Just when I thought some properties were untouchable...

How badly are they gonna ruin it, lads?

What the fuck's a Gaumont?

>French animation studio I've never heard of
>Seems to make nothing but kids shows and animated sitcoms

I'll give it a 90% shot of being bad

I'm waiting for a preview

I just hope Stan doesn't get screwed

This pretty much

At least the creator is working with them, could be good.

They made Hannibal

>comic adaptation
>animated
>action based
>not Big 2
Crossing fingers

>The company has also produced television shows, including seven animated series: Highlander: The Animated Series, Space Goofs, The Magician, Dragon Flyz, F Is for Family, and Sky Dancers (the second and third are based on their respective toy lines), and the very popular Oggy and the Cockroaches. The company also began production in its American unit Gaumont International Television on two series: Hannibal and Hemlock Grove.

>Hannibal

This could work out well, if they get the right people on it. It's not a shitty company, they're also the ones behind The Fifth Element.

I just want Stan to be happy with it.

Stupid sexy Chizu

Honesty, this might be the best possible scenario for a UY tv-show.

>Stan is involved in some way
>French studio not effected by Murrican sensibilities
>James Wan's company

I mean, at least they won't shy away from the violence and mature themes, right?

Magician

>Sakai leveraging Usagi's appearance on 2K12 into a series of its own

Nice going, Stan! I hope it works out.

Would he be the one directly negotiating with them?
Or would someone negotiating for him on his behalf, like an agent?

I hope it's 2D though

And on the list of things I wanted to see happen but never believed WOULD happen...

Despite all the killings and little skull speechballoons, the comics aren't exactly drenched with on-panel blood, so hopefully they'll be able to keep that aspect.

I hope they also keep the historical accuracy and depth of research (regarding the traditions and social customs of feudal Japan - there's your 'educational value'!) and avoid making it too fantastical with weird monsters showing up every episode.

Looks like it will be CGI.

I can accept human Hikiji if and only if he’s Mads Mikkelsen.

This might explain the current 3 month hiatus.

Fucking hell, Usagi deserved this for so long. I only hope Stan has enough say in all this to keep the series good.

>CGI
Damn. Fingers crossed for good story and voice acting, then.

Just give me Christopher Lambert as Jei-San, and we're golden.

This so much.

Good Lord, I remember watching this as a kid. Felt so much like cheaper BTAS.

Please be good, please be good...

Hope they pour as much love into it as Nick guys.
Hopefully they'll even cast the same guy for Usagi.
Just make it TV-14 at least.

>animated Jei and Keiko is suddenly a possibility
>animated Sasuke is suddenly a possibility
>animated Kitsune hnnnnngggghh

I haven't been this hyped in years.

That TMNT 2012 3 parter with Usagi was pretty great so it being like that or Samurai Jack esque would be good

also

Just put it on Netflix so they don't have to tone anything down.

>my ronin tier
Chizu
>not my ronin tier
Tomoe
>can't find my wallet tier
Kitsune
>ronin, wtf r u doin' tier
Mariko

This user knows what's up; Fuck Mariko.

So, if this were to be, what would you like the show to be? Should it follow the comic storylines, or should it show new stories with flashbacks or whatever thrown in? I really hope they don't just follow a 'ninja-of-the-week' format but do some comic story arcs too.

I'd love a Dragon Bellows arc.

They should give it to an anime studio so it feels more authentic.

...

>Animated Jei keeping filthy heathens away from his innocent Keiko

Yes

Gaumont's a decent company which has shown respect for source material in the past. Could be good.

Comic stories, but adapted for the new medium, of course.

Though to be honest, Usagi can be pretty formulaic at times:
>bandits or yokai are threatening village
>Usagi comes along
>befriends the peasants
>kills bandits/yokai
>leaves

>mfw it ends up sucking

>Usagi leaves
>Jei comes in
FUCK TERU TERU BOZU.

Hey, user.

Noodles.

>there are people here who don't realize Tomoe is best girl
SAD

But user, the best girl is dead. You'd need a bridge to cross the river of tears cried after her.

headcanons are stupid and I hate people that go on about their's but personally
I think Usagi and Tomeo fucked at the end of The Mother of Mountains

They better keep the skull balloons

>tfw you bought a Usagi TMNT toy even though you don't care about TMNT and feel like you helped

It's complicated.

Thanks for that Kitsune reminder.
Kitsune fags are the worst. She's not even in the competition.

After Bridge of Tears there are only two real contenders.

Follow the comic right with story lines.

>Being this much of a weeb

...

...

