Does anyone here know a good way to learn another language?

I was trying to learn Russian, but I couldn't really find any good way to do it.

have you looked up the pimsular method?

Just did. Is there a way to get it for free?

Go for actual lessons held by native speakers. Only reliable way

Learning another language is actually very easy if you have enough time & money.

no idea. i heard an AM radio advertisement for language learning 20 years ago that mentioned it and just wanted to sound like I knew what I was talking about ITT.

Russian embassy holds classes, here anyway

You can torrent it

The best way is lessons from a native speaker.

You can usually "audit" university/college courses where you take the course like anyone else, but pay a lot less (say 10% or 25%) and don't get any credit toward a degree. Another option is classes from the embassy or local cultural organization.

Agreed. Pimsleur is by far the best method for self study where the focus is on speaking.

People say that it doesn't focus on vocab that much. Is that true, and if so, is thete a way to get a better vocabulary while using it?

Watch Chinese cartoons with russkie subs. Play 2ch.ru VNs. Shitpost on their boards too.

I'm on a new device so my ID changed

free app called duo lingo is pretty nice

I was thinking about going on Russian pol if there is one.

Never really liked it. It doesn't pick up on grammar and it doesn't focus on conversations.

Learning Russian is pretty cool.

Yeah now that you say it, I think you're right. But you could balance it out with a book like this. I know it's Italian, but just mentioning it as what I used for Italian along with Pimsleur. I'm sure a Russian equivalent exists.

Rosetta Stone + watch TV in Russian + speak on a regular basis even if you stumble over your words...I literally learned Spanish just by watching telenovelas

Nice try, Putin

I would love to learn Russian.

I never liked Rosetta Stone. Ik you can pirate it but it's extremely expensive, doesn't focus on grammar, and doesn't have mucb vocab.

Rosetta Stone is worse than a Bernie Sanders facesitting video.

I don't know about other languages, but I'm learning Croatian from this really great website. It outlines things really easily and still updates.

Well, if you want to be FBI specop or astronaut you gotta learn Russian.
Just fucking visit any courses, pretty sure Russian communities run free courses.

Well. I could teach anybody (I even have a pedagogical degree, but in other subject), but not for free, and there are sure better options for you, both online and offline.

>(I even have a pedagogical degree, but in other subject)

A degree in communist Indoctrination from the Leonid Brezhnev University of the Jewish Autonomous Oblast.

No, worse. Music pedagogue.

Duolingo has a Russian course. I haven't tried it, but I've done a few of the other courses and they're generally pretty good for teaching the basics

Memrise also has a bunch of Russian related stuff.

I'd suggest starting out with these, then when you have a grasp on the basics, try conversing with some Russians on Sup Forums and see how well you can understand them. If you do okay you may be able to continue learning purely by having conversations with native speakers and reading Russian literature. Sup Forums can also help you find Russians to skype with to build your skill with the spoken language.

In fact, why didn't you ask this question on Sup Forums?

> In fact, why didn't you ask this question on Sup Forums?
Because people, who are usually asking "how do I start" or especially "how much time does it take to accomplish X" tend not to accomplish anything, not even start.

Hard work and dedication like everything else in life.

Just make sure that you're consistent with practice.
If you do one hour a day for a year, you'll at least be able to communicate on a basic level

Go here. He has some great advice. If you like it pick up his book.

no, but I can guarantee that your time would be better spent on another skill, and that you are effectively wasting time.

Dear Friends
I am an Australian lady learning to speak Russian. Duolingo (free app) has an English Russian course. It is useful for learning the alphabet. However, you should save yourself several months and download Michel Thomas's course in English Russian. There is a foundation course and an advanced course. The foundation you can torrent, however I was only able to get the Advanced course from this website p30download.me/michel-thomas-russian-mp3-download/ . Trust me, this method is so much easier. I learnt more in 2 hours than in several months of my own study. Enjoy and happy learning.

Also: Praise Kek.

>CYKA BLYAT, YA WANKA

Its CУКA БЛЯTЬ , you are bad at Russian. Try harder, comrade.

Ёб TBOЮ MATЬ.

>didn't even get a (You)
Sad.

But yeah, I know. I started learning the Russian alphabet literally yesterday. I don't have the keyboard installed on my computer.

I speak Czech conversationally and Russian fluently. Started learning as a teenager, took a couple classes in college (Russian). They didn't help much.

Unless you get really lucky and find a good one -- and your fellow students are as important as your professor in this -- classes (as in ones taught in a typical classroom setting) fucking suck. Pay for a couple one-on-one lessons with a native speaker instead. It's way less of a waste of your time. It's cheaper too. There are websites dedicated to that, italki is one of them. Sharedtalk is another.

Audio tapes and textbooks are OK for picking up the absolute basics but they won't carry you very far. They make for a nice and gentle introduction if you've never tried learning a foreign language before but sooner or later (preferably sooner) you're going to have to open your mouth and make actual Russian sounds at an actual Russian person, not at a tape.

cont'd in post below, I had to split this up because Sup Forums decided my post was spam -- maybe because I have links to Russian websites? I have no idea.

Its cool you are learning Russian. Putin's wisdom is lost in translation.

Would you recommend a Russian pen-pal or chatrooms?

just google russian alphabet and copypasta.

>classes (as in ones taught in a typical classroom setting) fucking suck
As a person who went to French immersion school in elementary, I can confirm this. All it did was give me the worst accent in French ever because I was immersed into a class of other people who were just starting to learn.

Redirecting this thread....

What's the best language to learn?

Kinda feels like Spanish is the only one that's remotely useful

- Easiness
- Usefulness
- Widespread

>play csgo
>Rush B with ruskie
>send friend request to your ruskie friend.
> penpal+1

live in a community of Russophones is the correct answer

Widespread?

Soon to decline in America.

Is that why Canadians don't know how to speak french words correctly?

duolingo - great free app

Most probably.

>Memrise
This

Fucking hell. Your country should burn to the ground. Not just Alberta this time.

English, Spanish, and Russian are the only non-meme European languages.

Learning any of those three is a very good choice.
