Why do liberals advocate so much for solar panels and wind turbines but fail to talk about nuclear power? Nuclear power is obviously the way forward.
Nuclear Power

I consider myself fairly liberal and I shill solar power all the time.
The big problem with the hyper-left is that they don't want to give up anything (sacrifice) and building nuclear power plats is a form of sacrifice, the plants have to go somewhere and hyper-leftists are the "NOT IN MY BACKYARD" kinda person.
GLHF
The support for nuclear power in Germany came to a halt after Hiroshima.
*FUKUshima, lel
There's a lot more carbon involved in solar panels and wind turbines than there is in a nuclear plant..
>not in muh backyard
>muh nuclear waste
>muh nuclear meltdown muh chernobyl muh fukushima
>muh nuclear weapons are also bad
etc
the only good objection to nuclear is the expense
liberal thinks that coal energy generation harm less nature that nuclear plants.
Governments dont want to invest because its a multi billion dollar 20 year commitment and always goes over budget as well as into someone elses term
Then you have to seal the waste away which literally no one wants anywhere near their property as it devalues
Id like to see some smaller reactors but obviously this isnt viable yet.
Statistically, nuclear power is the safest form of power.
Advancements since the last nuclear power plant construction could make newer plants even safer.
While it is true that when there is an accident with nuclear power a lot of people die, the accidents are few and far between, and more people die in the long term with other forms of energy.
With enough nuclear power plants across the globe would could power everything, with extremely low costs, only the cost of maintenance and overhead. No more miners dying in coal mines, no more oil spills, nuclear power straight to electric is where the future is at.
Probably not the only thing that came to halt back then.
Nuclear is scary, and liberals think with their hearts and not their heads.
Nuclear power is the safest form of power statistically. But when things go wrong, they REALLY go wrong.
However, those problems could be solved by carefully planning ahead and enforcing nuclear safety strictly.
>Nuclear power is harmful to the environment. Just look at all that pollution going into the air.
t. every uneducated liberal ever
Nuclear is based
>Then you have to seal the waste away which literally no one wants anywhere near their property as it devalues
No we dont, we have reactors that use spent rods.
>yfw Russia is building a floating nuclear power plant using the power plants from nuclear icebreakers.
So do solar and wind farms, and they take a lot more land
Processing of fuel uses and creates toxic chemicals.
Still there isn't enough freshwater to dam up to increase output when the sun goes behind a could or its calm for the 8th day in a row.
Nuclear>Photoelectric solar
Nuclear>Wind
Nuclear>Tidal
Nuclear
muh fukushima
Thorium based nuclear reactors fixes everything
Not all of the rod can be reused and creates a moxide fuel rod which is not as good as pure 238. Some of the products must be disposed of.
Because solar is relatively benign.
Nuclear power plants require enormous amounts of minerals to create.
There isn't anything wrong with either choice. Just stop eating beef.
>Nuclear power is obviously the way forward.
The waste from nukes is very dangerous in the short term. Storage of radioactive "remains" from these plants creates a serious issue IF something goes wrong in their containment. I would rather see Co2 than the nuke byproducts any day.
It's a great source of energy; however they dislike it for disasters such as Chernobyl, and the whole renewable energy appeals to them.
Chernobyl happened because officials ushered an experiment despite the plant having no nuclear physics in staff
>Nuclear power plants require enormous amounts of minerals to create.
the fug, geologist here
>geologist here
What's your favorite rock?
As a liberal myself, I do support moving us away from fossil fuels and onto nuclear, with renewable resources as backup where and when they are feasible.
Unfortunately, there is opposition to nuclear power on both ends of the spectrum. Conservatives have an obsession, bordering on an outright sexual fetish, for fossil fuels (and coal in particular). My fellow liberals think that the world and technology as they are now can be fully supported by renewable energy. Both are frightened of having another Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, or Fukushima.
>when there is an accident with nuclear power a lot of people die
Fukushima caused no deaths at all.
Fear.
Massive disinformation.
I'm kind of a lukewarmer on global warming, and I don't like pollution but I see it as somewhat necessary for civilization, and I don't think things are as bad as the Greenie types.
People are so irrationally scared of nuclear power. Sure, it has drawbacks. But it actually creates a lot of energy. Wind and solar still kinda suck, and they're hugely expensive. More nuclear, more natural gas (most of the carbon reductions in the U.S. lately have been from the shale gas boom, as natural gas replaces other fossil fuels) try to continue to make progress developing "renewables" but don't put the cart before the horse.
Besides, global warming will probably result in the Earth getting a little warmer but nothing catastrophic. It's becoming obvious that the climate sensitivity numbers were way too high and they will continue to be adjusted down towards reality.
Shouldnt hippies love chernobyl?
The wildlife is doing fantastic.
Iron meteorite cross sections are beautiful.
Because of nuclear waste maybe?
It's true, they are pretty nice.
Nuclear power actually requires a lot more fresh water than other sources of electricity.
Im all for it, but its only really viable in places that are geologically stable and have a lot of readily available fresh water. Places like the great lakes region.
Nuclear is the way to go, all we need to do is find a way neutralize nuclear waste, or at least reduce its half-life
wtf I love reactor meltdowns now
nuclear power is litterally just using steam to turn turbines
Store it properly and it's not a problem. Hell, I think we should just launch it at the sun.
>build a few giant nuclear powerplants
>whole world gets cheap, nearly free energy, even shitholes. Pollution reduced indefinetly.
But.
Its better to sell electricity to rich westerners for horrid prices.
And.
Its even better to make it all green now, thus having a reason to crank the prices up even more.
Its a kikes world
They want their bullshit new energy can be sold.
>THORIUM! THORIUM THORIUM!
When will this meme end?
We need to spam trump asking for this. On twitter, on his new website, etc. If he can be educated about the real advantages, I have no doubt he would try and make it happen. It really is the way forward.
You guys are fuckin idiots bruv.
