refugee mentality is basically that the further north you go, the bigger are the gibsmedat.
Finland actually doesn't perform well in hard sciences, maths, etc comparatively speaking with other similar sized and globally ranked education systems.
This. Bring back the academic rigour and structure of the early 20th century and combine it with what we've learnt about neurological development and you will see outstanding results.
Linus Torvalds is one I can think of, and he was pretty important because otherwise Sup Forums would just be a bunch of Windows fags lol
day starts with turning in mandatory spurdo/gondola homework, then the teacher is fucked by a Syrian "10" year old for three hours while the students take painstaking notes, lunchtime: raw fish and a tall glass of snow, the same as every other day, small recess of competitive sauna that ends when at least one student dies, then they come back to class and are instructed to shitpost on Sup Forums for the rest of the day. Utilizing this method we can whittle down the Finnish population until only the best shitposter remains
It doesn't entirely prepare people for adult life it aims to give everyone a standardized set of skills which they use throughout their life.
This is a lie.
t. principal in capital
>scroll down Sup Forums catalog few times a week
>rarely any finland-related news
>but when there are they're always absolutely retarded
why u do dis finland
Actually immigrants stay away from north because there is no jobs. Same way as from northern parts people move to south where is work and only idiots and farmers stay in there while eating farming subdidices from tax euros which south produces
That's so strange.
>This system will be introduced for senior students, beginning at the age of 16. The general idea is that the students ought to choose for themselves which topic or phenomenon they want to study, bearing in mind their ambitions for the future and their capabilities.
They're only introducing it to seniors, it might be alright as it could prepare them for college or an early work career. It sounds similar to selecting a major.
>When was the last time anyone encountered a top quality finish engineer
Go to the saw mills you find plenty of examples also paper factories. Also all the ice-breakers are pretty much Finnish made. But granted while being small nation we can't solve all of the worlds engineering problems
That is just a lie, don't believe it honestly. I am not kidding, it's brainfart from one of the leftist women, not going to happen ever.
ah ok, gl finland

ha. A perfect real-time brainwashing/propaganda-machine.

They're implementing some similar bullshit in France. I guess this is just the leftards' way to implement ebonics and race catering in all subjects including maths.
>science and reason are raaayyycis!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting that we Finns haven't heard anything about it. Sounds like a yuuuuge load of bs.
