The fuck is Silent Voice? Was it released in theaters?

Yes

Did they fix the manga's ending? If no, then boss baby is better

Must’ve been shit then. I literally live across the street from an IMAX theatre and I’ve never seen any adverts.

>weeb shit

Surely anything is better than fucking Boss Baby

Cartoons are for kids, whoever decides these prices doesnt give a single shit about these movies and chooses based on what their kids have told them.

Why do people still give a damn about the fucking Oscars? Everyone knows the process is bullshit, but rather than just ignoring it and letting it fade in relevance, they feel the need to try and change it, which just reinforces its importance.

I want to wrap my hands around Shouko's throat and see how silent she can be as I pound her pussy into oblivion.

Most people shouldn't care about the Oscars award for animation in general, but why the FUCK do ANIME fans give even half a shit about Oscars?

>The Boss Baby
>The Breadwinner
>Coco
>Ferdinand
>Loving Vincent
Wew, I know the Academy was a joke, but to actively avoid actually good animated films just shows how far up their asses they are.

The joint pirate imagination bit on the plane was super comfy and reminded me when my bro and I used to do stuff like that with whatever was nearby

Reading the plot for A Silent Voice, it sounds pretty awful, but probably not Boss Baby awful.

The Oscars is just a blockbuster equivalent of award ceremonies.

Also, have you considered the possibility that films were either not eligible or not submitted for nomination? It's not like the Academy is going to reach out to the makers of "Silent Voice" - filmmakers need to submit the film first. That's why there's usually the whole "For Your Consideration" campaign.

I haven't seen it, but I did read it. Made me cry.

The film just seems to have cut the filler.

As a work of creative imagination, The Boss Baby is a good example of the ability for animators to convey whatever images they feel are necessary to tell a story.

But it's wasted on such an insipid story that it's almost a futile endeavour if not for the zen ideal of the experience. It's like how the "Cars" movies are excellent scenery porn from Pixar.

They had 26 films up for consideration:

The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales
Birdboy: The Forgotten Children
The Boss Baby
The Breadwinner
Captain Underpants The First Epic Movie
Cars 3
Cinderella the Cat
Coco
Despicable Me 3
The Emoji Movie
Ethel & Ernest
Ferdinand
The Girl without Hands
In This Corner of the World
The Lego Batman Movie
The Lego Ninjago Movie
Loving Vincent
Mary and the Witch’s Flower
Moomins and the Winter Wonderland
My Entire High School Sinking into the Sea
Napping Princess
A Silent Voice
Smurfs: The Lost Village
The Star
Sword Art Online: The Movie – Ordinal Scale
Window Horses The Poetic Persian Epiphany of Rosie Ming

>Boss Baby beat the Lego Batman Movie

okay NOW I'm pissed.

Now that you put it that way... Wow.

A silent voice is completely ruined by Shoko, the deaf girl. She's literally a waifu and nothing else. The character has 0 personality traits and her being around a bunch of threedimensional characters is so off-putting and I hate that movie so much.

>ferdinand and boss baby beat captain underpants, mary and the witch's flower, a silent voice and the lego batman movie

Anime movies generally don't get much advertising.

>liking media from Japan that is not video games

Every fucking Japanese movie I have seen in the past 2 years has had almost every character be as flat as cardboard

can Japan not into characters anymore?

>liking (not even an art form) video games

>Lego Batman won't win oscar gold
Damn shame, best Batman movie in ages.

Reminder that no one in the Academy actually watches these movies.

cartoonbrew.com/award-season-focus/proof-that-oscar-voters-are-clueless-about-animation-109456.html

I wish an anime movie would win an Oscar, but only if it's SOA, just to see Sup Forums squirm

>A Moomin movie lost to Boss Baby

Looking at the list, this was actually a pretty good year for animation, even if it's not reflected in the nominations at all.

Studios pay for advertising.

Literally half the budget of films from Hollywood are used in marketing.

>still no torrents or even camrips of Mary and the Witch's Flower

>Birdboy: The Forgotten Children
>youtube.com/watch?v=QbPj4cxqTTU
Looks good.

It was also a blatant ploy to rush together some pathos for the character when they realized they completely neglected doing so in the first 2/3rds of the movie just so they could have a dramatic and out-of-place "call-back" five minutes later.