Stan Sakai is involved, and he has said a few times he wouldn't go for a tv show if he didn't believe it would differ from his vision. I want to believe this will turn out well. I see no reason to worry quite yet. At worst it won't get any traction.

>Usagi Yojimbo will be getting a tv series
I've been waiting years for this.
Also which arc is the best arc
It better not be bridge

Grasscutter. All that fuss over a sword that gets hidden still gets to me.

Tomoe-sakai hyper sadist gold crazy sister

Why does Usagi have to suffer so much?

An honorable life is hella hard, man.

Stan grandson died it really affected his work

Inazuma had a hard life

How many bastard kids will Usagi have

None.

...

I mean Tomoe wins in Senso. Ninja cat just appears to die basically

Man, I hope we some day get a happier ending than Senso

Why does Stan have to suffer so much

He's been through way to much shit

"The way of the Samurai/Ninja is death"

Fine art is not always marketable.

She wins for all of a day.

Then Usagi dies, laughing at how pointless his secret with Jotaro has been.

...

I’m gonna pull, new tmnt is dope, up till 50 then krang and dimension x is good....past few fell off...

I hope senso really is just complete fantasy Usagi deserves a happy ending I wonder if Stan will actually give it to him though

Don’t forget Stan lost his wife too this all happened around the same time too

I'm just happy we got to see Chizu work for the good guys. Most main characters which did not appear in Senso were implied to have died during those ~10 years of time skip.

At least we have and ending if Stan never menages to write a "canon" one. A sad one, but it's an ending nonetheless. It also connects nicely into Space Usagi, so there's that.

I remember this show. I remember it existed.

Mariko is still the one who won the right to carry Usagi's child though.

Fortunately Stan got some of his happiness back, since he remarried a year later. She's an artist too - Julie is the one drawing all those chibi artworks at the back of the comic.

>Sergio Aragones will never be your best man

This series has really good artwork, please tell me it isn't degenerate furry fetish shit.

I don't even think there's porn of Usagi yojimbo.

This is good news.

>No porn of Usagi and Tomoe getting it on

I hope it is good. Usagi deserves it.

He's already got at least the one

Then it turns out that she lost in Space Usagi, which is apparently canon.

Grasscutter but Jei's backstory arc really got to me too.

>Season ends on bridge
>Not renewed

Dragon Bellow's Conspiracy is the ideal season one finale.

There is, but it's mostly him and Leonardo.

but, that's never gonna happen

...

I miss this meme.

Future Tomoe (who was a rabbit) died in the middle of Space Usagi's run. Mariko from Senso happened long after the events of the last SU issue and it was a complete surprise.

The actual animation is usually made by other studios (like Xilam).

>there was a bat girl. nobody is sure what that was about. she dead, man.
That chapter was very surprising. It isn't like Stan to introduce characters just to kill them immediately.
Unless he was pestered by mail about people wanting good bats, and this is his way to say stop.

Jei-san versus the green faced pedo Oni of Death Channel?

I'm not sure I like this. Animation doesn't let itself well to Sakai's style. Way too detailed. Not to mention the extremely hard to pull serious themes vs. cartoon animals contrast.

I'd go as far as saying that indie comic is the only good format for this.

Can't remember the second one. Who was her?

Also Kitsune went on record that she finds Usagi hot but it just wouldn't work. And got jealous when she saw Chizu kiss him.

Eh, i'd rather have an ending grounded in medieval Japan.

I don't think he gets that much fan mail. Hell, if Usagi wasn't sold in so many countries, he'd get even less. I believe Europe as a whole is selling a few times more copies than US and Canada combined. Stan is lucky that his rather niche work got noticed by publishers. Looking at first publication dates, it's all thanks to Grasscutter getting an Eisner and all the widespread critical acclaim that book got.

the french have pulled harder shit

>way too detailed.
youtube.com/watch?v=m7MNICBB8Tg

>the extremely hard to pull serious themes vs. cartoon animals
youtube.com/watch?v=GWcCYu8glNo

>Farthing Wood
Oh yeah, that was the shit.

I laughed

>who was she?
My memory fails me, but I think it was in Circles. I also forgot her name, but she was a princess of some kind, one who Usagi escorted when he was still a samurai. Usagi heard her name during some celebrations in a town he was passing through and had a flashback of them falling in love many years ago, despite not liking each other at first. They wanted to run away together, but she realized that'd make Usagi an outlaw. She married some important dude she didn't love but she was engaged to. After the flashback Usagi left before she appeared before the excited crowd, wondering if she'd even remember him. The last image of that story shows a female hand holding a flower, same kind Usagi gave her so many years ago.

>animated Sasuke is suddenly a possibility
Usagi's suffering will never end, will it?
