DC just announced that Alan Moore is writting Twilight of the Superheroes as a Elseworlds

How hyped are you?
in case you don't know what that is

We've got 'injustice' ongoing for out of character misery porn. I'm sure we can jack off John Constantine too.

Better Injustice than Injustice desu, and like Alan said, there's lots of potential for merchandise there.

>it's a "edgy fucks turn Billy into a degenerate because they cannot countenance a wholesome character" issue

Kinda defeats the purpose for why he wanted to do it in the first place, which was to give a defined end point for the DC Universe to make forward reference to or ignore depending on the individual writers ideas, similar to how The Dark Knight Returns could be seen as the end point of Batman.

As well, Moore would probably change a lot about it to fit his current ideas about comic books and the world we live in, given that the original pitch was made during a time he admits he wasnt very happy during, which is what influenced certain decisions while writing things like the Killing Joke and Watchmen.

I would become a degenerate if I got superpowers.

With how insane recent events have been, you actually made me fucking check.

One of the reasons I really dont consider Kingdom Come a proper reconstruction is that it does a variation of this shit as well. It complains about the darker state of comics but fails to provide an alternative, instead having the noble heroes of the are be corrupted or act like assholes while no new heroes emerge to properly fill their shoes.

Kingdom Come is boils down to NUT MUH HEROES

Watchmen was a mistake.

i'm so pissed i fell for it.

like maybe that's why his shit has been showing up that was a trade

he's doing another volume of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen this year as his last comic work.

I'm still going to read it even though i lost hope after volume 3 that i was interested in the same things as him.

>i hate superheroes. Read this story about a lady fucking a fish monster!! Praise the SNAKE GODSSSS

Neonomicon was pure shit but you should pick up Providence

This desu. Doomsday Clock is what comics need.

I'd read it. Alan Moore's worst is better than best of hacks like Snyder, Bendis, Waid and Johns.

Can we please get the fuck over this deconstruction whoreshit? Are superheroes just not allowed to be weirdoes in silly costumes who want to help people? No, because this is a dead serious concept that needs to be treated with absolute seriousness.

This. Even Evangelion's influence hasn't lasted this long. The mecha genre pretty quickly went "Yeah, that's all well and good, but giant robots are still cool as fuck, so...". Enough with this beware the superman crap already.

Yeah, Moore's a hack, none of his works can stand up to classics like "Wonder Woman's Bondage Adventure in Venus"!!!

You fucking bastard, I believed you. I'd been thinking about this story all week and this would have been so fucking cool if it was real. I wonder if DC asked Moore to write it, no strings attached, if he'd do it.

Providence is so goddamned good it makes Neonomicon almost worth reading just for the final issue tie in.

No, clearly they're all secretly self-obsessed maniacs or gay (it's fine to be gay, the writer says, while snickering into his sleeve at these men in their tight clothes.) or perverts or just jerks.

Man Moore does the SAME THING with books he doesn't like in the last League bit, only with all the subtly and grace of his calling the lovecraftian porn trend.

You're right, "Incest adventures with Captain Marvel!" is such a literary achievement.

no, tell me we are getting a thunderworld ongoing and i will squeal like a teenage girl at a boy band concert and i'm a 30 year old man.

>Defined end point
>Ends with John Constantine stopping the timeline from happening by fucking himself over

What did user mean by this?

>Thunderworld cuts itself off from the metaplot because it's literally too good and pure to be corrupted by bullshit stories
This timeline is cursed.

>Get the fuck over this deconstruction whoreshit?

Did you read Tom Strong, Supreme, and Top Ten? Moore got over it a longggggg time ago while the powers that be produced stuff like Time Runs Out and Identity Crisis.

>Cuts itself off

More like leads the charge in defeating the Gentry.

Mary is a member of Justice Incarnate and they killed a Hellmachine attacked the House of Heroes by throwing Sivana's artificial Rock of Eternity at it.

>Literally INTO THE TRASH IT GOES for the cosmic edgelord evil

Reminder this was happening while the Marvel Multiverse got BTFO by the Beyonders.

I'm surprised he's willing to work with them at all while they're forcing Watchmen into the main universe.

It's not real

Why can't we have ongoings about the other earths?

Except the trend is reconstruction now, and it's a lot worse than deconstruction. It does nothing but allows creators to be lazy and unimaginative because according to them superheroes are all about being comfy, bland, quirky and lolsrandom.

Sure why not?

