RIP Mort Walker (1923 - 2017)

Creator of "Beetle Bailey" and other comic strips passed away this morning, aged 94.

His career spanned eight decades and he was one of the world's most-read cartoonists.

I'll be storytiming an early Beetle Bailey paperback and maybe some other things.

Thank you.

I remember liking Beetle Bailey when my newspaper actually had it. At least he lived a full, successful life.

I guess he wasn't imMORTal.

Isn't his son doing the strip now?

...

>Isn't his son doing the strip now?
Has been doing it since the late 90's, at least.

Mort kept a watchful eye on production until failing health prevented him.

Did Beetle Bailey ever actually get deployed into combat?

Absolutely disgusting the lack of respect Sup Forums is showing for this comic strip giant. Thank you for the taking the time to make this thread, OP, and to storytime this paperback. I grew up on Beetle Bailey, so it really warms my heart to see this thread. :)

Sad to hear. Actually met him at a convention a long time ago when I was just a kid. Very genuine and sweet guy, he was impressed that I knew so much about him and his strip (I had been reading about him in one of my books about comic history). He drew me a picture of Beetle Bailey in my sketchbook and signed it, I have no idea what I did with it, it might be in my attic somewhere. F