The movie might have been cute but it was horribly-paced and clearly designed by committee.

but the cast was not flat, just one character
and that character singlehandly ruined the movie

fuck, ive been waiting to see that since the summer

wait...
Coco lost to boss baby?????

I'm not even mad screw Pixar

I would see it in theaters but the nearest place playing it is 2 hours away. And I also hate theaters.

No, that's including the ones that got nominated.

I think Shouko was fine. The first half of the story I was worried that she was indeed just a loathsome waifu, but nah. She turned out to be legitimately fucked up.

I know weebs find that suicidal shit appealing because "I just have to be nice and I can save them". No. She was in bad shape, and not in the kawaii way.

You do realize that even animators know how dumb awards are right? Did you forget that Batman Beyond's only Emmy is from a dumb simulation baby plot that they even admitted was intended to be Emmybait?

Koe no Katachi visually gorgeous. One major complaint I would have would be that the adaptation of the manga skimped out on a lot of the side character's development, after the time skip.

The people who voted for this category voted for whatever they're actually familiar with, meaning they voted for whatever they took their kids to see. Boss Baby may be a steaming pile of shit, but those Hollywood fucks are definitely more partial to Alec Baldwin voicing a silly role than a filthy chink film with chink voice acting.

I wish they were required to watch the all the films before being allowed to vote.

Here you go fags

>a movie that pretty much embodies what's wrong with animation in the west nowadays, that's also filled with fetish fuel
>an anime movie
You really gonna make me choose between these?

This is insane. Loving Vincent and Breadwinner prove that they were looking at other countries animation and yet they still come up with Ferdinand and fucking Boss Baby? Coco I can understand because it's Pixar, but seriously, this is ridiculous.

I'm just glad that a 2D western film got some attention this time. We could always use some more of those.

user...

>I know weebs find that suicidal shit appealing because "I just have to be nice and I can save them". No. She was in bad shape, and not in the kawaii way.

Weebs love everything as long as it's anime

You could make them choose between Citizen Kane and some mediocre anime movie and they will always take the anime one

fuck weebs, I am glad 99% of them are not passing on thier genes

He is right. Cartoon Saloon is Irish.

>exposure = quality
Well shit, I guess Transformers 27 was the best movie ever.

>Boss Baby and Ferdinand over Lego Batman and Captain Underpants
do they even movies

>liking art

I read the first few volumes of that manga and thought it was decent but nothing amazing.

People forget Alec Baldwin voiced the baby and therefore, being Alec Baldwin, automatically elevated the animated feature to Oscar quality because the Oscars is a big club and they vote for their friends and sometimes vote for a movie about a subject they want everyone else to know they're interested in, like Muslims. Muslims are popular accessories these days, though they are getting overshadowed lately by abused women.

>tfw the academy probably skipped over Captain Underpants because they assumed from the title alone that it was too immature for their sophisticated and intricate tastes
>They go ahead and nominate fucking Boss Baby because one of their kids saw it

Animated movie awards are mostly for kids, that's it, so kids watch a movie they enjoyed winning an award, and they can grow to like the oscars.

Oh boy, I wonder if Pixar is going to win.

Alec Baldwin deserves an Oscar, this is a fact.
But for such shitty movie on a joke category

Watching a bunch of liars and pretenders pat themselves on the backs and the winners are the ones who suck a mean dick.

>I never heard of it, so it must have been shit
kys

Look at all that trash.
They should just eliminate the category and disallow anything animated or CGI.

it's a ghetto award, they dont want cartoons to ever compete against real movie anytime again.

Alec Baldwin is a god damn child in a 60 year old's body. He's not ready for that reward.

Because they assume that when sub par western animated releases happen, they'll get a spirited away repeat.

They will not. Studio Ghibli had to do many films before Spirited away was recognised, and the academy gives less of a shit about animation than any other genre. Maybe when horror joins as it's own prize, it won't be treated with scorn anymore.

Until then...

Boss Baby is, it doesn't need to be said, a piece of shit. But Silent Voice was mediocre after it's first act.

It's kind of sad to see both Captain Underpants AND Lego Batman get snubbed. Does anyone have that "Captain Underpants and the No Nomination Abomination" image that one of the DW staff drew?

