You might ask them if there is any evidence to support the theory that blacks are equal to whites. That's an assumption underlying the theory of institutional racism. Since blacks are equal, any inequalities are caused by society. But equality is assumed. There's no evidence for it.

I guess I would point at systems that really did once possess institutional sexism/racism and how quickly that was turned around in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

The two big examples that come to mind are doctors and lawyers. Both used to be boys clubs but now roughly half of the profession are female. Women in the 60s decided these were careers they wanted so they burst through the barriers barely losing stride.

I'd use that as a counter-example to the current outcry that there needs to be more women in IT, that the lack of women entering that field is proof of institutional sexism. But it looks like women self-selected fields of interest going back to the 60s, how is it that they invaded and took over the alpha male smoking rooms of lawfirms with such speed and ease, but somehow they were unable to penetrate the beta male computer science classes? It looks like women simply did not want those jobs so they didn't pursue them.

I'd also point out that women didn't seem to seek out positions in dangerous fields like coal mining and oil extraction, yet there is no call to increase women participation in those fields. It looks like there is less concern about institutional sexism and more concern over securing control over lucrative fields.

And finally I'd point out that the only truly institutionalized sexism and racism in the workplace is the codified benefits that women and minorities receive. Is there hidden sexism and racism? Perhaps, but the only open sexism/racism is in their favor.

None of this matters because the people most in need of the information are not interested in absorbing the information.

I'd suggest the only reason asian poverty is slightly higher than white is that there are more 1st-generation asian immigrants than 1st-gen white immigrants, give them a generation and they're surely tied if not less poverty-stricken than the white population.

The same argument likely holds for hispanics, the black population is multi-generational american while a goodly portion of the hispanic population is early-gen immigrant.

But really, the asian situation blows the institutional racism argument out of the water. Unless you're willing to label asians as "white" which I'm increasingly seeing the regressive-left doing the mental gymnastics trying to pull off. Apparently white people don't hate different races, they hate darker-skinned different races and asians slip through our racism-filter goggles.

I like to think there is hope for everyone, I was a liberal at one point and even though I was fairly moderate (and young) I ended up almost going full SJW talking points.

As unpopular as atheism is around here, I really do think that the "skeptic" mentality helps to uncover are sort of cognitive dissonance in other areas like liberalism.