Do you think people who think "Watchmen was a mistake and Doomsday clock will fix it" or "reconstruction is the dominant force is genre" are even comic fans? They're just rebirth fans who started with rebirth and eat up whatever cereal hack tells them.

>Alan Moore
>Writing for DC
>Even as Doomsday Clock is still ongoing
What the hell did they do to get him on board? Didn't Moore basically wash his hands of them after DC screwed him over twice?

OP's baiting

It's funny because Johns has honestly done more to try and Edgelord up comics than Moore ever has.

Moore's Tom Strong and Supreme alone balances out Watchmen and Miraleman.

Johns has Wendy and Marvin getting devoured by Wonderdog and Superboy Prime going full edgelord in a thinly veiled swipe against people that thought DC going full edge with Infinite Crisis and Dr. Rape and not bringing back the multiverse were mistakes. "They aren't MY world! They aren't MY heroes!"

Then he brings back the multiverse anyway.

Then he ret-kills the Post-Crisis continuity so his fuck buddy Jim Lee can remake DC continuity by grafting concepts from Wildstorm onto it.

Then he backpedals like a motherfucker on Nu when it turns out people didn't like mixing Wildstorm flavored cynicism with DC (Jo'zz leaving the league for Stormwatch anybody?)

Now he's going "No the edgy cancer infesting comics isn't MY fault it's Alan Moore's fault for writing Watchmen. See-Dr. Manhattan took a year of time away from everyone and that's why Johnny Thunder is in a nursing home and Saturn Girl is in Arkham and why the JSA are somefuckingwhere!"

Doomsday Clock is Johns projecting his own failings as a writer onto Alan Moore, and its a shame because not only is he not 1/10th as good a writer as Moore is he's also not 1/10th the optimist.

>Are superheroes just not allowed to be weirdoes in silly costumes who want to help people?
But why limit the writing to something so simple? I can understand wanting some comfort stories but what you're describing doesn't have a lot of depth. That's not to say you can't have a well written traditional superhero story just that you need to add at least something extra to it in order to spice it up.

What I really want is an adaptation of the Superman Lives script. It's fucking crazy but filled with some really interesting ideas. It could totally work as an animated movie with Burton at the helm again.

Is Miracleman even really something can be considered edgy? Sure, the Kid Miracleman stuff is a bit gorey but the story and main theme is ultimately an optimistic take on superheroes becoming gods.

I was hoping they'd turn it into a movie prior to making it as a comic.

It would be interesting and maybe the trick they need to start making good movies.

Yeah, no.

Wow that Captain Marvel costume is awful. Was it really necessary to have the thunderbolt extend to his crotch? And have the bulge be super noticeable on top of that?

>Miracleman
>Optimistic

Are we reading the same fucking book?

The problem with that analysis is that it comes after decades of character development for the older heroes. A lot of blame is placed on the outside execs, but most of what they did was nothing new in the comic industry. It's essentially been ingrained in the comic industry from the beginning to chase market trends and popular fads as hard as possible. Look at the Golden Age, with its dozens of interchangeable, shallow heroes and not-quite-plagiarism. Sticking to the Silver Age you've got the Flash, which as a franchise ran entirely on "get superpowers, become a hero/villain because." Silver Age Wally had more of a motivation for being a hero than Barry did. Captain America being added to the Avengers was essentially a gimmick. Even as late as the mid-70s they were fad chasing with Calculator.

>WHY did they need to dress so silly?
Are you telling me that bat fursuits, strongman tights, and one-piece bikinis aren't silly? What a bunch of nostalgia-clouded drivel.

If you think it was optimistic you didn't understand what happened in the last chapter. Even Gaiman's Golden Age and some stories in the Miracleman Apocrypha make the message more blatant.

It's not official. It's a series of commissions where someone decided to go get prior collaborators of Moore's to illustrated parts of the Twilight proposal.

Yeah it really does come down to " not muh" where Ross was just blind to the fact that kids liked the new stuff.

Also Kingdome Come took so long to come out that the 90's extreme was already dying on its own

my big issue is that one of the central themes of Kingdom Come, the conflict between Human and Superhuman gets made meaningless when 99% of the Superhuman population gets killed off(this similarly ruins the generational conflict that brings up) as there isn't enough of them left for that issue to have any teeth to it(it's really obvious in hindsight that Ross & Waid had no idea how to resolve this in any reasonable way so they went with the seemingly impressive but actually shallow and cheap ending they used)

also I wouldn't be surprised if the Kingdom Come Earth just gets raped in some future Crisis event cause it has like a dozen heroes left

I want it to be canon, not elseworlds.