Why though? Why would the academy be jealous of cartoons?

Is this the galish orcs one? Or is my mind playing me tricks.

Reminder that this isn't just anime shit getting shat on. MLP shit didn't get a place there either and no one isn't talking about that even though it's been a long fucking time since we had a nice looking 2D movie. Just shows that oscars only gives a shit about CGI shit for some reason. Not sure what's so interesting about it, it's overused. Now Hasbro is planning to make a second MLP movie and this time it will be CGI shit too according to leaks.

tsumino.com/Book/Info/27226/orc-musume-wa-ikemen-ga-o-suki-orc-girls-love-handsome-guys-

You are correct sir

Reminder that the Animation award is only a thing because people got buttmad over Beauty and the Beast being nominated for Best Picture so they created a containment category that no one in the academy takes seriously. Also reminder that the Oscars are cancer and are 100% used to push ideologies and virtue signal.

>I know weebs find that suicidal shit appealing because "I just have to be nice and I can save them". No. She was in bad shape, and not in the kawaii way.
No, come on.
Shoko was a Chii from chobits. She was bullied in a very mean way and still wanted to be friends with the kid, but not in a way that felt realistic. Later when she's acting like a normal person and avoids him, she forgives him so fast my neck almost snaps. Later the character remains bland and boring and the story feeds you a couple of lines about her depression now and then for drama sake but we don't see her being depressed or with low self-steem.
Shoko was terribly written. She was pure waifubait and completely ruined the movie because of that.

(You)

>Crunchy hacks still mad the girl w/ disabilities show #2344

Try to watch more movies: at least Boss Baby had animation and made children laugh

You know, laughter: the point of cartoon movies?

>laughter: the point of cartoon movies

>he posts this on every media board he can
>people still fall for it

>Birdboy
AAAAH I FORGOT It's playing it's last showing an hour away RIGHT NOW. I've been waiting like a year to watch this.

Then they should create a separate category for Best Children's Movie and leave animation alone.

My fellow man of culture.

>Animated movie awards are mostly for kids
>Anomalisa managed to get nominated

grotesque cute style was disgusting.
I showed my 4th graders Boss baby just to give me a break, that shit heap was just 90 minutes of fart and ass jokes. How is this garbage nominated for Oscars when you know it'll be quickly forgotten with 5 years unlike classic Disney movies like Lion King, Beauty and The Beast etc.

>laughter: the point of cartoon movies?
mate you never seen Plague Dogs or Secret of NIMH?

That was quite an anomaly.

Yes, it has better drama AND better jokes.

Silent Voice has just awful people being jerks to each other that you want to punch in their dumb faces.

>You know, laughter: the point of cartoon movies?
I know it's bait but it still annoys me that this is a real mentality in the US.

>Plague Dogs
Sounds gay, there's probably a reason no-one cares about it
>Secret of NIMH
Garbage, like most euro animation.

There was specifically a big uproar years ago when an interview with the Academy revealed they didn't even watch any of the animated entries and just went with whatever they thought sounded about right (for example just give it to Pixar if one was available because they're heard people say Pixar was good without watching the movies). One guy was talking about how he just dropped his toddler off to watch the films alone while he left to make phone calls and shit. This was surprising and I suspect the real story is most of them don't watch any of the movies animated or no or just a handful then go with what their rich friends or the companies say to. The Oscars is a huge sham.

>dreamworks 'sponsors' the oscars, weeb studio doesn't

there's your answer
stop pretending the oscars aren't business investments, until the weeb studios start pouring money in their pockets, they will not even be close to considered

It's already out on cinemas in the US.
And the 4K Ultra HD release (as well as the Blu-ray, of course) will come out in March in Japan.

...

The Oscars are entirely run by normie scum who Don t watch even 25% of the movies nominated. The animated category is based entirely on things theyve heard of. It'd be like a restaurant award based only on what fast food places are within 2 miles of the voter's house.

They have some good movies and books. Only the typical weeb shit is bad.

>says the guy with a filthy frank avatar picture

that's filthy frank himself though

...

You tried.

The reason BB got the nomination is because the voters saw it, and didn't see SV. The voters don't watch every movie, so the popular shit gets in.
