Science or magic?

Science or magic?

Science. Even when science goes wrong, it was your creation. Every goddamn magic user always has some type of boss or source that controls an element of their powers. If I had power, I don't need some fucking CEO asshole always peaking in on my shenanigans.

You still get your funding from somewhere, user.

but science does have a boss.
They're called investors

one day we will figure out how to split the love atom!

Yeah... in the end you don't have to be told what to do by some higher being or eldritch abomination. Nope, your line of work makes you a bitch to the government for those sweet sweet dollar bills, or euro, or whatever country.

Depends. Which one will allow me to shrink myself most effectively?

I think the assumption is that both Science and Magic have equal chances of fucking you up

The source of your magic depends on what kind of magic user you are.

Bard - Music magic. Magic comes from your ability to preform songs.

Cleric - Faith magic. Magic is a reward from your God for being pious.

Druid - Nature magic. Magic is a reward from mother nature for being so ecofriendly.

Sorcerer - Hereditary magic. Magical blood line, probably have some sort of magical creature in your family tree.

Warlock - Pact magic. Made a deal with some sort of magical entity.

Wizard - Scholarly magic. A deep understanding and study of magic allows you to use it.

>Scholarly magic. A deep understanding and study of magic allows you to use it.
So... magic science?

>Science or magic?
Yes

Technically speaking, magic IS science.

In mighty avengers Hank Pym says something like "Magic is just science we don't understand yet". Can't find a screencap but I had a lot of that run as a kid and i loved it

this question is why Forge from the X-Men is an omega level mutant

rusty uses magic in his experiments sometimes

A better question is why "knowing how to build stuff" is a mutant power in the first place, and why does every native american character also know spirit magic

It says a lot about the Ventures world that Rusty was just able to acquire a little orphan boy seemingly with no questions asked, even Brock seemed ok with it

>Mighty Avengers was long enough ago now that someone can say they loved it "as a kid"

Oh god. I'm not even that old.

Forge doesn't actually "know" how to build stuff.

The way his power works is he just kind of throws shit together with his brain on autopilot, has no idea how the fuck he did it, and has to reverse-engineer his own inventions in order to understand or replicate them.

it wouldnt make sense for that to be a problem, there are crazy people with dangerous weapons running around and its perfectly legal as long as they follow some vague rules

>Forge making himself breakfast
>Now how the hell did I manage to make this omelette

Science has better practicality but magic has lewder waifus
I like "super scientist M, enchantress F" power couple. Especially if they argue with each other about the superior method.

>Being a brainlet and not mixing both

/r9k/ is right and shitting on them only proves it

>"Magic is just science we don't understand yet"

Don't tell that to /tg/ or they'll wreck your shit

I really can't give an unbiased opinion on it. Growing up on Conan material just straight up turned me against magic with a fucking passion

As a part Native American I can confirm that is an accurate stereotype.

Holy shit I forgot about taht one

...

>tfw we'll never see the rest of Return to the House of Mummies
jdimsa

Source? That's a top-tier punishment.

Both.

Jesus

>Science or magic
This is a bit of a trick question, because if magic has any consistent properties and/or constraints/limits, it would become a (fictional) supernatural science.

/tg/ can roll a nat 1 and go fuck themselves, Magic is a science in my ongoing game, being studied by the Magi in their tower. Once it becomes a subject of study and teaching it becomes a science.

So, magic?

They absolutely are... but having a mental illness certainly doesn't help that any. It doesn't matter how pretty you are; if someone decides your BPD/severe autism/major depression/etc isn't worth their time, then that's that. You also have to get outta the house and clean yourself, something that not all people do. Not to put all the blame on them, obviously, but there's more to it than a lack of decency among many modern Western women.
Sage for off-topic.

Realtalk. Magic has always been religious in nature which is why religions were very heavily against it as a competing faith. So the question really is:

>Science or religion?

Science or magic doesn't really work because they aren't the entirely different world views of science or religion so you get people who say magic is just a misunderstood science.

>Bard
This would be a bit difficult to study, but I get the feeling that the energy source would eventually be artificially replicated.
>Cleric
It's properties could be studied, but it would probably be hard or even impossible to generate.
>Druid
This would probably be forcibly extracted pretty quickly.
>Sorcerer
Their DNA would be studied and then replicated.
>Warlock
The entities would be captured and their energy extracted.

It's Clarke's third law.

Science that applies magic to its system.
>The Soul is a very good fuel

Embracing Science for All Mankind
We are the greatest scientific minds of the world. We influence every aspect of human society. We protect the Earth from the aliens without and the deviants within. Through order, science and technology, our Conventions shape the course of the future and catalog the wonders of the cosmos. We are there whenever someone uses a tool. We create the advancements that protect and comfort humanity. We decide how tomorrow improves beyond today. If you are ready to shape the world and willing to sacrifice yourself for humanity, you can be one of us.

came here to post this bb

My man

Nah, Miracles flat-out break reality where magic still has to follow some kind of natural law.

Magic since science deals more with existentialism and whenever I think of that I have a high school tier existential crisis.
But now that I'm thinking about it,
is there any magic based fiction that deals with existentialism?

The Invisibles
Promethea
The Unwritten
Sandman
Lucifer

As a story, Magic is more fun.
In reality, Science since knowing magic it's a giant creepy mess that could easily blow up in your face.
With Science there's at least an out, most the time atleast, you need to get pretty high up there with science before you bargain yourself into a hell inescapable even in death, in Magic that could literally be step one.

>implying the two can't coexist

These folks have the right idea
