I want to get into WarHammer, where do i start?
I'm fine with this.
there's like a 300 dollar entrance fee. You can also look up lore videos or read articles on 1d4chan. Dawn of War series is great if you like vidya.
1d4chan
That's a /tg/ question, the 40k General will be infinitely more helpful, however I'm happy to help anyone get in on it!
First things to consider:
>what do you like?; are you in it for the fluff, the models, the painting, the gaming? What's important for you?
>who do I like?; you'll be dropping a fuckload of money if you're serious, so pick carefully. Read up on rules and lore, as well as playstyles and models, before you go in. Space Marines are considered the most palpable start.
>And how to play?; Again, /tg/ (but don't fucking meme it up, 'Lord Kek' or any of that political shit stays out. No more discussion on that.) will have the ruoebooks, stories, and everything you'll need to get into it, but you will need to find a local gaming store to work with. Not only are the prices better, the people tend to be a lot different- like, sweaty, unwashed 400lb. Neckbeards vs. Chill Vets who like tiny plastic dudes level of difference- so find one near you, the atmosphere will be better.
Here's the current /40kg/, DON'T MEME IT UP. Just ask a few questions and proceed nicely. But read the damn books first, they'll tell you the same 'who do you like, what do you like' shit. Download MEGA and get reading.
So user, which army are you looking at?
Pick a race and get yourself their codex. Then go to 1d4chan and read the articles on your factoon
have a shit ton of disposable money
If you know nothing at all about Warhammer 40K, watch these.
MORE SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE
Look around at the lore and looks of the armies, choose one you like, buy/pirate the rulebook amd codex for your army, make a list you like, and work towards it. Watch Duncan of Warhammer TV's painting guides and get good at painting with patience and practice.
Don't ever choose Tau, or else.
It's really expensive, mate. I currently prefer 30k and Blood Bowl. 30k for it just being better balanced, and somewhat more interesting to me, and Blood Bowl because Pic Related.
I used to play Warhammer (40k) but there were no cute girls to play with, only weirdo dudes so I stopped
>Don't ever choose Tau
What's wrong with them?
The orks are da best!!!
Their fluff, and their rules.
Fluffwise, they're too lighthearted for the setting. And they always win ever engagement they're in, to the point where losing several planets means nothing to them as they can easily just get them back.
That shouldn't happen.
The Tau empire is smaller than a lot of other Xenos empires mentioned in the fluff. It's ridiculous that they're even an army to begin with because of this! The Tau are supposed to be a conglomerate of species working together, but you almost mever see Kroot, Vespid, or the 12, iirc, other species that they work alongside with. It's both saddening and maddening!
And their tabletop rules are just horribly overpowered, with all of their suits being Monstrous Creatures instead of Walkers, a huge amount of their units being undercosted, and their weapons and abilities like markerlights boosting them up to almost Eldar tier.
If ever a race did not belong in 40k, it would be the Tau. Never mind the fact that they were quite literally invented to pander to the Mecha craze that was going on when they were new.
Veer wildly from the theme of 40k, no grimdark or good melee, plus the whole "good guy" thing gets really stupid really, really quick. Plus the players tend to be power gamers and assholeish weebs, so places where 40k people meet gets lots of "hur dur but da tau is da besteesst,,!!!!111!!!one,,,1!1!", lots of funny stuff has come from it though.
They're very good in casual games, and the fluff is just a society of Mary Sues that never lose and always look 'awesome' doing it for no good reason. Or any reason, as a matter of fact.
Space commies that don't use melee.
>Tau
>Overpowered
>Tournaments say otherwise
They're casual-tier powerful, the second someone grabs real power like GSC, pre-FAQ War Convo, Tzeentch summoning, or the limitless wonders of SMs with formations or just Eldar.
Don't get me wrong, they need to be walkers, but they aren't the best codex. Just one horribly broken for friendly environments. Vespids are pretty cool though
An example of Mary Sue Tau fluff is that they managed to crack the Codex Astartes by merely studying the battles against a Space Marine chapter, then in the next battle against them they were able to easily defeat them and the main character of the piece 360-no scoped a marine that was sneaking up on him while he was chatting with an apothecary who was recovering gene-seed, which he then correctly assumed was important to creating Astartes.
I really hate the Tau.
Yeah, it's that same feeling I get when I try to watch Sherlock. Like the thing I'm seeing is cool, and it is 'explained', but it always feels like the character gets where he needs to because lolwritersaysso.
To defeat a heretic, you need the Wolf King
if you don't have access to a reasonable income, it's not really worth even starting.
Glory be to the Farsight Enclaves!
