Regarding the media, did the practically all control of the US MSM help Clinton? Many people can see through propaganda. Russia has many alternative news that practically show the same bs they show in the west (Dozhd, Vedomosti, RBK, Lenta, Novaya Gazeta, etc.), not to mention an incredible number of news sources in the west that are targeted at Russian audience (Russian BBC, Russian Euronews, DW, Hartiya97, Meduza, Delfi, Radio Liberty/Svoboda, Ukrainian sources). None of them are blocked in Russia. The problem for the west is that the truth is not their side on a number of important issues (MH17, Ukraine, Syria)...
Just like in other countries (e.g., UK, Germany), there is state run media. I can only imagine the chaos that the rich outsiders could create in Russia by controlling all of the Russian media... So having a state-run media is much more important for Russia when you consider the resources of the enemies that she is facing.
Most of the problems in Russia have to do with much lower salaries in comparison to western EU or US (especially now thanks to falling oil prices and sanctions), rather than freedom of speech or any other issues (except maybe climate)...

What story? Russia never officially stated that it was shot down by either Buk or the plane at any point. They showed what data they have and that's it. Everything else what you saw is "special interpretation" of the western (and your local) media.

Like I said, Russia officially has not said what the weapon was used or who was responsible. It can't, because they are not part of the investigation and do not have access (at least official) to the shrapnel from the missile to conduct a metallurgical analysis.
There was a leak in 2015. According to the anonymous leak, it was Su-25KM equipped with Python 4 or 5 missiles. It also stated that it was impossible to know this for sure without having access to the shrapnel (which Russia officially does not) and the technical documentation of all foreign missiles.

You realize these accidents have little in common? There was no denial from the USSR that they shot it down. The Korean plane flew through Russian territory, was intercepted and did not answer to any communication. The USSR thought it was a spy plane and the pilot was ordered to shoot it down from the command center as the military plane was running out of fuel. It was not the pilot's initiative.
Probably a closer incident would be with the one that happened around 15 years ago, where a Russian jet was shot down by accident with S-200. MH17, however, was shot down on purpose because of this big geopolitical game (someone needed all EU countries to impose sanctions on Russian banks).

Normally any area of conflict has a flight prohibition zone that is relayed to all airlines. There are many no-go commercial flight zones on the planet like Syria. Any plane in a war zone is a obvious and legitimate target; it could be a bomber, drone, AWAC or gunship.
